The satin neck is a huge improvement imo It plays much better and the neckplate is mich more charming

I wonder if its purely aging, or if the original release was a slightly darker yellow.

Not a big fan of satin necks either, but can get some polish and shine up the neck. i usually play a fully coated gloss neck so to me a satin neck looks 'unfinished' persoanl preference. Good overview here, still waffling on it.

i have an original surfgreen beast from 2002 and my pick guard is now golden due to exposure to the elements because i loved this guitar so much i never put it away so i could play it everyday and i will never part with it because i love the joy it gives me on a daily basis thank you Tom im waiting for you tour next february in Melbourne Australia.

I bought one new in the Seafood Green or whatever back in 2002-3. I sold it immediately. Kind of regretted that after i saw what they were fetching. No big whoop, I've sold more great Guitars then i can count. Is the new one Mahogany Body ? Thanks !

I remember when the originals came out. I was going to get one and put a standard Strat pickguard and vintage-spec pickups in it. Back in the pre-CBS days you could order strata either way, and I was big into Dick Dale style surf rock. Would have been perfect. Wouldn’t have been an investment, because I’d have sold or given away the pickguard, bridge, and pickup.

I would have added more springs if you are not using the tremolo. It would add more sustain.

I got the squier version when his guitar first came out my brother worked at guitar center so it was only $70 bucks, then i put an emg which was bout $100 i always thought it was funny the pickup was more expensive than the guitar

I imagine the neck finishes are the same. I have a mark hoppus bass and I also noticed the neck was a wonderful gloss, but the back of the headstock revealed that it’s merely skin oil from 15 years of playing before I got to it. It could be that something about these models made it take on oils easier, but I think it’s just from use

Appreciate the honest review man. Too many reviews have clearly been bought and just raving about it. Whereas you have picked up on a few things that weren't perfect. Also nailed the tone, which many others haven't been able to achieve!

Just a little clarification, the wiring on the reissue isn’t exactly the same. The new ones have a treble bleed circuit which the old ones didn’t, that way if you bring down the volume on the guitar the high frequencies will still sound clearly instead of more muffled like in the old one. Still, having both new and old, I think both are awesome in my book, and personally I prefer the satin neck over the gloss finish, feels smoother and less sticky

i got my TD strat off ebay in 2005 when i was 15 for $400. I was blink obsessed and I jumped at the opportunity . It had a small chip in the side but it was just a little character. I begged my mom to loan me the money and explained how this would be the purchase of the lifetime. A bit of an exaggeration but I am so glad I had the insight to the opportunity. Kid sent it to me covered in tape residue, packaged like a fool but I cleaned that baby off and I have treasured that guitar all these years. It is still my favorite guitar in my collection. I was pretty intrigued to see the re-issue! I no doubt would jump on that if I didn't have my OG. I am glad to see others are getting the opportunity to play it today but I mentally high-five my 15 year old self.

Does the graffiti yellow look much lighter in person? Got mine yesterday and it is a very light, pastel yellow.

So many ppl have been complaining that it comes with a single pickup but do they not realize that when you take off the pickguard cover, the guitar has been routed for a single coil middle pickup, as well as a humbucker neck pickup?
