Marquette had the lead briefly in this game, but Maurice Lucas and the boys just couldn't overcome David Thompson, Tom Burleson and the Pack. Fortunately, Freshmen Bo Ellis and Bill Neary were around to win it all in '77.

Not the golden age IMO, yes it was the era when the NFL gained a lot of popularity but the golden era was the definitely the 80’s-early 2000’s (again this is just my opinion)

In books I have read about John Unitas, he is quoted as saying that Mackey had washboard hands.

Somebody here explain to me why Stanley Morgan isn't in the HoF? He averaged 20 yards a reception in his career!

When he retired, he was top 25 in NFL passing tds. Rushed for as many tds as Randall Cunningham. 75 and 60 record. My favorite from that era

Not the most talented QB, but he got everything he could out of what he had.

There is literally only one QB who is the most talented QB. But remember, a pitchout from the pro set in the 1970s is a running play, whereas if you’re doing the same exact thing from the shotgun in the 1980s, it now counts as a pass completion, so you now get to use a ton of running-plays-which-count-as-easy-passes, to pad your stats with. People might have a much different perspective if passes which were caught behind the line of scrimmage were counted as runs as instead of as pass completions. 🤔

the 70's/80's were the greatest era's IMHO... slight rule changes that everyone adjusted to w/ little fanfare... NOW, they change the whole game every few yrs w/ dumb rule changes --especially where it makes offensive football EASY.

At least the Irish kept up the home and home yearly. The eastern bluebloods were wussies. Kentucky refused to play Indiana, Notre dame, purdue in mid 70s with each team hosting the 4 team 2 game event. They wouldn't play Louisville home and home. Only in Lexington.

I’m a Raider fan, but I always respect to Mr. Bud Grant. He is the most disciplined coach I’ve ever known. I also surprised that he’s a one time Laker when he played with the great George Mikan and he won the championship with him in 1950. Btw I’m a Laker fan as well. RIP Mr. Bud Grant🙏🙏🙏

I've never been a Vikings fan. But I've became a fan of Bud Grant. He seemed like he was an outstanding human being and had a great perspective on life. Probably a factor in helping him live to an age of 95. He found ways to spend time with his family and other hobbies even with the demands of being an NFL coach. Oh and BTW, he was a heck of a coach!

Marchetti Battle of The Bulge, Donovan Iwo. To them football was a candy ass game to take their frustrations out. Today's players wouldn't make a pimple on their asses. They were the REAL Colts, not the inbred sissy's in the cornfield.
