Your notebook is a work of art in and of itself! So beautiful. Looks like an antique which is what I know you were going for. Definitely one to treasure when done. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with creating this.

Hello Sylvie ! Love your channel - became a new subscriber instantly ! Just want to say that your notebooks are SO SO lovely 🥰Just looking at them is such an inspiration !! At the same time your videos are very helpful and i took a lot of helpfull information and visual tips from them and incorporated to my own commonplace books. I have one problem though with which i struggle a little still - how to put my notes into a commonplace book when i'm reading multiple books at the same time. I am very eclectic in reading and often hop between books and also i try to commonplace after each chapter or two (mostly because i find it very daunting to do it all after whole book - it feels to me a bit overhelming to do whole books at the end. My readings are mostly non-fiction and so i have many many notes after the readout) Do you have any advice ? Should i maybe reserve some space for each book i read in my commonplace book ? (but then there is always a problem with how much and so on) In simple words i don't know what to do if i wanted to make notes into CPB from few books simultaneously. Thank you wholeheartedly in advance for any tip, Anne.

Hi, I’m from Brazil! I loved the video. I’m researching the commonplace book as a tool for organizing studies. I’ve tried a few times, but it hasn’t worked because I feel like it will end up disorganized and lost. For example, if I start studying an organization course or take notes from a book I'm reading, but then switch to another topic, when I want to review, everything will be separated. How can I manage this? Do you still recommend it? How can I access the book that teaches John Locke’s method?

Love your channel, that it is paper art without cutesy pastels, and the fact that you are focused on information and not the same self-help angle of many other videos on here! I wish KZbin had suggested this to me before I started multiple themed commonplace/repositories books this year. Might have to start one or two over. Would love to see future videos on how you approach structure so that the information and art fits neatly and looks like it was organized like a graphic designer importing content.

So I could keep a commonplace book just full of quotes I’ve underlined in books?
@journaldesylvieАй бұрын
Hello, you certainly can! 😉 CPB with your favorites wisdom quotes is a good and popular practice. However, Commonplace books can be dedicated to compile knowledge about any other topic of your interest. A subject that you wish to know in-depth. As for recording your notes, you can go digital, but I prefer the handwritten notes as it has its benefits in processing the information and enhancing your memory. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2qydI2ZbLGheJosi=Ssz4ycYF0ZB3t6N1 Thank you for your message 📖🕯

What a gorgeous book you made!! It is really stunning and it looks to me as the most beautiful history book. Making history more fun then boring, your book is the best thing I have seen ever. I love history, especially of the Great Masters, pitty you wrote the name of Vincent van Gogh wrong, my fav painter and Dutch like me. I have always had the idea of starting a study, but now I know what the most gorgeous and efficient way would be. I just strated this last week my first commonplace book, ofcourse all about art, but it is nothing like yours. I love what I have done so far, but your video gave me al the information I needed. I have seen so many videos about commonplace books, most are just writing with evey now and then some pictures etc, But your gorgeous book is such a great inspiration. especially all the info around the margins, so helpfull. I am on my way, love what I have done and with your video I know how I can make it even more me then it allready is. Thank you so much for this great video, have a nice day.

@journaldesylvie3 ай бұрын
Good question 😉 My commonplace book is mainly for general knowledge where the Cabinet of Curiosities is specifically for collected or observed specimen/curiosities . However, a Commonplace Book is a holistic space where you compile general wisdom AND/OR you can choose to dedicate it for a specific topic of your interest. In other words, I consider all my notebooks a CPB in one way or another 📖🕯

Thanks for the very useful video. I noticed the page layouts are beautiful. I thought the pictures were a.helpful addition to whoever reads your CP book. Where did you originally get the idea to create a common place book? How do you decide what you want to learn? What will you do with all.your learning and records of learning? I noticed there was no signs of errors like lines through words or arrows to look somewhere else for more information. Do you create a rough draft first? Do you made photos from books or magazines into your CP book? Do you have favourite reference sources? Sorry but I must ask, why don't you just look at an encyclopedia.when you want to revisit past learnings ? Are you reinventing the wheel? What notebooks do you use for your CP? What do yo think of binder paper for a CP?

Because you said you add the Latin names of the species it occured to me that i could use this to expand my vocabulary in foreign languages. I find i lack the words for specific bird or tree species. I think what I have is my great grandfathers sisters common place book. She died young and never had children and he kept her book and gave it to my grandma who gave it to my mom who gave it to me. She wrote lots of quotes and poems. She wrote important dates and things that happened in those dates. It isn’t a journal in my opinion but I wasn’t sure what to call it.
