If female solo go there is it dangerous ?
@natnomad18 сағат бұрын
Many Lao women go there for the weekends. It is safe but the thing that one needs to look out for is never give your passport to anyone. And don't just go on a date with a random dude there.

In Spain the price for a whole chicken is 3.5€. 12 eggs cost here 2.20€, You have to take into account than instead of mangoes or dragonfruit we buy apples, pears or banana, The cost of living in LP is cheaper than in spain but food is not the most important. But the costs of renting, taxes, gas.... are much more expensive than in LP
@natnomadКүн бұрын
I see. That kind of surprised me that chicken in Spain is cheaper than in Laos. And the funny thing is Laos raises a lot of chicken too. One thing that is different in Laos compared to Spain is we don't pay income tax(employment) only businesses pay tax. But again, most Lao people earn less than $200/month. It would be delicious if we have to pay tax on top. I miss the old time when a noodle soup used to cost 10,000 Kip or $0.40 in today's money. Thank you again for your support 😊🙏

Hi Nat! Thank you for showing us the price comparisons of everyday groceries. I'll be spending around $150 for this week's groceries here in the US. Fruits and veggies are always expensive during the off-season. Meat is always expensive. Eggs and diary are becoming more expensive because of new regulations in my area. I also agree that buying groceries is much cheaper than dining at restaurants. Since the pandemic, I rarely eat out anymore. Great video, and I hope you made something yummy with the chicken. 😊
@natnomad2 күн бұрын
The chicken soup was really good. I added lots of herbs into it. And my brother loved it too. Looking at the price of goods I miss the old time when the whole big chicken used to cost only 70,000 just 4 years ago. Now everything has to be weigh. Fruits in Laos are getting more expensive too. Also a lot of groceries products are impored from our neighboring countries. Let see if I can raise my own cows for milk haha. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.🙂

I rode up that hill last year on a crf250, that particular bend was not finished getting paved yet, it was still dirt, very dangerous part of the road

Yes, very dangerous. I wouldn't dare take this road on the rainy day

The chicken and the milk are expensive. A big roasted chicken at Sam's Club Or Costco cost $5 in the US, however, skinless chicken breast cost $2.28/lb. Other items look OK.

That's what I thought. In London chicken was cheaper than in Laos. Maybe they're not free-range. I don't know.

The only way to increase the value of the kip is to increase the exports to other countries. Laos need to raise the wages for workers. If the workers get paid higher, it will beat the inflation. Higher monthly salary is a requirement to lower the inflation rate.
@natnomad2 күн бұрын
Totally agree. Laos importing more than exporting each year. The grocery products are more expensive than in Thailand due to the tax. Minimum wage had been increased a bit. From 2 million to 2.5 million but that's only $120 per month.
@meksavanhmanivong24934 күн бұрын
That’s still very cheap for the lot’s! 👍🇱🇦

I retired with a pension and social security of $8500/m here in US. Always wonder if that is enough to live comfortable there in Laos or Thailand?
@LaoSoftware3 күн бұрын
I'm also an American citizen but I'm only 50 years old. I've been researching Laos for retirement options. Laos is a poor country. They lack the modern infrastructures like paved roads and modern hospitals. If you have a medical emergency or fire emergency outside the capital, nobody will be coming to save you. Thailand and Japan are better. They both have world class medical care. Thailand has beautiful islands and nice beaches. Japan has Okinawa. It's a tropical island that reminds me of Hawaii if you like warm weather and beautiful beaches. You must do your research and pick the right choice for your health.
@natnomad2 күн бұрын
With your budget I think you can live comfortably in a better alternative country maybe Thailand or Vietnam? Laos is a cheap country to live in and with your budget you can live like a king. However I have to agree with @LaSoftware that healthcare in Laos is very basic. A lot of those who can afford it fly to Thailand for treatment when they have serious health issues. I mean Vientiane capital has a few good hospitals but not as good as Thailand.
@marcgoldbergdogtrainer4 күн бұрын
I’m sure it’s a more natural chicken than we get here but I get a fully cooked 1.4kg chicken for $5 at Sam’s Club. The fruit is definitely cheaper in Lao.
@LaoSoftware4 күн бұрын
At the farmer's market, the produce is all natural and organic. The vegetables and fruits are grown by local farmers not big companies. Big companies only care about the profits and paying their shareholders in the stock market like the USA.
@marcgoldbergdogtrainer4 күн бұрын
@ I actually agree provided that ground and water is not contaminated with heavy metals as in parts of China. We actually get terrible fruit in this country. What we see here is what would be thrown away in Mexico and SE Asia.

Thanks so much for this video. I'm heading to Luang Prabang in a few months and saw a pic of the view at Nong Khiaw so I wanted to figure out how to get up there for one night with my camera and get some sunset shots. Thanks for making it simple
@natnomad4 күн бұрын
Thanks for your greetings. Nong Khiaw one of the most beautiful places in Laos. You may need at least 2 days for that because it takes 4-5 hrs ride from Luang Prabang by local bus or van. I'd recommend booking your ticket through the tour agency so they can pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the bus station. If you were to do it like a local, you have to take a taxi to the northern bus station and it is quite far from town.
@RonanMcGurk4 күн бұрын
@natnomad Thanks so much for the response and advice Nat. I'm going to be in LP for 6 days and obviously need to do the falls and the temples and the museums, plus a day at the Mandalao elephant sanctuary so hopefully I can make it all work to at least get to the Som Nang viewpoint for some sunset pictures Would love to be able to reach out if I have a question that your fantastic videos or Google don't cover. If so, can a Canadian buy you lunch in September?

A lot of regrets,, I wish I would stay there a lot longer .. due to my wife whining we only stay for 2 night .. 😢she say it didn’t feel like vacation but she say she had the best ever larb at the night market .. best ever deep fry spring roll that was recommended by the Museum Inn where we stay at..and the best water fall she ever seen that’s was a hour drive away
@natnomad4 күн бұрын
It is a shame that you did not stay longer. Luang Prabang can be a bit overwhelmed sometimes. I am glad though that your wife enjoyed the food and the waterfall. I hope next time you can stay longer and explore for more. And perhaps consider coming during the low season from September to October as it is not too hot and not too crowded.

Guess that cancelling the VISA policy is an great thing when taking account how especially Chinese groups tend to treat Lao people like peasants who are below them.

It was quite overwhelming with too many tourists a few months ago. Tour groups are known for being difficult to deal with. I am glad the visa has been revoked.
