Solder, rubber cover for connector, and heat shrink don't work on this high heat element. There is also no need of grinder. Cover easily opened with Plier by bending the sides.
@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake 9 күн бұрын
It's working! The center part doesn't get hot enough to melt the solder. And the fiberglash sheath and heat shrink tubing are made to withstand heat. I'm going to do the rest with ceramic wire nuts as I mentioned in the video after connecting and tinning the wires. When you take the cap off from teh top it has two springs along the side. If you lift the top up enough to get to the underneath to work on the sensor it extends the springs on the sides and they're shot after that. The cap just lays flat on the top or is tilted because of the stress on the springs.

Snow season is back. Thanks for the great video. I have used your experience to get the 24" with 2 x 10 Ah batteries for this winter to replace my very inexpensive Snow Joe snow thrower and am looking forward to something with actual power. As for the batteries, they should last well over 8 years. If you keep them well (probably best to store and charge them in the house) they will degrade and lose capacity but there's no reason they should fail. That doesn't mean none will ever fail of course, but I have had the Ego lawnmower with the 7.5 Ah battery for 8 or 9 years now and it still has about 50% capacity when I am done my lawn. It's just nice that they always start, are way quieter, and you don't stink of exhaust when you are done. There's a cost premium but hopefully there will be more competition in this space to drive the cost down. Ego charges a LOT for the batteries on their own the profit margins on them are huge.

I actually considered it but decided they were on the wrong track and probably won't last in that form for long. If Tesla decided to put an electric motor in a chevy, connecting to the transmission it would have been strange. An electric car doesn't need a transmission. It has smooth acceleration on it's own and to reverse it reverse the polarity. The transmission would be unneeded and a waste of energy. Toro took an existing blower and just made an electric motor to replace the gas one. All the mechanism can be eliminated and yet they kept it. Some people say it's a tried and true mechanism. It actually a bunch of unnecesary parts.. The fact that it's there is rather bizarre in the electric tool/vehicle world. But it might still work good. I have no idea.

@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake 25 күн бұрын
Yes, that's true. the battery cost is an issue. Not so much if they last a number of years. But, right now they cost a bit less for this reason. Now that I have a set of gas tanks, they fit in the bare tool commercial leaf blower. I no longer use a rake or haul leaves anyplace. So, this added use kind of cuts the battery cost in half as the gas tanks are moveable from one tool to another. Anyway, the tools work good but they will cost more in the long run than gas units. It's the convenience that is nice. You should check out the complete video.

I completely agree with you on the battery life being the deciding factor. Their move to a 5yr warranty is what’s giving me the confidence to purchase, but if the product lasts 10yrs, then it’s totally worth the price. If it dies a month or even halfway through the 6th winter, I will be disappointed. Hopefully I can exceed the 8yr mark and I’ll be quite happy.

I have just about decided this Bass Raider is right for me too. Your fiberglass boat, do you think, is it possible you mixed too much hardner and this caused your fiberglass to go soft later. I am Paying close attention because I have built RC Airplane parts, covering skins and stuff out of firberglass and have before seen epoxy go soft from too much hardner so I have always mixed my fiberglass "light" on the hardner and used a heat gun OR lesser heat sources to finish the resin cure. Never had any glass go soft and some of my stuff like an RC sailboat, is 35 years old. I am very interested to know your observations on mixing resin, maybe you might be encouraged to use polyester resin again shorting the hardner and using heat to make up the difference on new projects. Be encouraged, you can do it.

@leonard3k Ай бұрын
@CraftsmanontheLake Hello remember the fiberglass boat you talked about went soft because you used too much hardner. I figured these things out 40 years ago building rc gliders and using epoxy which is like polyester resin. I saw then an old glider where in the nose assembly epoxy turned dark and soft. So then if I did any fiberglass I remembered and would always use about %85 or %90 of recommended hardner and finish cure with heat. Now I really like that bass raider but had been thinking about a fiberglass version of my own, but this one is just too nice and good price too.

Love these videos you make regarding the Bass Raider. I just got one and wanna incorporate some of your handiwork into mine. The t-track...I can see all sorts of uses for this already and plan to install it, at least on one side. Why didn't you use the exploding rivets that you showed on another video? I am planning to mount the fish finder, my phone and even some pole holders, and the exploding rivets look to be a lot sturdier and able to withstand pressure much more effectively than the self-tapping screws. Regarding the t-track, are there styles/brands that you like/dislike for this application? They really gotta be trustworthy as I don't want a catchfish hookup to yank these out of the track.
@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake Ай бұрын
Hi, thanks! I didn't use the exploding rivets in the t-track because the stainless screwss seemed to be just fine. Plus I put a bead of silicon underneath each track to stick it and to make sure water didn't get into the screw areas. Silicon glues pretty good on plastic/metals. that along with the screws seems fine. And getting rivets with holes that small are not easy to find if available at all. T track is expensive. I found some decent ones for a better price on Amazon. And yes I've already moved a bunch of stuff around as I find it more convenient to be on the left or right or further forward or backward. The t-track makes that possible. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BGH6R6HD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I absolutely think you’re right about the batteries. If you look at the full video you’ll see I talk about that. But as far as performance, I find out perform my 10hp ariens it might be the reason why electric cars outperformed gasoline engines all the time California has more people than 40 states. They’re phasing out gasoline engines the small ones anyway. It’s the reason Honda decided to stop making lawn mowers last year. They be forced to go all electric, which will happen to everyone eventually.

@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake Ай бұрын
I hope not. Fingers crossed. I looked at the toro but it didn't make sense. Imagine if Tesla took a chevy and put an electric motor in it? Same transmisstion, differential, etc. You don't need that stuff. The motor can pretty much be connected directly to the wheels as they reverse with a switch and don't need to be shifted because an electric motor torques on it's own. Toro took a gas blower and put an electric motor on it. A few gears forward and reverse. The mechanism isn't even needed so it wastes energy needlessly. Toro admitted they wanted to get in on the electric market so they did it fast by retrofitting a gas blower. In the future they'll have to do one of two things. Abandon it or redesign it. No electric blower will be made that way.

Another nightmare re batteries, you sell it private after a year - no warranty on battery or tool for the new guy - the warranty's they do give are NOT transferable! so what about that? I had a chance to purchase that 28 blower for 1000 less second hand only one year old, but I passed because you are on your own if anything happens - and the price of a new battery if one went down would make the savings go up in smoke pretty much. And who knows how the first owner stored the batteries over the winter - maybe outside? not good it that was the case.
@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake Ай бұрын
All possibilities, but I'll tell you that if I didn't have one and had the chance to purchase one at half price I would have done it. especially since it just came out last year so only has one winter on it. The batteries probably would have been okay. If so, you got a new blower for half price. If the batteries died early, well the discount was the cost of a new set. If you had to purchase a new set, they have a 5 yr warranty. Odds are you would have made out good as they probably would have been okay. And, if uncharged lithium batteries freeze they don't work. So, if they looked like they held a full charge then they didn't freeze. You can actually leave lithium, charged in cold weather. It's trying to charge them frozen that damages them.
@barlowsmith6242
@barlowsmith6242 Ай бұрын
Yes the battery replacement is an expensive concern, and Im okay with this, but not with an electric car - which is pretty much worthless once it is about 8 or more years old because if the battery dies you are looking at 10 thousand at least - so no one is going to be buying a Tesla or any of the others after 8 years - trade in value - zero.
@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake Ай бұрын
I've heard horror stories like this too. Most cars warranty the batteries for 100k miles though. Still not enough for me yet. In the end the cost of either having them replace or getting a new car way too soon would negate the cost savings from gasoline. It's the same here with the batteries. Ya, cheap to charge but if you have to purchase new batteries after awhile you end up probably spending more.
