you need to continue compounding the tank , I still see micro orange peel , clear it and do it again until it's like glass , I'am almost finished with a '78 xs1100 but I'am not chopping it up , it's just a total restore to stock. Good luck

I'm not too worried about that. It doesn't need to be perfect. It's a great bike. It's over 40 years old. It shouldn't be perfect 😊 plus if a guy goes too long it can go through the clear coat and I would be starting over
