i feel sad cause i'm practicing and it starts kind of good but if i keep it for a long time something goes wrong and it kind of hurts.i rewatched so many times the parts that u give some step by step ways to practice and you just sturt with a normal sound and reach the fry on, but when i try to do the same i dont feel my vocal cords trembling but static and the air goes like a sandpaper trought it really and hurts. Any advice ?

I've never understood what part of my throat should I use. Should it be my voice cracking like going in and out of headvoice or should it be that other thing that feels more thick, like more muscle is there and it's not my voice at all.

awesome tutorial, and i’ve probably seen it 100+ times, and ive gotten it nailed down off and on in the last couple years since starting vocals, but i still get a painful scratch in the back of my throat, just behind where the scream starts, if that makes sense. any tips on avoiding that? am i trying too hard to push air through? it seems to happen after a little while of screaming in and around the same pitch and tone. would super love and appreciate any thoughts or ideas :))

fun fact, listening to this through my studio monitors, the effect change around the 12 min mark scared the shit out of me i thought someone walked into my apartment. But also, really enjoying this. Ive been trying to "scream" for a long time and i know its been damaging my voice, i used to do early Death covers but it hurt and it got to the point where any time i would try it would just make me cough like crazy. Zero training and Zero technique. Im going straight from this video into patreon for the full course. Since being diagnosed with cancer im not allowed to work anymore and i gotta vent my frustrations somehow so im getting back into music and i want people to hear what this shit feels like. Mad respect for you dude.

whenever i try to fry scream for longer periods (20min-1hr) i get like a intense burning pain like it begins softer but after awhile it become like a full on burning you finger on a hot stove pain i have no idea what i'm doing wrong...

When you experience a burning pain, it is almost always from pushing too hard and squeezing too much. Try to relax more! You might think you are relaxed, but if you were, you would not have that burning sensation to begin with.

Partly ironically actually thinking of inviting tallah to cyprus 🇨🇾 My dad used to fly in bands into Ukraine as a hobby (mostly grindcore bands) so all we need to do is meet the right people Also when/if tallah tours anywhere in Europe during hopefully not school I will come. Please come to Europe.

Love the video! You've got a very similar timbre to Chester. I'm also a classically trained singer who has been learning to scream. I'll be diving into more of your videos; you’re a great teacher. My only concern is that some of your definitions seem to counter those of Melissa Cross who has worked with and trained some of the best screamers. She says that a fry scream shouldn't be loud but just sounds loud because of the overtones. She also says that the mixture of falsetto and "meow" sound creates the fry scream whereas singing full voice then opening up like you do at 06:50 is a hybrid scream (which is what I learned to do studying my favourite metal vocalists). I interviewed Melissa on my podcast, @@BridgeTheAtlantic, a few years ago and she demonstrated the different methods. (It’s the most popular video on our channel if you want to watch it). Anyway, let me know your thoughts. Maybe you’re both doing the same thing but explaining it differently. Seeing as I’m a singer, I obviously don’t want to hurt my voice on my journey to screaming. 🤘🏼

No offense to Melissa Cross, but I do not like the way her technique sounds, and I do not agree with a lot of the things she says about screaming, in general. To my knowledge, she is not a touring vocalist. I have toured with a few vocalists she has trained (like Levi from Miss May I), and their voices did not hold up very well on the tours while mine was strong as heck even when I got sick. I think that speaks for itself. I am sure Melissa Cross is a nice, old lady, and I wish her the best, but I do not think she is the be-all end-all of harsh vocals. That is just my opinion.

Hey Mr. Lights, while back you were talking about either 90s/2000s band. The singer nailed the chorus in the studio but butchers it live. Do you remember the band name? I can't for the life of me.
