Was there the tweet of a bird included in the audio? Thought I heard one very faintly. If that's the case, I'd prefer to hear the birdsong and nothing else. (I realize it's likely straight birdsong may not be anyone else's preference.)
@WildWoodlandsSW6 күн бұрын
Hello. Yes,there was. The first half of the video has the music,as i am doing some info.about the bird,and was intrested how the rhythm of the bird worked with the music. I realise this is not everyones taste. The second half of the video is just the pure birdsong,which is also my preference,on the whole. Thanks for your feedback 🐦

I think I've seen this bird, at Ide, that red colour is something you don't forget.
@WildWoodlandsSW6 күн бұрын
Nice. They do like wild areas around,so Ide would be a good place. Their song is quite distinctive,so a good one to listen out for,and get to know which areas they are in. They tend to be quite shy,so sightings are quite fleeting normally. 👍🐦

@WildWoodlandsSW17 күн бұрын
Hello. Apologies for a delay in getting back to you. They are doing very well,almost tripling in size in two months. They are all in 50cm pots,so plenty of room to grow now. Im really happy with the Azura,and look forward to them rustling in the wind soon. I also have 3 quick growing Italian cypress,which have grown close to a foot in 3 months,so they are doing well also. Hopefully I will have a nice natural screening in not too long! Many thanks for checking in. Best wishes🌲

@4:00 there's a call in the background - does anyone know what it is? it's goes from low to high, like "oo-eeh". I've been trying to ID it for ages! In this recording it sounds faraway, it's not one of the foreground owls.
@WildWoodlandsSWАй бұрын
Good observation. I believe that it is a Nightjar. When not churring,the Nightjar sometimes makes this high sound intermittently(and also wing clapping),so i am fairly sure that is what it is. Thanks for your comment

Nice job brother. I did one but it was a bit different since it was spring fed. But super porous . I used 45 bags of bentonite and had a neighbor use a skid loader to till it into the dirt. It holds good but also has a steady flow of water going into it. Just an observation but I think you should have one side level with the ground in a spot that would allow some run off to enter the pond when it rains, it would add more water than what just lands in the pond.👍🇺🇸
@WildWoodlandsSWАй бұрын
That's great to hear,and nice to have it spring fed. Yes,that's a good point. There is a phase 2 of this video,where i added a shallow area,which also made a larger volume for rain to catch. I like the idea of a runoff too,and if i can incorporate one i will. Best wishes,thanks for your comment 🌲🐦

This is wonderful! As I understand it you used bentonite and soil in layers, rather than mixed together? Did you use puddled clay to start with? I want to make a smaller one in my garden, about a third of yours, without plastic of anykind. Also considered railway sleepers lined with puddled clay and bentonite, I wonder if that would take. Its so impressive and no leakage!
@WildWoodlandsSW2 ай бұрын
Thankyou very much. Yes,i put about 1 inch bentonite,and a slightly thinner layer of aquatic soil on top. The most important thing with the bentonite is to aim for no more than a 30 degree slope,so that the bentonite cannot slip. If your pond is a bit smaller,the depth maybe a bit less than 2ft,so it will depend on the size. A mostly shaded area,with not too much leaf fall would be good also. I didnt use any puddled clay,as the sodium bentonite will naturally expand upto 17 times,so there is no need for clay. Great to hear you are creating a habitat in your garden. Bentonite is a great solution to avoid a plastic liner. Best wishes! 🌲

Thankyou for your feedback. I wasn't sure at the beginning,and i think you are correct. Much appreciated. I will change the title to the European Hornet. What product did you use for the top soil? Could you please provide a link for where you sourced bentonite product as well. Thank you.
@WildWoodlandsSW3 ай бұрын
Hello. The soil on top was aquatic soil,specially for ponds,and easily available at most garden stores. I dont have the exact company i got the bentonite,but it is the sodium bentonite I used(as a pose to calcium bentonite). The sodium bentonite has a higher swelling capacity,upto 17 times. If you search it online in your area,you should find an outlet. Mine was delivered in a few days. I also recommend the granular form,as a pose to powdered. Thanks for watching 🌲

Yes,it happens when there are lots of branches in the way(which is fairly often),and wasnt enough time to change the settings. But at least i can tick it in the bird book now 🙂 It really feels like they can sense you looking at them and then they scoot off. The buzzards I've found to be the hardest,the minute you pick up a camera and look in their direction they're gone lol. They do have the features of both 🙂👍
