Those are very lovely quilts. I know how to do this but I had never thought of crocheting around a quilt. I'm eager to get started on a new project with crochet. Thxs.

How are you cutting the hexagons, are you using a template first and then doing your 1/4” lines?
@ElsieGraysАй бұрын
We laser cut our Hexie kits, but yes you could use a template to cut your fabric 😊

I always made my quilts on my machine but I like to make one by hand. I love the way you show it to us in an easy way. So I think I start a small project first by hand sewing. Thanks.

I love big stitch hand quilting. I did the majority of my quilts this way as soon as i saw that it was done. I like more vintage looking quilts eg: hexagon's and they look even more vintage with big stitch quilting. It looks like your big stitches are about 1/8" long. I did mine about 1/4" long.
@ElsieGraysАй бұрын
Hi Diana, I like to experiment with different size stitches but somewhere between yours and mine always looks effective😊

I would love to know the size of your hexagon please.
@ElsieGraysАй бұрын
Hi Ann, The size of the hexagons are cut at 2,1/4" on this particular quilt. Depending on how much turnover you like to work with your finished size will be somewhere between 1,3/4" and 1,7/8". 😊

How do you hold the quilt if you are working a full-sized quilt
@ElsieGraysАй бұрын
I just scrunch it up in my hands and work a section at a time. can be easier working from the outside in.😊

That is how I did my entire grandmother’s flower garden quilt. I didn’t use EPP templates. I also cut all my pieces by hand.

Thank you! This is a wonderful technique. I'm new to EPP which is rather tedious. I've tried both gluing and stitching. I love making smaller hexies and will figure out how to use them later. Is the fabric with little houses still available? I'll check your website.
@ElsieGrays2 ай бұрын
Hi Kay, that's great to hear and I had exactly the same thoughts when I first started. This way is so much quicker. I'm unsure on which fabric you are referring too. Can you let me know what print you have seen on there and I can check our stock. I do have a few options left and may not be on our website. Thanks Jo😊

What a succinct video…so nice to be able to integrate crocheting with quilting. What is your favourite weight of cotton or yarn you use? What is your favourite stitch/pattern? I can’t wait to try this.
@ElsieGrays2 ай бұрын
Hi Denise, My favourite yarn is 8ply cotton as it crochet's up quickly and gives a nice finish. I don't have a favourite stitch or pattern as such and like to experiment with different types. Thanks so much for your message😊

Brilliant!! Is there a reason your binding is the same as your backing?
@ElsieGrays3 ай бұрын
I just like it matching because you pull the binding all the way over 😁
@dianafromaustralia32443 ай бұрын
So the binding is really a “facing”?! I use a tailor’s awl to gently poke a small hole through the fabric to help the threaded needle go through easier! 🌸
@ElsieGrays3 ай бұрын
Using this new method you can just sew the back stitch on easily

@ElsieGrays3 ай бұрын
Hi Kathy, I assemble mine in a grandmothers garden pattern, then add two or three hexies to join my next grandmothers garden. You can do it in rows but I find this the most effective way.😊

I tried to learn to hand quilt with the tiny quilting needles and we aimed for 12 stitches per inch. My grandmother and her contemporaries could do it, but I never got good at it. They sat around a large frame and put one hand under the quilt to guide the needle back up to the top. I am excited to try your method. Thanks for showing us how you do it! There is really nothing like a hand quilted quilt. I have done many on my domestic sewing machine and they are nice too, but the hand quilted are very special.

Hi Elizabeth, I am new to quilting..my question is. Why are the papers necessary?
@ElsieGrays5 ай бұрын
The papers are used to achieve nice neat corners. It appears like it’s more difficult but is much easier and effective than other methods.😊
