Hi! It is not possible to add support for your own API keys for LLMs because it would not work correctly when translating a site. LLM solutions (be it OpenAI or Anthropic) often return unusable data, like an error, or totally messed up content. Besides the content itself, using direct data from an LLM would also often break the HTML part of your page. This is why the WPML AI engine has a lot of checks for all the content that is being sent and then received from LLM systems. It checks for a TON of things like data integrity, HTML markup, error messages, correct formatting, formality, and many, many other things. This is all done by our own algorithms on top of what an LLM returns. Of course, such checks require powerful servers that can handle such an amount of data and this comes at a cost. And this is why we have no plans on enabling you to use your own API key directly - because then the first thing you would ask is "Why did the translation break my page?". Because LLMs do that, they "hallucinate". Unless you add our technology on top that makes sure things work as they should.

@@WPML To be clear: I don't understand why today we can't have header.html and header-{language_code}.html for translations. The worst part is that translated stuff isn't removed from DB after e.g. switching the theme or by removing it.

@@PaweBystrzan thank you for your comments. Could you please help us understand one thing - what is the exact issue that you are facing when translating FSE site/content with WPML? To be able to raise this to developers, we need to know a bit more about what isn't working or isn't working as expected. Just saying "WPML database is a mess" isn't really helpful. Why is it a mess, what about it causes problems for you, and what can we do to fix this? Even better would be to create a support ticket and share the link to it here. That way you can really explain the whole depth of the problems you're facing. Thank you!

@@WPML It's very simple: You're making everything to translate as a string while in FSE and block themes we should be able to create html files. Imagine that you want to translate the navigation or whole header - now you'll create thousands versions just while switch the theme -> DB is growing. That's simple point but should give the direction to devs. EDIT: Also thank you for your time.

@@PaweBystrzan thanks for clarifying. But why do you say translating a header would produce "thousands of versions"? And, if I understand correctly, instead of putting the translations into the database, you would like them to be put into HTML files (like the original theme files)? The problem with this is - this is not how WordPress itself works. An FSE theme comes with HTML files for templates, but the second you edit them, the new version is not saved to the original HTML file but to your database. There are also reasons why this is so. In any case, WPML only follows the rules set by WordPress and saves the translations to the database. In any case, as a site owner, I'd rather have 100 entries in the database than 100 HTML files added to my server.

@@benfou and @natureetpartage you are right, we did change the interface in this case slightly. The thing is, the main interface in this video (the screen where you activate pay-as-you-go) is still exactly the same as in the video. However, we did rename that tab from "Automatic Translation" to "Tools" so that the initial step in this video is different. Thank you for reporting this! By the end of this summer, WPML will have a completely new interface in all major places so after that goes live we'll update this and other videos.

Hi! Can you please clarify? Do you mean to import products you don't want to have in the primary language? Like, the default language is English and the secondary is Spanish, and you want to import products into Spanish but not have them also in English?

Yes, you can do this but you need to use the following steps: - Make sure WPML Export and Import is installed on your site. - Export your existing products in their default language. The export file will contain those three columns generated by our tool - Duplicate that spreadsheet to edit the copy and bring the Spanish translations. For the three columns that we use, keep the value relative to the translation group, and adjust the other two to hold the language of the original products, and the language for the data in that clone of the spreadsheet. - Import first the spreadsheet for your products in the default, existing language, setting the import to update existing products. This will import the columns as post meta for the existing products. - After that, import the spreadsheet with your translated products. As this spreadsheet has those three columns with compatible values as the ones just imported to your existing products, our tool will be able to connect them back. - Run the WPML Export and Import processing, and that should bind together products with their translations, set proper languages, and remove all temporary data. Of course, make sure to test this on a test site first to make sure all works as expected. If you need any additional assistance, please create a ticket in our support forum on WPML.org.

Hi, Christoph! Thanks for pointing this out. The thing is, it was just a test "language" name that the video creator used. But I understand how this could be confusing in the video. So, actually, "Nuevo" (Spanish translation of this test language's name) should have been entered into column 4 titled "Translation (Spanish)". In any case, every column is clearly titled so I hope this detail didn't cause too much of an issue. :)

Hi! Yes, of course, in this case, you can translate the page "manually" and have different designs/content in different languages. This is explained in our documentation page, here: wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

Hi! All you have to do is send the content to translation again which will update the design of the 2nd language. And if you only changed the design and the content is the same, then only the design will be updated and translations will come from the translation memory.

The amount we give out allows 80% of our clients to completely translate their sites. If you need more words, they're really affordable and you own the translations (they're saved in your site's database, unlike some other translation plugins out there). Plus, WPML's translation memory makes sure that if you ever need to translate the same sentence/string of text again, you don't need to use credits for retranslation as everything is saved and reused from your translation memory.

I ended up building a plugin to fetch all custom Elementor widgets controls and generate this xml crap which should've been WPML's job to automatically pull them. I wonder how many support tickets and frustrations you caused with this. Not to mention your replies with "We can't help because your x,y,z plugin is not listed in our compatibilities list". That's awful. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Can you please tell me the whole scenario and why you needed to resort to this solution. I'm asking because WPML is fully compatible with Elementor itself and you don't need to register its widgets. However, there are tons of other plugin makers who create add-ons for Elementor and we provided this XML-based workaround for those whose author don't work with us on built-in integration. Can you please share a bit more context? Thank you!

Hi and thank you for the comment! Please note that even though both WordPress and WPML are today naturally running newer versions, what this video shows is still correct. WordPress menus still look like this and so do the manual menu translation and WPML's synchronization features.
