Im anticipating applying to MSP3 next year and am trying to figure out how the daily schedule goes with this program. Also, how did you fund housing during this time? Just student loans ?

A follow-up question: Do you suggest taking MCAT before, during, or after, the MSP3 program provided I'll get in using GRE? Thank you in advance
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I think whenever you have the most time to study for it will be the best. You definitely don’t want to sit for your MCAT without having already done all the prereqs. I also used the GRE to apply. And then I used two months prior to starting the program to study/take the MCAT. Keeping in mind I had already take all the prereqs. I do think the program gives you good coverage of what you would see on the MCAT but your best form of studying for MCAT is doing practice questions

I just subscribed. Considering how much effort you put into making this video and the valuable information you provided in addition to responding to almost every single comment, you deserve my subscription. I'm sure you should be in residency or close to. Congratulations and keep up the good work. I'm currently considering applying to the program. I plan to take the MCAT in June (6 months from now). I took some of my pre-requisites online during covid which is accepted by most/all med schools but I still have some pre-requisites left (and covid is over). I was thinking of going to a community college or this program MSP3. I work full time as an RN but will have to quit when I get accepted and do a shift on a weekend (PRN) and see if that works, else, I'll just quit work altogether. What is your suggestion? I like the weather in Florida so that's another reason I seek to relocate to somewhere warmer.
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe Жыл бұрын
The MSP3 program is mostly for students that already completed a bachelors and most (if not all of the prereqs) for medical school. It’s a masters program basically to allow you to prove to medical schools that you can handle the curriculum. Especially for people that have below average GPAs. That was one of the reasons why I completed it. If you want to do very well in the program I wouldn’t work full time. As a nurse maybe like 1-2 shifts but nothing more weekly.

Hey Natalia wondering what the class schedule was like in terms of when lectures were each day? Thanks!
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe Жыл бұрын
There was two lectures everyday M-Th and Fridays were for review from what I remember. It was like 4 classes a semester so two days of the week you would have lecture for 2 of the classes. The other two days, you would have lecture for the other classes. Lectures were 1 hour long. They were not required. They were also recorded so you can always rewatch or watch on your own on 2x speed after the fact if you wanted to. The first semester I attended class religiously. But when I started applying/interviewing for med school , I would go virtually. Hope this helps!!

It was helpful especially when transitioning to first year of medical school. The professors are very helpful and if you don’t understand things they are willing to work with you. You don’t really get a choice in taking the courses or not. It’s part of the curriculum in order to graduate. They’re doable!

Hi Natalia, congratulations on your success 🎉🥳 I am starting the MSP3 program this Fall. I was wondering if the Princeton review elective course can be taken during the Fall term? Is there any restrictions with the electives? I would like to re-take the MCAT next spring, and want to take advantage of the course.
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! I am not sure but usually adjusting to the program in the Fall is challenging so I wouldn’t recommend it. Most people try in the spring/summer once the course load lightens up and they get the hang of the studying and rigor. I did the MCAT before I started the program. In hind sight I think it would be difficult to balance both. However it doesn’t hurt to try. Hope this helps!! Best of luck!! And congrats on being accepted !!!

They do have requirements that may vary year to year. The applicant pool has gotten more competitive so yes it can be relatively challenging but it is definitely doable. I would try nonetheless . It is better to be rejected than to never try anyways. If you are concerned you can always reach out to their staff and generally they have been helpful over the years to explain what their requirements are or direct you to where you can find them. My overall GPA is 3.6 but my Science GPA is a 3.45. I have not taken my MCAT. With my Science GPA, I might not be admitted to MD school in Florida, my preference. Thus, I will be applying to the MSP3 program on June of 2023, hopefully, to begin in Sept of 2024. I have so many questions. Would you happen to have a way to contact you? Thank you. Xcaret Hernandez

It's great to see FSU's medical school evolve to such a large institution. In 2002, I moved to FL from Colorado. I had done a summer course with anatomy lab taught by an MD/PhD and 2nd year COM students at the Denver Health Sciences Center. That anatomy lab with the classic "Netters" book was absurd with the volume of memorization in such a short summer. We did the lab for the upper body and head/neck. The Circle of Willis was insane to identify along with cranial nerves. From having experienced the CU Medical School as a summer session, I was curious to see what FSU had. I remember walking by a building that looked like a trailer somewhere out west of the Leach Gym. I could smell the formaldehyde. Apparently, FSU was on the cusp of starting a new medical school in its infancy. Now, it's huge with thousands of applicants. I studied MPH at FSU and had two classmates in biochemistry that went onto medical school - one at FSU. As for me, I had pondered medical school or the pharmacy degree since I did well in biochemistry. Those two students I mentioned actually wanted me to try for medical school. But ultimately, I finished the MPH and decided to stay in my field of biomedical engineering - another MS I had. So, I now work at Medtronic with AWS Cloud Computing and Machine Learning. Best wishes on medical school.

When you do your rotations at other campuses do you have to live there during the whole year or is it temporary?
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe2 жыл бұрын
You live in the city where your regional campus is. If you rotate at another campus that isn’t yours to do an away rotation some of them provide housing or some of them are on your own expense. Rotations are usually 4-6 weeks so it’s temporary. When I rotated in Immokalee for 6 weeks, they provided housing!

Hi Natalia, Sorry to bother you with so many questions. I am truly considering this program and attended the open house. I was wondering if it would be possible to know how much you spent in total on this program. I just want to know if it is feasible for me. I have had people tell me I do not need a masters but I feel like if I am already going to be in a gap year I might as well make the most of it. My gpa was 3.5 and my BCPM is 3.38 what I did do bad on was the mcat, I still have to retake it I am just not sure if I should apply this upcoming cycle. Thank you!
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what a "bad" MCAT means because that's a pretty subjective statement depending on who is saying it and who is interpreting it. It really depends on where you want to go because your stats can be competitive for one school but subpar for others. If you want to go to schools that have a high average MCAT then you may seriously consider retaking the MCAT and utilize the gap year to do that. The program won't hurt you if you excel in it. No one is going to knock you for doing a master's. However, I will say the program is for people that are trying to redeem their undergraduate GPAs or strengthen their foundation for MCAT in some cases there is overlap in classes. It is difficult to do well in the program and work full time/part-time so most people take out loans. I believe each semester was about 6000 in tuition alone except summer so I spent about $15000 because in summer you take fewer credits. $15000 is a lot of money to cough up however it is arguably reasonable for a master's degree and a small chunk compared to what someone would spend for a medical degree. That being said I would be certain that you want to do it before you commit to it. I applied to both the program and medical school in the same year. I dropped out at the end of my spring semester to start medical school and later returned (virtually) to finish....just out of a personal desire to finish and HAVE my masters. Some people discontinue and never look back after getting their MD acceptance. .......OVERALL just depends on your individual stats and overall application (schools looking more holistically at applicants these days) AND how you compare to the pool of applicants for the school you're trying to get into. i.e. i had 3.4 undergrad GPA, 4.0 masters GPA, 505 MCAT. This may not be competitive for USF which had a 516 average when I applied to med school and FSU had a 505 average when I applied. I also had SEMINOLE and FSU written all over my app. thus I was very competitive for FSU but not for USF....for different reasons. Things to keep in mind. Hope this helps! Email me if you have any more questions!

Hey there! I was looking at applying to the medical sciences masters program at USF, but instead of the MSP3 route, I was interested in the women's health concentration. Do you know if this concentration would make me look less competitive to medical school than the MSP3 route? Thank you and I love your channel!
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I don’t think it’ll hurt you but it seems very specific. If your overall goal is to build a solid medical science foundation and get a good grade then MSP3 is perfect because it’s similar to the first year of medical school curriculum content. I am not familiar with the women’s health concentration myself. But at your stage I don’t know how valuable it would be to focus on just women’s health because in medical school you see it all. I hope this helps!! The main thing is getting the highest GPA you can and proving to schools you can handle a rigorous curriculum. Wishing you the best of luck!!

Hello, I hope that you are well. In the third year, do students have to take exams after every clinical rotation? For instance, after the surgery rotation, will you take an exam about surgery ?

I've been sketch about applying because I'm terrified that if I fall an exam I'm going to be kicked out of medical school. This girl at my job told me her friend got kicked out after failing an exam in his third year. He was left with 400k in debt.
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe2 жыл бұрын
there are going to be plenty of exams in medical school and if you become a doctor there will exams you need to take for the rest of your life. They can be intimidating but with great preparation you’ll over come it. There are exams after your required rotations ( Family Med, peds, obgyn, internal med, surgery, psych, Emergency Med, and geriatrics). You’ll also have to take your boards. You will not get kicked out if you fail and exam and most medical schools are supportive if you have academic difficulties. Hope this helps!!

@@NataliaCorreaMDTribe thanks for sharing but this girl at my job friend got kicked out of medical school for failing the OBGYN exam. He took it and failed. @@megan8375 Medical school is a long process lol but I would focus on what is in front of you. The first thing would be to take the MCAT and apply and once you’re in then I would worry about the next exams. When you’re interviewing for medical school you will have the opportunity to ask all those questions of worries you have about the school. You can also email any school and they will be able to share their student handbook with you most likely. But again, they would probably tell you to focus on getting into medical school first before you concern yourself with something that you will face 3 years from then. Don’t let fear deter you.

I have a question. Did you apply to medical schools while you were doing the masters in fall to raise your GPA? If so, how did you show medical schools that you were actually pursuing a masters and to look at those grades in progress than look at your low GPA? I ask because I am in the same situation. Also, Love your videos!
@NataliaCorreaMDTribe3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you so much♥️ I did apply to medical school while I was in my masters. Since it was a masters program I got a new GPA however on the Med school applications (MD and DO) they saw both GPAs. I was able to provide updates when my fall grades released and later in the spring when those grades were posted. I only interviewed at FSU and they did ask me about my masters so I mentioned how well I did but they never really asked me about my undergraduate GPA aside from recognizing the significant improvement. GPA is only one portion of the application and I think showing that I was actively addressing that blemish was what helped me stand out or at least get by as an applicant! Hope this helps!!
