you got the bus number wrong, this is the route for the 59a, the 59 takes a different route into Royston, it goes up Station Road from Bleakly Lane before turning left onto Midland Road, the route you took was from Bleakly Lane onto Summer Lane before turning left onto the High Street before moving onto Midland Road

As the bus goes through Dundle, I noticed a very unusual thing. The road obviously gets quite narrow, making it not particularly safe for two vehicles to pass (especially if one is a double decker bus) but the idea of having a traffic light either side and a line for the traffic to wait is a very sensible approach. I have saw this once or twice, as I say it's a sensible and safe measure and is useful when you have old market towns like this.

I have noticed a significant difference in the style of driving between bus drivers in the Southern counties of England and most of them in the rest of the UK and that is your bus drivers down South seem to be much more aggressive and in a rush. If a traffic light is in the process of changing the driver from South England is much more willing to keep on going rather than taking the safer option to stop. I don't really care what their excuses or reasons are, it's quite frankly a very selfish and dangerous attitude and they don't really deserve to remain in their job.

And to think it extended from Norwich to Great Yarmouth - Gorleston then Lowestoft another 2hours making a full trip 5.2hours when it was route X1 arguably the longest bus route in England - I used to be a driver for this route and FirstBus Norwich even with the split of the route Peterborough - Wisbech - Kings Lynn - Swaffham - Dereham then Norwich is still over 3hours.

Can't really decide if the young woman with the loud voice is Australian or American. Certainly the young men who are with her sound much more local, Southern England but definitely not London. They sound like they are really quite relaxed and enjoying themselves but a again could do with just turning the volume down a wee bit. I know that some people would obviously say that you shouldn't really listen into other people's conversations but like most situations I think that is a two-way street and I would argue that when people talk as loud then they make it very challenging not to listen. They have a responsibility to themselves and to everyone else who is using the bus or train to be more aware of their level of noise. This is one aspect where I definitely think that we miss a bus conductor. Because the train guard would just say to them quite politely to turn the volume down.
@busouting
@busouting 10 күн бұрын
I think the young woman was an American. I noticed you get more chatter on buses in summer, winter time people tend to be quiet. It's hard not to listen to conversations when people are loud.
@neilburns8869
@neilburns8869 10 күн бұрын
@@busouting yes, exactly but the good thing was it was clear that they were no real threat to anyone and they were obviously in good spirits which is nice to see. However my experience with Americans is once they get started in a situation like that they don't really know when to stop talking. During the winter months people can seem a wee bit subdued due to lack of sunlight, bad weather,, seasonal illness or simply SADS where some people just get a wee bit down due to the different seasons. But obviously it's a bright Sunny afternoon and the trees are looking beautiful.
