Why is glucose called D or L glucose
@Leah4sciMCAT11 сағат бұрын
The D and L have to do with stereochemistry of the molecule
@timecode372 күн бұрын
Could it be that the first skeletal formula for D-Glucose isn't quite right? My Fischer projection ends up with all the hydroxyl groups on the right side. If you compare it with the picture on wikipedia, the skeletal structures for D-Glucose don't match. When doing the projection starting from the skeletal structure from wikipedia, the fischer projection matches the one in the video. Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

You're very welcome! I've worked with many premed students of every intelligence level. I have smart students who don't make it because they stop trying and 'less than smart' students who are so determined and refuse to give up, they wind up doing EVEN BETTER in med school because they know HOW to work hard and reach their goals. They make the best doctors If medicine is your dream, really consider if you're willing to do whatever it takes, then go for it

how do you know where to place the head? is it based off priority? because for example at 4:24 you placed the head on top where you can see bromine coming towards you to your left eye but at 7:23 you placed the head at the bottom. You said you can place the head anywhere but it changes the way you view the molocule. So question, how do you know where to place the head?

thanks a lot for the video but I have question; suppose zn loses 2 electron and becomes zn++ right but it would have been easier to remember like zn loses 2 electrons and becomes zn-- (losing relates to negative)
@Leah4sciMCAT11 сағат бұрын
You have to look at the ionization energy, some atoms will easily lose one electron, some will lose move than 1 with relative ease while others will never let the second one go. Zn however will NOT gain electrons to form a negative

I understood the left eye right eye method.but in 1:48 ,how we know the exact direction we should keep our eye? I drew the fischer projection from keeping eyes from up like 5:37 So the structure got different than what you got.in this sturcture, u kept the eye from downwards.how we know the exact position that should keep the eye.Is there any trick?

If you ran the galvanic cell to depletion, and then evaporated off the solution, would you be left with just zinc sulphate?
@Leah4sciMCAT26 күн бұрын
In the anode, yes. But you might find a mixture of salts that also include a minority of sodium and nitrate ions from the salt bridge that migrated to help neutralize the cells.

10:40 is the CH20H equatorial? also in CH2OH is the H/OH there considered if asking how many H/OH are present
@Leah4sciMCAT26 күн бұрын
Yes, the CH2OH is equatorial in that drawing. You would definitely count that as an alcohol group in the structure.

Hello ma’am a regular viewer here. Can you please tell me position of dash H like how you decide where to put it. Im really really confused please help me
@Leah4sciMCAT26 күн бұрын
In this video, we were drawing Fischer projections when given the 3D sawhorse drawing. In other words, the dash H was given to us in the question and not something we were asked to draw. If you have a more specific question, feel free to reach out to me through my website at Leah4sci.com/contact and provide the video and time stamp that you're needing help with.
