I had high blood pressure after my first child. I didn’t have it while pregnant and thought I was out of the woods because I had given birth. A few days after giving birth my migraines started they made noise and light very unbearable. I had my veins in my arms and wrist bulging I had to go to the ER.

My blood pressure is usually 98/62 and now it’s at 128 and I’m 25 weeks pregnant. I keep having headaches and right side pain and blurry vision but they keep telling me it’s normal and I really don’t think it is me and my boyfriend are scared. I’m so happy you are okay and sharing your story

If you are taking labetelol it's useless or amlodipine both won't work now. You must go and see a good physician and take some ace inhibitor medicines. Also get your proteinuria checked.

Thank you for sharing your story! I’ve been through similar with my last baby, it was very traumatic. My doctor never caught my symptoms and never diagnosed me!! I Had the preeclampsia followed by placenta abruption at 34 weeks- ended up in emergency C-section that saved my baby’s life and my own

I had postpartum preeclampsia TWICE after the birth of my daughter in 2022. I was induced at 37 weeks due to gestational hypertension. My entire pregnancy I felt like I was being told not to worry about concerning things, and that I had to worry about things that in the end, didn't matter. I got pre-eclampsia the night my daughter was born. Then while on the magnesium drip, I dislodged a kidney stone. Horrific pain, about the same level of pain as birth. I have chronic kidney stones that are always inside me. I had to beg them to test my urine. The second time i got pre-eclampsia I think I only survived because I was already in the hospital. My daughter was born with severely low blood sugar and jaundice and needed to stay in the hospital. The hospital said I was discharged but she had to stay. I would not leave that hospital without my daughter. They said I could "board there". But they would not give me my meds or manage them. There was some kind of mix up and I didn't get my blood pressure medication for over 12 hours. I'm a very anxious person and have been diagnosed with PTSD for years. I feel my initial symptoms were dismissed as mental health issues. Finally my partner just told the nurses that I couldn't breathe and I was wheeled down to the ER immediately. My blood pressure 201/110. I feel so bad for this family, this woman's death was preventable. May she rest in power.

This is exactly what happened to me. 130/90 was " normal" despite me telling them that was really high for me. I kept trying to tell people I was worried about it and then all of the sudden on his birth day I need a c section immediately... he was 5 lbs 1oz and likely wasn't gaining weight because of this issue.

I had preeclampsia with both of my kids. I was 31 and 33 years old. I had no symptoms of anything. I went in at 22 weeks and from my doctors visit I went to the hospital immediately with my first pregnancy. I was obvious young and my ignorance was bliss because I never really understood the danger I was in. My doctors never really said how risky things are from that diagnosis moving forward. Both babies premature. My daughter was very low birth rate and she is now 23. She has high blood pressure. We discovered this while she was in nursing school. It has something to do with tension in the body. It won’t relax on its own and keeps bp high. With my second child, I hemorrhages about 8 hours after delivery. It was awful. Softball size clots. I survived. Thank you Jesus.

I am wondering if people who have mothers who had severe preeclampsia would fall into a high risk population category even if they have none of the high risk factors you describe.
@PreeclampsiaFoundation

Yes - a family history of preeclampsia (especially a mother or sister) puts a patient at higher risk of developing preeclampsia herself. Those patients should speak with their healthcare providers prior to or in the early parts of pregnancy to discuss whether aspirin therapy might be advised given their family history.

I had preeclampsia with the last three pregnancies of my five kids with the last one being severe. I had my youngest who is now 21 months old at the age of 44 and she is a rainbow baby. She was born at exactly 34 weeks. The last month or two in the pregnancy i started having floaters in my vision. i was on two different blood pressure medications (labetalol and nifedipine) which had to keep being adjusted throughout the pregnancy to control my pressure. the day before i had her, i felt weak, headachy, and noticed my baby wasnt moving as much so i went to the emergency room and was admitted right away. my blood pressure was through the roof. 200 ish/115. Immediately i was given more blood pressure meds, iv fluids, magnesium sulfate and they wrapped these things around both my lower legs that inflate and deflate to prevent blood clots, After my blood pressure came down to 160 i was transferred by ambulance to the hospital out of town i was to deliver at. I was monitored the rest of that day and was told the next day that my baby would have to be born by csection (csection number 5). so the next day came and i was to have my baby supposedly at 2 pm but they delayed me because they had other csections that were more emergent than mine since i was somewhat stable. I ended up having her at 6:10 pm and she spent 3.5 weeks in the Nicu. I was nervous giving birth alone but i had a good support team of doctors and nurses. they numbed me up so good and i didnt feel a thing unlike my last two csections. i continued to stay on magnesium sulfate for 24 hours after the delivery and i was on pitocin at the same time as well. Preeclampsia is no joke and many mothers die from it, I could have had a stroke and died myself and i thank God me and my baby made it. #Preeclampsia survivor #Severe preeclampsia

Thank you for sharing your story. Last July I gave birth to my son at 37 weeks, he was strong and healthy. As for me, I developed HELLP syndrome and ended up on a ventilator, the drs didn’t think I would make it. After 4 weeks I’m ICU I was able to come home to my baby boy. But the birth trauma is so real.

i was borderline preeclampsic, i gave birth at home within an hour of labor beginning, went to the hospital to get my uterus cleared out of clots, totally ready to go home, but thye took my blood pressure as it had been steadily at 160/100, so they decided to do 24 hour magnesium, which im thankful for doctors and this medical intervention, but they never ven gave my body a chance to recover on it's own.

I can relate. I told my OB my rapid weight gain didn't make sense because I was constantly vomiting and unable to eat. I told my OB that my rheumatologist collected my blood work and my platelets were very low and my OB just said that's normal. I was extremely tired and very swollen and my vision was blurry and the OB said it's because of my "advanced age" and my "excess weight." My OB never mentioned my age, weight, IVF conception, and autoimmune disease put me at a greater risk for pre-eclampsia. I ended up in the ER from a headache so massive that I couldn't function and got diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia. Nobody mentioned HELLP syndrome but the lab results suggested I had it too. I was stuck in the hospital for many days after delivery.
