Remember riding one of these wonderful machines in 1979 brand new. a friend let me take it out and wow! what a smooth , powerful bike. Could have bought one in the 80's for $1100 us, but I thought it wasn't nice enough. What a mistake. Had a friend with the standard model with 100,000 miles on it and it still pulled like a freight train. Enjoy .

Dang. I had one in the mid eighties to 92. Traded a t-boned 73 challenger 340 for it. Loved that bike. Have actually been looking for one to restore. What's the parts availability? Thanks
@Pest8895 күн бұрын
Parts arent too much of an issue. You can get parts used or new. Engine parts are on ebay without much issue. I was even able to get new valves from the UK at a decent price, better than ebay. Its just shopping around really. Gasket kits no problem. New pistons and rings no problem. I think so far the build is around 7k Canadian for me. Including the bike and a front end I didnt use

@@Pest889 Well, happy trails when you get it going, and thanks for the info. I'll keep looking for mine. Fun fact- 79 XS 1100 was the fastest production bike that year.

you need to continue compounding the tank , I still see micro orange peel , clear it and do it again until it's like glass , I'am almost finished with a '78 xs1100 but I'am not chopping it up , it's just a total restore to stock. Good luck
@Pest8893 ай бұрын
I'm not too worried about that. It doesn't need to be perfect. It's a great bike. It's over 40 years old. It shouldn't be perfect 😊 plus if a guy goes too long it can go through the clear coat and I would be starting over

so very wrong about cnc, what it does do is simply equal all the ports and chambers, which equalisise flow accross all in and out ports Will you notice it on a mild build, not really, but anything over 450 500 hp, yes you will, definately, it does smoothen out the range thats for sure personal experience

I dont know but it would seem to be impurities that float to the top. After I skim it off the liquid lead is very clean and pure looking. I know that anything that isnt lead floats to the top

Bernard Mondello uses a large amount of these for his customers. He's a pretty reputable guy so I wouldn't worry about the purchase - they may need porting to bring them around though. I'm from southern Ontario myself.
@keyworxautolock82354 жыл бұрын
@ron Kay On his personal car he would probably use the newest version of the Edelbrocks due to the better port design on them. On my own car I am getting a set of Bulldogs worked on, they need work to get them to where they need to be before I can use them. I need a larger head to feed 534 cubes properly. In my opinion the best head would be the latest design Edelbrock - 2nd choice Pro Comps - 3rd would be first generation Edelbrocks.

I hope you have better luck than I had with My ProComp heads, My heads made less power than the stock Ford heads. The Valve seats were sunk so far into the Valve pockets they had to all be replaced. When I got done I had AFR cost with poor performance. All I can say is good luck!

@Pest8898 жыл бұрын
we havnt finished building the car yet, so we havnt run the engine much. We did the break in running the engine on a stand. It ran great. I would get different valves and springs. I have heard the valves can break that come from china. I saw on youtube that all aftermarket heads need a valve job before installing, but I didn't know that. It might be spring before we can take the car for a ride I will update if we have any problems

I actually bought a set of those heads from the guy on ebay cut to 64cc and he also cut an Edelbrock RPM intake to match them. I had a local shop check them out, they actually measured around 66cc and the valves are sealed up nice. Springs that came with them are on the light side as mentioned. I still haven't run them yet.
