You don't know a f*cking thing. I'll tell you why-- 1) The story actually begins with Cloud and Tifa-- These two are from Nibelheim. 2) They made a pact on the watertower and made an unbreakable and irreplaceable promise to each other. 3) In Midgar... Cloud and Aerith have nothing in common. They have been comrades for 16 days. Cloud and Tifa have been childhood friends for SEVEN YEARS! 4) Cloud is the one and only character who have kissed Tifa and nobody else. In conclusion, Aerith is killed by Sephiroth. Meanwhile... Cloud is on the verge of having the final stage of mako poisoning as well as the Jenova cells degrading him. Who's gonna save Cloud. Nobody... except for his girlfriend Tifa. Just you wait until Cloud & Tifa get swallowed into the lifestream while she saves him and restore his lost memories that were stolen from Hojo (Shinra) and Sephiroth.

The way I see it is that Cloud has love for Aerith, but Cloud is IN love with Tifa. You can have love for people like your friends without it being romantic. I don't see anything inherently romantic with the way Cloud interacts with Aerith (if anything I thought he was a little cold to her throughout the entire game. Like I'm Cloti until I die but I was even like DAMN that's a little mean Cloud) but Aerith (love her to bits) has some boundary issues that I think are from her not knowing what happened to Zack and trying to feel that love again with someone similar to him.

@@TeHNyboR The problem is that Cloud ONLY loves Tifa. He likes Aerith... but only as COMRADES. Furthermore, he had recalled that his deceased friend Zack loves Aerith.

@@TeHNyboR I think Aerith’s boundary issues are her being very confident and extroverted (while Tifa is more shy, a FASCINATING inversion of what we normally expect the magic user/chosen one/princess to be vs the strong fighter who isn’t as shy in her clothing choices and is a bartender). I think for me, aside from all the feels especially when she’s in danger and he must cry out her name, one BIG reason why I think he has at least SOME attraction to her/possibly toyed with the idea of being with her (though clearly desiring Tifa a lot more) was when she told him “you can’t fall in love with me” and he said “shouldn’t I get a say?” We COULD say Cloud is just being defiant and doesn’t like being told what to do, but I think it spoke volumes. With others like Jesse, Cloud isn’t just “cold” (which is his usual demeanor anyway. He’s like this to most people who aren’t his mom, Tifa, or Sephy), he rejected her HARD. Every time Aerith was insisting on dates and was showing interest, he would say things like “I’m not the romantic type” (which doesn’t always mean the person doesn’t WANT love/romance, but can mean they just don’t know HOW to express that kind of thing). He also just went with her, willingly. Did he seem to enjoy it a lot? No. This could’ve just be played for laughs by the writers. Aerith was definitely getting to Cloud on a deep emotional level and was beginning to thaw some of that frost: the high five, him letting her rejoin him two seconds after her mom asked him to leave her alone forever, etc. With Tifa, yes, it is clear the interest is there and is VERY strong, and if both girls were around I TRULY believe he would have chosen Tifa, I think there’s SOME romantic feeling for Aerith. Possibly not even physical. There is a such thing as romantic attraction with little to no physical attraction. But then again… he was struck by Aerith’s beauty if she gets the red dress AND if they both wear the same vibe for beach wear (potentially along with Tifa, but still). The writers and some of the voice actors have said that the intent was for US to decide who Cloud would love through our choices. So, I’m letting the Clerith shippers have their space. I’ll always choose Tifa.
