The F-15 can carry 3-600 gallon external fuel tanks; giving it an extra 1800 gallons of fuel. A 600 pound external tank only gives it an extra 250 pounds of fuel. This wouldn’t get the jet off the ground. The F-15 EX has a max fuel capacity of 5500 gallons of jet fuel with conformal tanks and external tanks installed; giving it greater range and/or loitering time.

Let's not confuse the term "low cost". Developing and fielding the laser system will be some BIG dollars. Let's go for MEGAwatt class lasers on ships. Plus getting a better SM-X missile.

Biggest advantage is ability to produce in absolutely astronomical quantities if need be and economically so. *"Put 100,000 US Americans to work building Humvees"* plus all of variants, spare parts, trailers, etc. still make Jeeps in the Philippines actually 😊😊

I find this almost funny. This F-15 can spot enemy aircraft at 200 miles ? I was an avionics technician on the F-111 many years ago. It had a 300 mile radar range.. I repaired and tested it routinely ... God knows what this aircraft can really do...lol

Yeah, assuming the enemy aircraft has an RCS the size of an aluminum barn, but vs Chinese stealth, not so much. Beyond that, that range is of little value given the AIM-120/D has a max range less than 80 miles vs highly maneuverable aircraft, and that's only the 1st missile shot when hi and fast, before you have to dive and defend a missile shot at you. At 5,000ft the MAR is less than 10 miles.

The Chinese J-20 is way too big and the canards on the plane stick out like a sore thumb. It will easily be detected by the F15 EX and especially the F22 & F35. Plus, there is the aim 260 that is being implemented.

@@BigPapi1965 Physical size is almost irrelevant. The F-15 has an RCS of 25, and the much bigger B1 bomber 10. The B2 has an RCS of only 0.0001, while the much smaller F-16's is around 5.0 - five thousand times the RCS. Better stealth helps in 4 ways. 1. You can get close undetected for superior SA. 2. You can fire on an aircraft without them knowing they're under attack. 3. You can fly towards enemy stealth aircraft while holding a radar lock using the more powerful aircraft radar much longer, increasing the missile's PK. 4. You can evade the enemy's missile because it can't see you. Expect aircraft radars to get much more powerful, and missile seeker's radars as well. The aircraft radar only improves PK if you can maintain a lock longer because you don't have to turn cold, increasing the odds your missile can find the bandit using its own much smaller, weaker radar.

The boost from 29k to 32k thrust is actually a field upgrade kit, and the SE needs the added power, and always has. The Silent Eagle had some badly needed aerodynamic tweaks because the Eagle pushes a ton of air and unlike the Viper, will never supercruise.

These vehicles were not intended as direct action vehicles. They made them because of IED’s and poor PR during the Bush admin. The military was improperly using them and getting people killed.

I am curious about the impact of high altitude pollution on the ozone layer? Between these approaches, what are the environmental impacts. Something that flies every day would have more potential damage than the occasional rocket flight into orbit.

It is already being decommissioned. It needs to be faster. It is now effective in a world with SAMS. Money has yet to be allocated to upgrade or supply continuous parts. Everyone is nostalgic, but we have better weapons for the same job. es, the A-10 "Warthog" is currently being retired by the U.S. Air Force, with the first wave of aircraft already sent to the "boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, signifying a shift towards more advanced fighter jets like the F-35; the Air Force plans to phase out the entire A-10 fleet within the next year. The A-10, on the other hand, has not been produced for nearly 3 decades, has suffered the highest loss ratio of all modern US Aircraft, and now airframes are cannibalized for parts to keep A-10Cs in service. It is not the F-35 that will have maintenance issues in the coming year, it'll be the A-10.🍋

Does it have sonic boom issues? I also believe Space X will likely have the best solution. Operating cost and reliability could also have possible issues.some issues. I also have doubts of the VTOL ability. My exhaustive 33 hour flights from the US to Hong Kong trips were via S Korea were exhausting, not to mention the time differential 🤪 .

The JLTV will be the go to vehicle and that’s a good thing over this Sabre. I’ve seen IED’s pick and flip a 6x MRAP. I can only imagine what it would do to such a small vehicle. There is a need for something smaller in ship to shore operations, but this doesn’t seem like a big upgrade on the hmmwv.
