That bird chirping sound is a really cool trick. The guitarist is playing with a slide, but if you take the slide of your left hand and use it like a pick instead, you can make those sounds - sliding it over where the electric pickups are. Also - you should check out Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws. They were HUGE Skynyrd fans, and that was kind of their answer to Free Bird. It's phenomenal as well.

Quality of that video so good hard to imagine all those hot girls in that video are now in their 70's. Only a hint that this video was made 40 plus years ago the style of the cloths and hair although not all that far off from today as styles come back again.

Hi I recommend you listen to Galneryus (Angel of salvation) live version It's a long song but I assure you that it will bring a tear to your eye. They really convey a lot. It's Japanese power metal and they have an orchestra on stage.

Pink Floyd had released their Dark Side of the Moon album in 1973. The LP did incredibly well (breaking all the music records). When Floyd went back into the studio, they had no ideas… they had dried up (creatively). So, they went to the studio for weeks and just smoked pot. One day, Gilmour plucked those four notes on his guitar (it’s the four notes that you hear on "Shine On" before the singing begins). Waters heard it and asked Gilmour to repeat it. They built Shine On from those four notes and the rest of the album was completed in 1975. When the album was finished, Syd Barrett walked into the studio. He just stood in the corner. He was unrecognizable. After a while, Mason whispered to Gilmour and Waters… “I think that’s Syd”. I’m not sure if they went up to him or not. As for arranging the songs on album… Waters wanted to split Shine On into two parts (the first and last songs. Gilmour objected and wanted the entire song to be contiguous. Waters obviously won that argument. Decades later Gilmour agreed that splitting the song into two parts was the better decision.

I saw these guys in Portland, Maine in 1977 with 38 Special and Foreigner as opening acts. 6 months later Ronnie was gone(RIP) I saw Foreigner again in 1992 in Guam while I was there with the Navy. My wife and I followed the band to their hotel on the beach side bought a couple of rounds of drinks for the band....Lou Gramm remembered the show in Portland and partying with Lynyrd Skynyrd that night. Needless to say it was cool talking with Lou and Guitarist Mick Jones.

When Skynyrd broke out here in the Cincinnati Area in the mid/late 70's, I never saw so many fellow rednecks act like the second coming of Christ happened. It was pretty funny. Just a band. Good songs, but after the Star Wars insanity, I needed a break from 'FANatics'.

They put out a double album called Lynyrd Skynyrd Gold and Platinum. Basically a "best of" album and back then your record collection wasn't complete if you didn't own it. Freebird, Gimme Three Steps, Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, Saturday Night Special and The Ballad Of Curtis Lowe will get you well started down the Skynyrd rabbit hole

oh wow.. southern rock.. great choice. If you want to continue..i gotta recommend Allman Brothers - start with Blue Sky (amazing guitar solo - first by Duane Allman then by Dickey Betts .) But so many more options in the genre.

Freddie may well be the greatest "frontman" in rock history. There are a handful of singers who can even approach the stage command he had. Halford, Dickenson, Ozzy(maybe), Plant and Dio..There are others, obviously. But very few could take a fan on a journey the way Freddie did. AMAZING. Brian May doesn't get nearly enough credit for his genius.

What makes this song sadder for me, is seeing his wife standing behind him, almost like an angel over his shoulder. Her passing a couple months later, just adds to the feeling. You can easily imagine her that way in the last few months of his life, her both proud and sad for him.
