Was camping once and had a barn owl scream at me, was very close and i didnt have a clue what it was at the time, frightening experience.
@WildWoodlandsSW2 ай бұрын
That would definently give one a fright,especially not knowing what it was. The call is very primeval,and sounds like a larger animal. 🦉

Barn owls are beautiful but their call is terrible if you hear it not understanding what it is. In America we call the Athene noctua or little owl; burrowing owl. Not easy to see unless you live in the country side and you're looking for them. Cute little buggers. I've seen them around, little owls but I never knew what their call sounded like. Because of this video I now know! Cool!

Great,happy it helps! Yes,the little/burrowing owls are super cute. And it definently helps to be forewarned what a barn owl sounds like,otherwise it would be a very terrifying sound to hear in the night. Thanks for watching 🙂🌲🦉

Gorgeous birds -- and such a variety of calls! We have around 13-14 species of owl here in Colorado, but I mostly only come across Great Horned owls and Barn owls in our suburban neighborhood. What a lovely introduction to the the ones in your part of the world. Enjoyed, L.

Great,happy you enjoyed our little troupe of owls here in the Uk 🙂 Wonderful that you have so many species there!,but as you say,rarely seen. Which is what makes them so exciting when you do spot one,or at least hear that they are about 🙂🦉🎶

Think I've just heard a Tawny owl alarm call whilst watching the Perseid meteor shower near my house. Sounds like the strings part from the shower scene in Psycho -a bit unnerving when stood in a dark field on one's own!
@WildWoodlandsSW3 ай бұрын
@@MrJoeBetts That's great. They do sound very primordial sometimes! Nice to see the Perseid meteor shower,i also watched it one year,and it was amazing how clear it was. I saw about 70 meteors,and could even see some splitting into two.

@4:00 there's a call in the background - does anyone know what it is? it's goes from low to high, like "oo-eeh". I've been trying to ID it for ages! In this recording it sounds faraway, it's not one of the foreground owls.
@WildWoodlandsSW3 ай бұрын
Good observation. I believe that it is a Nightjar. When not churring,the Nightjar sometimes makes this high sound intermittently(and also wing clapping),so i am fairly sure that is what it is. Thanks for your comment
