Plants are not people 😂 the word cancelled is so strange to hear about a plant. I have three, and I love them. They're so pink and I love burgundy. They're alive. So you look after them.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreetАй бұрын
I think I made a pretty good case for why they aren’t great house plants however I have heard in recent years that some of the TC plants landing in big box stores are better quality, so that’s great. This video is going on three years old at this point. A lot can change in the plant world in that time. At the time this was made, PPP’s were going for several hundred dollars and were not good quality. It’s a totally fine plant if you can get it for $20 at a big box store.

That is such an informative video. I have so much anxiety over transfering plants to semi-hydro. I've recently purchased a bunch of Anthuriums and Alocasia's in baby size. And I need to know how to keep them alive, because in soil...they die on me pretty fast. Thank you!!!

i wish yt had a photo upload to the comments, the Noid mint i got but non-mint. i bought it because it was "deformed" its growing just fine, sorta, it put out a conjoined leaf segment, literally two leafs on the same node and the petioles are fused up to a point, so weird i love it, but the striations are curved even more than this one in the video and suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper deep almost to the center, maybe a few mms away from it, and its LARGE. i love my weird monstera buy

The demand issue? Yeah. It kills nice things. The resilience and needy issue? I don't agree. I water it, I put it in the window, it's great. Never a disease. My summer's hit 110F and the glass the leaves touch will burn. That's it. It got root bound, propagated without an issue, extra plants were given away, and one person complimented all the half-moon leaves. Always has a lot of pink in different patterns and ways in all of its leaves. It was $20 at a grocery store.

THANK YOU SO MUCH 🥹🌱 I just received a queen dark form seedling as well as a pallidiflorum narrow and an sp morona. Do you think that I should acclimate all of them the same way? I'm thinking since they're imported from Texas that the answer is yes. Also, do you use distilled water? I s that what you mean by the "right water"? I smashed that subscribe button so fast! Glad to have found you 💚

Nice! I’ve heard that the batches that have been coming out of TC in the last year or two are hardier than the ones that were coming out around when I made this. So that’s good. I see then on grocery stores all the time these days. Wish I could buy them all and time travel back to 2020, haha!

I absolutely love philodendrons but as far as variegation it’s not that important to me. Some of those plants are still expensive and with chances of reverting. I just don’t think it’s that serious and besides there’s plenty of plants that can provide the same look for so much cheaper pricing with stable variegation.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet2 ай бұрын
That’s so real. The good thing is these days, there are SO many types that used to be really expensive popping up in box stores so it’s much easier to try things out without being worried you’re going to lose an investment.

Interested to know where your info about the NSE Carla’s came from ? 🤔 hopefully reputable for you to mention it it in your video
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet2 ай бұрын
I have one and did a lot of research before I bought it on where the line came from and the. dealt with Enid directly when the plant I received never developed veins and she replaced it. I got it almost two years ago. It was a known issue that there was a bad batch of NSE Carla seedlings that ended up being bench hybrids, if you go back far enough in the forums, you’ll find people talking about it.

🔥Palmstreet is exploding w/ Anthuriums. This video helped me out A LOT w/ buying fm the industry that uses these names. Plant guy fm down under told their viewers not bother w/ names but that's a huge disadvantage b/c buyers would be at a lost or swindled if they didn't know what they were buying. Anthuriums basically are dog breeds.

@ChadGardenSinLA3 ай бұрын
Anthuriums are like dog breeds or agriculture. And they're being selectively bred for desired characteristics too. But as you eluded to, just like in agriculture/pet trade, there is Show quality, Breeder quality, and Pet quality. Known lines of champion breeds are highly coveted and aptly priced, but the puppy mill in town can give you the same breeds for the fraction of the price but the pups'lll be inferior in all ways to include vigor & health. Fortunately the ubiquity of TC has leveled the playing field and really put extremely rare plants in everyday peoples' homes 🙂 At this point I'd like to order a Purple-Pillow-Triangle-Leaf Anthurium w/ no veins showing.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet3 ай бұрын
That’s exactly right and a great analogy, and that purple pillow anthurium sounds beautiful! Hopefully we see some that look like that coming out soon.

I found 4 pink princesses in Home Depot for $19.99 and bought one, so I went back the next day, they were gone, so the demand still remains. The plants were well variegated, but I understand the variegation is unstable, so I plan to cut the reverted segments and propagate the pink cuttings - like I did to my marble queen.

Let's be honest, influencers only care about ridiculously expensive plants. The Pink Princess Philodendron was idolized by them for years when it was expensive. Now, that it's cheaper and anyone can buy it, it's suddenly no longer interesting, suddenly it has a bunch of problems, and so on and so forth. We're seeing this happen with other species too. You can see a pattern.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet4 ай бұрын
This video is almost two years old so no this sentiment is not “suddenly” now they they’re more accessible… they have been popping up in box stores for over a year. This was filmed back when they were still pretty pricey and I stand by it but at least now that they are more affordable, if you want to try them out and have a bad experience growing them, you’re only out a few bucks instead of a pretty penny. I actually saw about five decent sized ones with some pretty leaves at the grocery store today. It is a shame though because now that plants are so much cheaper, a lot of small businesses are the ones that closed and the big tissue culture operations are the ones making the money 🤷🏼♀️.
