Great looking clock. I think i am going to give it a try. I will try a Minnesota state shape as the top. I like your idea of putting a dado through the bottom piece and adding contrasting wood on the outside to fill back in. Should look good. Thanks

I don't think this sled is a Flexible Flyer. It looks like an off brand. Maybe a " Champion". I'm guessing 1960s. Most of these sleds used ash as the wood. It turned out nice. I restored a sled from the 1940s. I was lucky. The ash was still in good enough condition to refinish it.

Can you explain how you put the 2 curved relief cuts forwards the bottom? I don’t believe you mentioned them but I can clearly see them in your flag
@oldeshed2 ай бұрын
Hi, I freehand them with a pencil to get the look I want, then carefully cut with a grinder. Then hand sand. It mimics folds in the flag. Thanks for watching.

At 7:45 you say, "from this mark". I can't see what mark you're talking about. It's hard to see those lines in that light, or the marks.
@oldeshed3 ай бұрын
My finger is right on the mark I'm referring to. Later in the video I darken up the lines. That should help. The measurements are available on my website. There's a link in the description. Thanks

Great job, you really did not have much to start with. One question. In most of Allen's flexible flyers there is one more cross piece in the front of the sled that the three long slats attach to. The three long slats do not attach to the front cross member, They float above it. ( The airline series made in the 30's did not have the third member and the bed did connect to all cross braces. ) That is what allowed the frame to flex. Hence the name flexible flyer. (recently rebuilt one myself).

What was starting thickness of the boards you did and what did you end up planing them down to? Any change of heart wishing you made them or started with a different thickness? Love your design. Trying to build a few wedding gifts for friends with some old growth redwood i got from a free deck tear out. Just Cornhole boards, mini bar, cribbage and other small games.
@oldeshed4 ай бұрын
It depends what I have in stock on the rack. I put the colors and thicknesses together and glue them up. Whatever thickness I end up with when I plane them down is pretty much it. The base needs to be thick enough to allow for the depth of the hole for the cards and pegs. Thanks for the nice compliment and for watching my videos.

So the 2.5” mark is 39”from the top of the board ?
@oldeshed7 ай бұрын
It's important to clarify that the 2.5" doesn't come in from just anywhere at the top of the board. More specifically, the measurement from the 4" mark comes down 39" to the edge of the board. From that point at the edge of the workpiece, come in 2.5". The next line comes from the 5" mark to the 2.5" mark. Hope that helps.

It’s the best video in my opinion on this wooden flag.! I find most people on a KZbin channel lie about a lot of things and hide a lot of things just to get views. I find that honest and you have integrity and I appreciate that. Thank you for your videos.! you do amazing work!

Setting the fence 60 degrees to the edge of the sled is only applicable if you are 100% positive your sled edge is perfectly parallel to your blade. You're better off referencing it off of the blade itself, or at the very least the cut line. But I like the design.
