It was great meeting you in person. You are such a kind and caring person even nicer in person. The chicken you got was very delicious, I took the leftover with me on the train back to Vientiane.😊yummy

Thanks Nat for showing the lovely town. I grew up in the house across the street from the Prince’s palace, and used to take my little sister running up and down the hill.

Late to the show here. Will definitely need more time in Luang Brabang. I miss it already. Yes, that coconut ice cream shop has the best coconut ice cream I’ve tasted. Looking forward to our return.

Luang Prabang looks so peaceful and beautiful. I’m actually planning to visit there next year. Thanks for the ice cream shop recommendation! I searched it, and it looks really delicious. At 28:11, the new banknotes confused me too. I’m colorblind, so I can barely tell them apart. When I put the bills in my wallet, I have to organize them by denomination, otherwise, I’ll get confused when trying to use them. Can I ask you a question? If I visit Luang Prabang around June-July, will there still be some air pollution? I just got back from Bangkok last week, and it feels like the burning season came early this year.
@natnomad
@natnomad 16 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for browsing. The banknotes are indeed confusing with the colours. Only have to look at the numbers. June-July is much better in terms of the smoke compared to March -May. But it will still be very hot though. But hey there's always a nice ice cream shop for that hehe. Welcome to Laos next year😊

Walking Nat, with all that walking you're sure to break your shoes quickly. You have to be very afraid of heights to go along the motorcycle lane on the bridge, it seemed dangerous to me. Stay safe.

I am fascinated with buddhism in SE Asia, golden buddha statues, pointed roof temples, golden stupas, nagas, and monks wearing orange kasaya. Chinese buddhism and SE asian buddhism are totally different denominations. Laos is a buddhist country. I saw monks accepted alms in your video. I am courious whether the goverment subsidize temples and monks in laos?
@natnomad
@natnomad 16 күн бұрын
Hehe, as someone from Theravada Buddhist culture, I also found Mahayana Buddhism interesting. Different robe colors and the temple is different from ours too. The government doesn't contribute to the monks here. They are relying on local people who provide them basic necessities.

ໂດຍ, ສະບາຍດີ. ຂອບໃຈທີ່ຄອຍຕິດຕາມເດີ . I hope you'll come visit your hometown someday. It's fascinating to learn that you used to be a monk and lived in Wat Phonphao, especially during that time when Sadhu Saisamout was an abbot. I used to read about his story during our Vipassana retreat there.

Hellooo, I decided to extend my stay in Luang Prabang because a woman in a coffee shop recommended the lantern festival to me. Now I'm trying to find more about the historical and cultural background of the festival in order to take it in fully, but I didn't find much. Can you recommend any resources?
@natnomad
@natnomad 5 күн бұрын
Hi, I'm glad you will get to see this festival. It is the most beautiful time of the year. For the background story maybe consider visiting the tourism information center office by the end of the night market. Or visit Vat Phapai temple. Some monks speak English, so maybe they can give you some information. Enjoy the festival. I will miss it again 😔
