I am a retired airline pilot. I've flown into and out of JFK more times than I can remember. I've been in the control tower many times, and had controllers in my jump seat many times. The toughest job there, is ground control. There are so many taxiways, they go through the alphabet twice. Pull up the diagram of the airport, and you will understand.

Iv'e had days like that, "NK435 your number 25 for taxi", (pilot) "say nature of delay". I wanted to through his flight strip in the trash.

It was humorous enough when ATC said that, but now that you mentioned if that was Peter Griffin took it to a higher level!! I can just imagine Peter standing in the control tower saying that! LOL

Doesn't JFK have a ground radar or even paper strips? How can't he know whether the traffic is inbound or outbound?

He probably couldn't handle the traffic at JFK which is why I talk to him all the time now at ISP.

I think that If I would have to become an ATC, It would probably be fun at times, but I'm sure that my head would explode If this ever happens, which I'm sure that It does on a regular basis, if people aren't doing what they are suppose to do.

Those ATC's are the ones that keep the airways free because without them those planes would be crashing into each other and most of them wouldn't know what the hell is going on.

@40390576 We do have one, Its not meant to be "ground radar" but its meant to avoid collisions on runways with vehicles/planes that shouldn't be on the runway. do they have one? probably not. so he's doing a hell of a good job.

I now see the issues ATC has ESPECIALLY with inbound internation (non-english speakers). I alway though commerical pilots get "airport ground" training, so they know how to navigate the airports that they might serve (as regular or as a replacement).

I think it can happend to all of us at our job. Nobody is perfect. My call on this is like this: Good controller! And to "looseyourself630", why you are talking like somebody who know how the things are going in this job? I'm pretty sure you have 0 experience in aviation(its obvious..by the way how your reactions are) so let us, ok? Thank you sir!

@loseyourself630 lad you clearly dont have a clue. there is literally a few people in the world capable of puttin in a shift at jfk ground. i remember landing at jfk a couple of years ago and the amount of traffic waiting to take off is just phenomenal. Planes are just everywhere!!! To think its an organised chaos beggeres belief!!
