There is a little bit of information that relates to the Callarii elves who inhabit the eastern portion of Radlebb Woods in the Dungeon Masters Survival Kit which came out after Kingdom of Adventure (AD&D 2nd ed) - on one of the magic item cards it tells the story of elven Clanmaster Adiar Gildenhelm and his son Kirias who ran off with the human forester of Radlebb Woods Eris Felsann. In the 1992 computer game, Order of he Griffon, northeast of Radlebb Keep there is a Wolf Den lead by the dire wolf Collum who is in league with the Iron Ring, a rival wolf pack is led by Collum.

You have several posts on your channel about the desire not to use an "oracle"? What do you feel changed your mind, between your early discussions on playing solo OD&D and where you are today playing offline and using Mythic DM emulator? I thought your other content did a good job at making decisions without too much metagaming and without using a 3rd party oracle book.

I regret that a series is started and then stopped for long periods of time. Unfortunately, this has happened several times already. However, I do not want to blame you for it and I can imagine all the work behind it. I hope you can return to the channel as energetic as ever. Honestly I think you reached the highest peak in terms of video structure in "OD&D Emergent Solo Campaign - Session 1", I loved the dungeon crawling with the icon moving in the hand drawn rooms, the fog of war and you describing party actions for each turn, hope I can see something similar in the future. I appreciate your work so much, thank you for the content!

I've enjoy your content, but I'm sorry to see you move away from playing live. I don't want to downplay the work you put into what you're doing now, but wanted to give you constructive criticism as a subscriber. You can't please everyone though, right?! I also grapple with the use of an oracle for solo play. I completely agree you can't play the TSR editions of D&D solo (maybe any edition) without some "assistance" from house rule charts or an oracle, as some folks call it. I see it somewhat differently than you explain in this update though, and I felt it more like generation of a story narrative instead of playing D&D. Too much interpreting the oracle rather than using reaction rolls and a simplified "rumors and quests" table you create as a solo DM that can point to what inherent solo play content already exists from the core rules and Gygax articles/AD&D DMG. Again, love what you're doing. Just trying to engage in a constructive way. Thanks.

This series is really, really good, and I download them ALL and saved them to enjoy on the big TV in the lounge. Great for getting in the right mood for my own games and campaigns. You have studied hard and have your facts and `style` of play spot on. I picked up my first copy of the rules wayyyy back in 1974 and have used them ever since... and still play in the spirit and style of the original pioneering days of the hobby (especialy when playing solo - which has been a deep life long passion of mine). Marvelous stuff. Thank you for all your hard work.

I'm playing 'full metal plate mail' right now with a friend. It's an OSR with the (almost) same rules as OD&D but in a neat little package. I absolutely love it! We are at our 20th hours of the campain and the adventurer has just set out in the wild to explore. Very deadly for people who are not prepared. Anyhow, many thanks for these videos. Very high quality.

_ Hello _ * I´m go reformulate my comments, to make them more understandable.* - I have seen all your videos of mystarra campaigns - I've read your posts about handle or cope with the solo gaming experience, and I agree with more of these things. * But I found some points to share * - I share the concept that reading the entire history of a module can erase the magic of discovering and interacting with it in parts. - But... Not happen the same thing when we use a city sandbox or wilder hexcrawling scenario, and want use it as a continuity, or later?. We normally have tracked and recorded what happened, what was found, all deaths, and how it has changed or not. The same idea of re-populate one floor in dungeons, or needing generate the outcome of their possible changes, carries certain grade of meta-info. * Not all Meta-info knowing from GM hat is bad or unnecessary.* - The meta-info emergent or thrown at table when explore, investigate or interact with something, continue having aspects that can open the difference of how is perceived for the characters and how can interact acording with that. - And this is the same, when Monster, Npcs, Henchmens, and Companions be used in the same manner as Characters, when the group of Characters is split, Or when have things happen simultaneously in diferent places or floors in a dungeon or building interior. - This Still offers little difference between characters selecting the most optimal action, or acting from what is perceived - (But possibly it can have or create some mechanic for the difference ). * Same problem wiht some Tags, Mannerisms, Passive aspect, or Personality traits * Sometimes they add meaning_color ( Reveal reason or event, even if they don´t prevent it). Other times they can add detail, when a decision needs to be made to perform an action or interact with something. But.... When resolve things directly in passive manner, it can take weight away from decisive actions and interactions. * About of my old comments of the central mechanic for cheqs * I don't know if you know how Rolemaster resolves actions, but it all comes down to : Roll the dice, add your applicable competency, add penalties to the action, and compare it to a table of degrees of success. The success ranges in that table are always the same. It is a fixed table. It´s only necessary to look at that table to see how many success ranges it has categorized. Rolemaster make this using one 1d100 open-dice roll, But not is necessary or required for that. All third edition of D&D is created around this concept. But... use the dice roll for determine if you have success or not, not is the interesting thing. Power By Apocalypse have the same problem, their ranges of resolution always be the same, and later neded deciding what happen. The interesting thing here, is determine the applicable competency and apply the penalties to action, and later use the dice roll distribution for obtain the effects or what things happen, but at different ranges dependent of situations. And it can be use for multiple things like : - Lists or tipes of Encounters. - Distants and conditions in travels. - Possibility of be lost or returned to know rute or place in hexcrawls. - Possibility of enter or return from one plane to another, or time to make it. - Posibility of time pass in some situations. - Effectiveness or Durability of natural or created signals of terrain navigation. - Effectiveness of Hit in melee. - Effectiveness of Missile Weapons Attack. - Posibily of use a coberture. - Effectiveness of use a coberture. - Effectiveness of Structural resistance to damage in Cobertures or Objects. - Effectiveness of Save Rules. - Effectiveness in Moral Rules. - Possibility of recibe, acquire or be affected for some condition (Mind,Soul and Body), or theirs durations. - Effectiveness or Possibility in Reaction of Henchmens, Npcs, Monster, Magic. - Effectiveness or Amount of supplies expended or necessary. - Effectiveness or duration of contra spells or similar sobrenatural effects. The Big Problems Are.... 1 - If you use one dice roll with linear distribution, All ranges have same % in their numbers, and other types of dice rolls, not have sufficient difference for certain number of options to happen. 2 - Can require create various tables or mini-tables, only for reference, for resolution different things in the escenarios . And normally be with fixed ranges, dependant of number of options wanted cover. 3 - The 1d100 is the unic tipe of dice roll with the distribution of 1% in any of their numbers, others types of dice rolls, have jumpings of percentages. But for certain resolutions the ranges may be too wide to cover a small number of options. 4 -This form invert the use of the dice roll. First is need determine the applicable competency and apply the penalties to action to them, and this give some idea of one of the options can be most closely to happen, and the range of the rest. It is similar to using Mythic for what is expected in a yes-no question, but using the action resolution options as odds. I dont know if this can serve for determination how categorize the mechanic of resolutions, but can help.

_ Another thing for share and related with game mechanics.... _ You can select and associate one diferent value to all numbers of the distribution of one type of dice roll . If you use it in direct manner, for all numbers of one range = They continue act as the same range, of original distribution of this dice roll. But if you use this value for the numbers in individually manner, and multiply the dice result for the value asociated to them, the final value is diferent. _ Example 1 _ If you trait all numbers of one range at the same final value = 2, 4, 6, and 8, You can have 4 effects with same original ranges of 25% of the D20 . Or this 4 effects in diferent ranges in this way : First effect hapen with = 1,2,3 = 15% of original D20, whit one final value of 2. Second effect hapen with = 4,5,6,7,8,9 = 30% of original D20, with one final value of 4. Third effect hapen with = 10,11,12,13 = 20% of original D20, with one final value of 6. Four effect hapen with = 14,15,16,17,18,19,20 = 35% of original D20, with one final value of 8. This not change the original dice distribution of 1d20. _ Example 2 _ - But if you asociate the value of 3 to all obtained numbers in one range and use it individually : The dice roll acts diferent . This manner give you one type of dice roll that work in increments of the same value, but using the original distribution of the dice roll selected . _ In other words_ The total distribution range in 1d20 = All number have 5% chance. In this example, you have increments of 3 for any number of the D20 and any increment have 5% more in the distribution. First effect happen with = 1, 2 ,3 in the dice = Same 15% of orginal range distributed in 1D20 When multlipy, in this case you obtain as results 3, 6, or 9, but any of the numbers have the same 5% individual of 1D20 . And with same problem of needed obtein 3 in dice, for have the final result of 9 . Second effect happen with = 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 in dice = 30% of original range distributed in 1D20 . You obtain as final results 12, 15, 21, 24, and 27, but any of the numbers have the same 5% individual of 1D20 . And with same problem of needed obtein 9 in dice, for be the final result of 27 . All this is not a big deal, but can serv you for concret litle game mechanics like : ( Encounters/Suplies/Travels or Distants/Reaction of Henchmens/Moral Rules/Save Rules/Condition Rules/Money/ Distribution of XP )

_ Hello . _ - I have seen all your videos and the mystarra campaigns. - And I've read your posts on how to handle/cope with the solo gaming experience, and I still agree with more of these things. - But I found 3 points that I wanted to share. ************************************************* * POINT 1 = MOVE STORY FROM PLAYER HAT * ************************************************* - When all the Motives, Senses, Reasons or Conditions of the story context with which players interact are uniquely defined by the resolution of their actions, it creates a very Rigid/Fixed/Corseted or Concrete gameplay or narrative. - Not all Metainfo from GM hat is bad or unnecessary. **************************************** * ADVANTAGE = SAME AS POINT 3 ... * **************************************** * DISADVANTAJES * ********************* - What part of the "That is" do the characters see or don't see, or happen or don't happen, because of their actions? - What part of the "Isn't that" do the characters see or don't see, or what happens or doesn't happen because of their actions? - What part of the context of the story and situations is perceived or not by the characters? - How much of what is true or false in the appearances of situations is perceved by the characters? ************************************************************************************ * POINT 2 = TAGS/MANNERISMS/PASSIVE ASPECTS OR PERSONALITY TRAITS * ************************************************************************************ * ADVANTAGES * ****************** - Sometimes they add meaning/color, when premeditated or passive actions reveal reason or event, even if they do not prevent it. - Example = Being poisoned and finding out how, but you haven't prevented it, and you need to cure it anyway. - Other times they can add detail, when a decision needs to be made to perform an action or interact with something. ********************************************* * DISADVANTAGES = SAME AS POINT 1 ... * ********************************************* - It can take weight away from decisive actions and interactions. - Or they can eliminate them, when they are solved directly passively and without the need to check how it is solved. ******************************************** * POINT 3 = MOVE STORY FROM GM HAT * ******************************************** * ADVANTAGE * **************** - Throw or create Meta information, but you can still check the characters' perception of the story content or context . ************* * EXAMPLE * ************* - Character in Pendragon, uses administration skill to check if the village is receiving supplies and fails the check, or the initial situation may appear that this is true and they do not receive them... - But later in the first house or building enter, it becomes clear that this is not the case. - Or vice versa, the character can eliminate that doubt, and subsequent scenes begin to show that he is wrong, and the truth is that the village did not receive the provisions, but you discover them in pieces.... ******************** * DISADVANTAGE * ******************** - The Evolution of the Content, its Connections or the story itself, may force characters to repeat actions or procedures, to check if their perception or understanding or feeling of smething has changed. - Or can force used as continuous signs of a motive, reason or context, in the history. Or as separate parts of something else. All this point 3, is closely related to the necessary use of telegraphing danger, on the OSR gameplay style. And it is proof that not all meta-information is unnecessary or bad . ********************* * LAST MENTIONS * ********************* - With this, I am not saying that it is necessary change your way or style of solving solo gameplay. - I'm also not saying that we should only use GM hat for the entire gameplay, or style of it in solo play. - They are just points that can help you, or serve you to find a better way to integrate mechanics and meaning of the base structures of scenarios or narrative genres, in our solo game experiences. - I hope serve you or give you something to think about.
