Thank you for the video my valve was leaking a service technician came to take alook .He is making it out to be a big job like cutting pipes when all you have to do is replace the rubber gasket and the face with a new motor

I checked our zone valve when the heat was not working. The lever at the bottom moves slightly but not to the full open position. For years it just stayed open when thermostat was turned on at all. Now it does not move more than 1/4 of the way to open and does not provide any flow. Does this sound like a seized motor or seized valve?
@stephensterbenz61186 күн бұрын
Explantory note from my last post: does it matter if the two yellow wires to the limit switch are reversed? Does it matter if the two red wires to the motor are reversed?
@stephensterbenz61186 күн бұрын
You did not discuss the polarity of the wires and whether it matters. Very disappointing. Everything else you discussed is already evident fron examination of the unit.

Mine is leaking the gasket was blown out the side it looks bent I tried to put back together still leeks should I try to get rebuild with top plate of new zone
@furnacetech258115 күн бұрын
As long as the valve body is in good shape, the rebuild kit should work. Make sure you get the right one. It’s important to make sure the gasket stays in the grove when you install the valve assembly if not, it will leak.

What’s the problem if the lever is just completely loose moving left to right
@furnacetech258119 күн бұрын
It could mean many things. If the lever is loose and the thermostat is calling, it means the valve is open. If the thermostat is not calling and the lever is loose, it could mean the valve is stuck open
@renedelgado278922 күн бұрын
Great video! Zone valve is opening. Once Thermostat is satisfied, it sends signal to turn off but, valve is not closing. Once I tap on the valve housing, it will close and shut off the boiler like it should. The power head lever is loose and has no tension right before tapping. What are the odds that this is a bad power head and not a bad valve?
@furnacetech258119 күн бұрын
You can check it out by removing the powerhead and try turning the valve by hand. If it moves freely then the power head is getting stuck. If the valve is hard to rotate, then it is the problem!

Thanks for the video. I'm curious what the expected lifetime of a zone valve has been in your experience. I've had one unit replaced by a local company three times within a fairly short amount of time: November 2021, January 2023, and now December 2024. I'm wondering if some other factor might be causing the failures. I've shared the concern with the short life experienced both today (December 2024) and the last time (January 2023). I don't think they charged me in 2023, but I'm not sure what to expect from today's replacement, and that the dang thing keeps having issues is beyond frustrating. I have a 3-zone system and I've had at least one of the others replaced over the years, but this is crazy.
@furnacetech258114 күн бұрын
Not sure! Could be many factors. If you use glycol or have hard water. It could affect the life of the valve and might not allow the power head to move freely. Could be so many factors. I would need to troubleshoot it to get a good idea of the issues!
@mjmiller7314 күн бұрын
@@furnacetech2581 I can accept that. Thanks for replying. For now, I've mentioned the concern to the owner. We've resolved to monitor going forward.

What model oil pressure gauge?
@dutchy57522 ай бұрын
I have an oil line coming into the pump from the oil filter and 1 line back from the pump to the oil filter where there is a nipple so I can bleed the line. Bleeding works yet I am not getting any fuel to the nozzle. So it seems the pump is working (because the bleeding is working) but the nozzle is not getting any fuel. I cleaned the lines from the pump to the nozzle. Only opened up the pump where the pump filter is sitting and it looked clean. Isn't that weird? Or is this something that could happen? thanks.

Nice 👍🏼👍🏼, what type of spray did you use to spray and clean the electrodes and other parts and what kind of red adhesive did you use in the door? Wish the guy I had work on my boiler last season would have done an outstanding job like you considering he charged me $225 to change the nozzle, filter and brush/vacuum the inside top of the chamber. Then because he didn’t vacuum the chamber a bunch of dirt came out throughout the winter coming from inside coming out around the floor. For that reason I’m doing do my own tune up this year. Got the supplies, just need an ash vacuum.

Thank you for your several videos on this topic. My system has been behaving poorly since we bought the house, but I left it alone because it mostly "worked". This fall the boiler wouldn't fire and the circulator pump would not run. After my first round of troubleshooting I found that two zone valves had been wired into the open position after being forced open. Those valve motors had stripped gears. Only the third zone had actually been working properly and it had been wired to a thermostat in a different zone. This one had a burned out end switch which was why the system would not fire up this fall. Consequently, the bedroom zones would get hellishly hot while the other areas of the house got very little heat. Anyway, thanks to your videos I've now replaced a dodgy switching relay and have one of the three zones working properly. I have the other two wired up, but because the valves themselves are stuck, I need to wait for two rebuild kits.

Awesome video. I’m gonna do this to my boiler. It’s dirty. I have those side covers under a door but they have been sealed with boiler cement ? But I can take off the chimney and remove the top cover like you did and get it from the top. But I can only spin mine to the side because there is a pipe going right through the center of it😂😂

Should the fan blade spin freely while the pump is still connected?
@furnacetech25814 ай бұрын
Yes, there should be little resistance or binding. Most burners can be checked by Turning off power and lifting the ignition transformer cover. Spin the fan blade and see if it spins freely. If not, you may have a bad blower or fuel pump. If you replaced the coupling between the fan and fuel pump, be sure to check if it’s the correct length. If it’s too long, it will bind and not spin free!
@nickotterstetter83434 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Had a child in June and while at the hospital our basement flooded. Had a furnace guy come out. He said the blower motor was still good but he couldn’t check the burner motor because my board fried and he didn’t have that style with him. I did buy a new board and a motor as the old one had froze up. Going to hook it back up tomorrow and give it a try

Do the F turbinator heads always come off the nozzle assembly so easily? Loosen one screw and give it a wiggle and a pull? Are they all held on by friction alone?

If I change the motherboard does it need programming ?
@bradc72548 ай бұрын
I have the same attachment foe my ash vac i use on my pellet stove except the bristles are a wire brush instead of plastic. Should work mint for doing my furnace. Isn't there a few other things like adjusting the fuel ratio and checking the co2 being released or something? And also ik you gotta use Chimney Sealant stuff, kinda like mortar around where the exhaust flue meets the actual chimney, also how frequently do i need to clean my actual chimney for my furnace? Idk if ive ever seen my plumber do that, he has however cleaned the exhaust flue that goes from the furnace to the chimney. And last question, also how do you adjust the oxygen ratio and air intake vent? Is there anything you even have to do there and if so how frequently?
@furnacetech25814 ай бұрын
Yes, there are many items to check when doing service and repairs. Mortar is perfect for connecting to chimneys for sure, just depends on the application or connections needed. It’s good practice to clean the chimney annually and inspect it for wear. Sometimes you may need to hire a chimney sweep company. Every burner is different when it comes to making air adjustments. Never adjust the air or fuel pressure without a combustion analyzer. Most adjustment locations are on the left or right sides of the burner. You will see makings with numbers which represent the current settings. You can loosen the set screws and slide the air bands or shutters. Make sure to tighten them after you make adjustments to get a good reading on your analyzer and don’t forget to make sure burner covers are in place during testing.

Thank you for watching and leaving your feedback! Most of our systems use only two wire setups. You can definitely use the common wire! I am sure there are many ways to mount a thermostat. This is just the way I did it for this project!
