Wow. Thank you! I was looking at a $300 solution online when I came across this video. I realized that I have 3 of these eight footers behind my shed. Took one into my garage and found that it fits in the transom handles. $0.00 spent. Rod is now stowed down the port side of my Alaskan. I will try it out this week.

AWESOME video! First of your's I've seen. I've been searching rods to do the same, stumbled across your video. I made it to 5:48, and jumped on the Walmart site. Out of 9 area stores, only one showed any inventory, so I rushed over. The associates couldn't find them, told me the inventory was wrong, goodbye, thank you, have a nice day. I asked about a clearance section, walked over, found 4 of them, and snatched them up. They are horribly faded, but seem solid. Liked and subbed, just because of this one video!

Howdy TCS. Just found your channel and subscribed. Built identical stick for my yak for $16 in 2018. It's a great cheap option, but not good for all situations. Results vary depending on bottom structure. Firm sand or rock is a no go. I mostly fish soft mud/sand mix. This garden stake works fine in certain situations, but tends to pull out of soft bottom in windy conditions and water +3' deep. Good job on the DIY vid.

Thanks for the sub! I keep telling myself I need a throw anchor for hard sand and shell bottom, but then I chase the reds up into the marsh and it doesn't matter any more. I've had a time or 2 when it wouldn't hold but most those cases the tide was dumping water like a ragging river. I've harpooned my into over 6' deep water to stick in the bottom and had it hold me. That's a crazy feeling throwing your stake like a spear and hoping the para-cord holds so it's not the last time you see it.

Call mine an anchor pole, but since my time on the water is done in the southeastern US I made sure to add a steel spearhead to it . Provides defensive action to take place at least 7' away from my body. Be safe out there.

... Because of the very soft (silt) bottoms where I fish the pole needed to be longer to penetrate deeper for the holding power. I bought from Graingers, Rod Stock, Polypropylene, 3/4 In., 120 In. Added, like you did, a T on the top and sharpened the bottom. Use a 6'+/- rope from the T to the boat cleat on my Triton 240 LTS. Holds very well. .

I built the same thing...heres a tip, here in North east FL we have oyster beds, 1/2 inch metal wire conduit fits inside the other end ...stick it in about a foot or so and leave a foot sticking out and cut on a 45 degree angle...goes right through oyster beds like butter...without this the fiberglass will shatter over time.
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
So, slip 1/2" electrical conduit over the pointed end to form a metal tip? Nice! How tight of a fit is the conduit? Do you think a decent length piece would add enough strength to join 2 together for a 12' pole?

I made the same mistake. They are made weaker than a soup can. I ended up cutting mine at the break and making a 3 footer to stick down scupper hole when I’m backed up into marsh grass. The T handle has a V recess so it doubles as a rod rest.

If it’s a 3/4” pole, it should fit through a scupper hole and work pretty well. Get perpendicular to the current, and you can put it in front or back scupper hole, depending on which way you want to be facing. 👍

Nice Tutorial. Thanks for your time to create it. I was going to put one together, unfortunately I cant find the fiberglass stake. None at Lowes, Home Depot or the Walmarts around the Delmarva Peninsula. Its almost like they have been discontinued. I was looking for them before all this Covid shutdown started so i don't think its because of that issue. I can buy the blanks online but with shipping i might as well buy the Yakgear or yakattack stake out poles. Any Sugestions?

Wonderful solution. Can you detail how they connect to the boat? I have a Carolina Skiff and would like to try this option.
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
For a skiff it could be as simple as a metal ring attached to a tie down cleat with paracord. There are several manufacturer of hard mount tubes that give you more of a power-pole effect. Those mounts usually start in the $200 range.

Went to Walmart, Lowe’s, home depot yesterday and all I found was plastic coated steel tomato poles. Still on the hunt...

If you're in The Houston TX area I know one store that still has them. I just picked up 2 more yesterday to possibly make a 12' push pole. Though I'm a little concerned about the weight.

I’m new to the channel do you have a video of how it works? Is the rod too thick for sand?
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
To work the anchor you just stab it into the bottom. In soft marsh mud I can deploy one handed while fighting a fish with my other hand. Packed sand usually takes both hands. It's not easy but not impossible.

Use a flag pole holder with a pvc extension to the same T fitting on the end for the pole to go through.

How do you mount on the boat?
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
On a kayak you can push through a scupper hole but I prefer my anchor trolley. Allows me to position the angle of my kayak based on wind or current. On a boat you can tether to a cleat.

These look way better than the pvc ones I've been using...do you think a 3/4 coupler would be strong enough to hold 2 of these together to make a 12 ft pole if I epoxy them in.. I'd like a 10ft one so I can cut a couple feet off... thank you for sharing this video
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
CPVC or PVC coupler may be a little short to build in strength. Maybe look at copper tubing couplers to see it they're longer.

@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
The pole is 6 foot and the other end is pre-sharpened. I haven't experimented with making it longer yet. The question is if you are using this pole what do you use to join them that will be strong enough.

@@TexasCoastSportsman JB weld a threaded male adapter or union to the fiberglass pole and do the rest in pvc to extend and break down? May be a good way to add length when needed. Not sure how well the pvc extension woul work..

You tie a rope to yours or just stake through the anchor trolley?
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 2 ай бұрын
Mine attaches to the anchor trolley with a roughly 10ft piece of Paracord. It allows you to position your kayak better in heavy tide or wind.

This might be a stupid question but, what is that stake out pole for?
@TexasCoastSportsman
@TexasCoastSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
You stab it into the ground to hold you position. It's alot simpler than throwing an anchor. I've gotten to where I can release and plant my pole 1 handed while fighting a fish. I do this when I don't ant to be pulled on top of the spot I was fishing.
