Or why do people feel the need to judge people who’s been at a job for years? Maybe some people are content and happy with where they are. I’ve been at my job for almost 4 years and I get judge for that which I don’t understand. “It’s always, you’re still at that job?” A job that has paid most of my debts a job that will pay my car off in less than a year. This job is paying my bills and has afforded me to take a vacation almost every year. So yes I’m still at that job 🤷🏽‍♀️

Judging is a hard word. Good question though. Specifically in Agile - what we do - we are change agents and need to see the industry and how things are done here and there before we can be realistically considered "any good" at our jobs. This is where we probably can "judge" someone who is presenting themselves as an "Agilist", yet they've been at the same job/company for 10+ years. I guess the angle of "Agile jobs" got lost somewhere there in the context, as it's important.

is to me these people do not general anxiety disorder. my housing depends on my job so i job hope I risk homelessness. I am also an introvert. It you make decent money and like your job just change companies makes no sense. when did the workers become so extraverted. I uses hop job more often when I lived with my parents because I did not fear becoming homeless.

Interesting perspective on 3-5 years. Do you think this applies to millennials as well? I'm seeing a lot of 1.5-2.5 years for FTEs in tech jobs in a Agile environment,

It's a great question and no, I don't think it's a "blanket recommendation" that accurately applies to all demographic, etc. I do believe that in what we - Agile transformation people - do, 3-5 years is probably the absolute maximum one should stay if they don't want to become stale or detached from the market and other pools of activity, outside of their comfort zone.

I was looking to start a project, searched "how to sprint 0", and while I was a little put off by a video with 800 views, your credentials speak for themselves in enabling you to make this a top notch quality video.

Hey, thanks for stopping by and for your feedback. Yes, social validation takes over the perception of content these days as "views are everything" (lol). No Sprint Zero is obviously a very purist approach, but that's the angle of what I'm trying to explain here. When setting up your project or body of work, break down your features into smaller chunks that your backlog will fill up with - Stories and Tasks - and plan with your team in such a way where the very first Sprint is seen as "useful", delivering something. IF you can, obviously. We don't operate in the vacuum of clean classrooms, which is why sometimes prep phases are required before we can start properly sprinting. I'm still a fan of seeing Sprint 1 as your first Sprint, not some excuse in the form of a "Sprint Zero". I hope this makes sense and helps you a bit.

But yeah- I'm definitely converted re: scrum sprint one. I think I ended up on KZbin researching sprint 0 because I never really got why installing your IDE was on the Jira board anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One thing I didn't mention clearly enough in the video is that there are often ways to tweak your self-presentation and CV to beat this factor of you staying at your old company for "too long"... A topic for another video perhaps!

Absolutely agree with your view. We could only wish calculating worth was all objective. Here in my country though, Agile is still new, it's not yet out in the textbook. A lot of employers are preferring young talent straight from the college or training their employees and internally placing them in Agile roles. The reason being there is a lot of customization companies are going forward while implementing Agile. This could actually be an opportunity or threat [mostly threat :-)] while applying for an agile specific role.

Thanks Abhishek, and great insight mate. If all the employers want is to hire cheap young talent and then shape them into whatever they want, that would definitely create very specific job market that's less keen to pay for externally obtained expertise over the years - including Agile. Must be tough for experienced professionals looking to change jobs... At the same time I agree that it could be an opportunity for people like yourself interested in Agile and probably having experience being then ready to respond to the local market demand when that inevitable need to hire "experts" arises as the companies realise that they can't just keep boiling on the inside without the influx of external knowledge.

Is a reasonable reduction in your expected remuneration a valid strategy to get more job leads and increase the actual chances of getting hired? I bet we all had different experiences that would speak for and against this point.
