can the kayak be flipped over by the fish pulling away?
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 18 күн бұрын
Not by that fish. He was 23 inches. But a huge 40 pound fish and the rod swag out over the side, possibly. They will usually pull you around. I've never been concerned with a fish flipping me

Bizarre system, all the force transmitted by the feet to the boat will be held by the rudder screw on the back of the kayak… it won’t last for long time. Better use a pedal system, also biomechanics of paddling is incorrect when one leg is more extended than the other… Is true that sit on tops like these boats are not technically demanding but in my greenland kayak or in competition boats it will simply be totally unusable
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 2 ай бұрын
This is a rudder versus a drive. It's for steering not propulsion. No peddling or paddling is done with your legs. The pedals are used to keep the rudder oriented at the needed angle to steer the kayak.

@@TexasCoastSportsman The function is the same, I have had many kayaks on my sport life: unless your technique is incorrect, when paddling one transmit the force of the arms to the boat via the feet and some friction force between the buttocks to the sit. This pressure will transmit also from your cables to the rudder, because you had disconnected the blocking mechanism of the foot rest. In the well mounted systems, the rear foot is transmitting force against a fixed point, and the front foot is used freely to stir the kayak
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 2 ай бұрын
You are correct that force is lost or poorly transferred due to the "lock" of the feet. I have experienced very high wind situations where I had to hold my legs at a less desirable angel to maintain a straight course. Yes, I was losing power due to my posture but in my opinion it was less than I would have lost making corrective strokes. I spend the majority of my time on the water with a fishing pole in my hand versus the paddle. For me, the ability to steer with my feet exceeds any power loss in my stroke.

You tie a rope to yours or just stake through the anchor trolley?
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 5 ай бұрын
Mine attaches to the anchor trolley with a roughly 10ft piece of Paracord. It allows you to position your kayak better in heavy tide or wind.

I have this same one, I just realized, it swivels...the wind will just move the skeg side to side right...not the way you rigged it but still, the bracket and the skeg are 2 separate pieces, im using this on my back up lifetime kayak and the wind pushes me across the water like nothing so I got this skeg.

Bet you would have been fine without that inner tubing, and the cables. I use some small diameter rope (about the same size as parachord, but non-stretch) and it doesn't rub through anything, as the actual pressure on the rudder is super light. Get or make a sail rig and you will be amazed at how far you can go without ever paddling. Mine is a folbot and not sure of the sail rig, but it has little inflatable armas/pontoons on round aluminum tube, and a dagger board on one side only. Sails awesome! You can be somewhere in 10 minutes that would take you an hour to paddle to.
