Thanks I'm a low light user. I've been using Nite Ize for a few yrs. I stopped bringing lantern and head lamps. This looks good and if I see one I'll add it to my kit. Small, light and rechargeable, like the Nite Ize but brighter. Even the NI are usually on the low setting. The only time I want more light is when I'm in a campground and other campers are blinding me with their RV porch lights and 6' high bone fires.

I used to use the Pocket Rocket, but I switched to the Jet Boil Flash because I found that the places we were backpacking didn't have a lot of flat spots and I had the pot fall off a time or two and with my kids, spilling hot water was a concern. But I got a Toaks 750 and BRS for times where I needed to save weight and space. While the BRS/Toaks combo work well for far less money, I still find the Jet Boil more convenient to use because its easier to handle while hot, the lid stays on, its more fuel efficient and more stable in uneven terrain. But now they have the Jet Boil Stash which is only 7.1oz, so while it doesn't compete with BRS/Toaks on price, I am thinking it might be the best of both worlds feature to weight-wise. Another thing I find intriguing about the Stash is that the pot and lighter can attach to the inside of the lid so those things are not contacting the pot. I have gotten rust in my pot before from the fuel can sitting in the pot.

The Olight's suck and were highly frowned upon at my police department because of their proprietary magnetic charging cord. Couldn’t disagree more. The Zero Pump is a major upgrade to any of the other pumps Flextail sells. For one, it’s a better quality piece. It’s made meticulously from aluminum. The detail is impressive. It is lighter and more compact. I don’t need the lantern. And $50 is very reasonable. And finally I’ve carried the Zero pump on countless trips in my pack, my pocket, and various other places with no issues of it coming on. Totally bogus claim. Conjecture based on opinion is unfair and misleading. I’m a huge fan of the Zero having used it extensively the past year. One of my favorite accessories. It’s quality and I love owning it. It feels solid and isn’t a big chunk of plastic. I turn it on and it comes to life. It does what it’s intended to do, fill up my mattress quickly and efficiently. All my fellow backpackers are jealous when I use it. I’ve also used it with my Vargo Ti Grill set up and it works amazing to keep the flames hot. There is no question it’s the best mattress pump out there.

@DadCamps28 күн бұрын
Hmm hadn't heard that arguement. Still a bit of a stretch IMO to be printing 1.2 in giant print on the pump. And yeah if you don't need a lantern and don't mind the extra expense, then why not. But that's kinda my point. Its a higher end luxury item, not the be all end all of "GOAT" of pumps.
@davidfink781928 күн бұрын
@@DadCamps I could swear I read when they were launching that the pitch was if you get the zero light, you just use that battery in the pump and if you use the flextail pad you don’t need the adapter. Any pump is definitely a luxury that I wouldn’t have sprung for in my younger days. But now that I’m in my 40s, I spring for lighter stuff so I can bring some luxury. It’s nice to kick back in my chair while the pad inflates without me. But I’d agree it’s not the GOAT.

I started backpacking with a similar flashlight for similar reasons, but I went with a Olight Baton4. It’s less than 5oz. It has similar features, but no lantern mode, and high is 1300 lumens. But the best part is that the battery will run the moonlight mode for 30 days constant. So its more than enough to last an extended backpacking trip without a charge. I just clip to my hat, or the inside of my tent, or I use the magnet.

I have only limited use for a headlamp, but when i have used and needed it, i would way prefer the longer lasting traditional headlamp. If i was not going for aggressive 14,000 foot climbs started at 2-3am requiring 3-4+ hours of light, i would maybe consider it.

This is great! I do something similar with my Nemo Fillo, in that for backpacking trips I remove the memory foam (the weight is actually significant) and instead stuff my down jacket inside on top of the air bladder. Being in the Northwest as well I find I always bring my down jacket. The total loft is probably not quite as high as your final solution, but it works for me. Straps hold it to the pad. I still like the Fillo's foam for other applications, as I think it's comfortable, but If I had thought of your solution before I bought the Fillo I think I would have done what you did. As you say, the problem with strapping the pillow to the pad is that I would like to move it askew to tuck it into my chin more, as I turn from side to side. Good work! edit: Now that I think of it, there must be something I can add to the bottom of the pillow to keep it from slipping, like a couple pieces of non-slip cabinet liner, or dots of silicone, or something.

Love my Mighty Mo. For years I have watched everyone debate this point. Here's my take and why the Jetboil is almost identical to any other cook kit. Ok, It has a pot, a bowl, a coozie, a lid, a stove, and gas. Even if you use the Brs stove, you buy a pot, a coozie, a lighter and a can of gas. Not going to be a bunch of size difference period. Weight... ok, maybe, but with Jetboil you get a superior system in the wind and a much more stable system. Yes, all I do is boil water. In my opinion... why would you want the added "weight that everyone is worried about" in a 3lb leg of lamb, on a backpacking trip? Just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing.👴
@DadCampsАй бұрын
Thanks for watching! Not sure I get the leg of lamb reference. What's that from?

@DadCamps actually the honeymooners with Jackie Gleason had me on leg of lamb. But basically I was being a smart ass about all the fancy cooking and food that folks do or want to do on backpacking excursions. Me just being silly and enjoying your vid. Thanks again.
@thomasmusso1147Ай бұрын
An unashamed plug for the Jetboil .. and why not, it is a good product. Any cooker used outdoors should have an accompanying separate windscreen. The obsession (especially in the USA) with 'boil time and weight' .. 🙄. Boil time is not necessarily linked directly to fuel efficiency. A lower heat setting will more often than not, result in better fuel efficiency .. albeit taking a bit longer. The BRS, by all accounts enjoys a good reputation. If it were me, I would settle for the BRS, a Pot, Canister Footpiece and a Collapsible Wind Screen. But then, I already have a 'Camping Gaz 206 Bluet' Stove w Integrated Wind Screen that I bought back in the '70's and still use regularly. The Gas Cylinders, I can get down the road at my local Food Store and just about anywhere in Europe. Cost / Gram of Fuel Content .. the cheapest I can find. It does the job .. very well at that .. and .. it's paid for. A good review .. thanks. Question if I may please? Why the reverse baseball cap indoors?
@DadCampsАй бұрын
Agreed but I don't think the average backpacker typically brings a windscreen. That's one of the points I was trying to convey here, is just how valuable they really are. As for the hat - just lazily covering up my messy hair. Haha!

@DadCampsАй бұрын

Your multiple people scenario doesn't make sense. It's cheaper and lighter to buy 3 BRS stoves. Like you said, everyone has to carry a cup anyway.
@DadCampsАй бұрын
But then you'd also need 3 cans of fuel. If you're all sharing one can of fuel it makes a small benefit of using the JB by improving the boil times.
@davidfink781922 күн бұрын
My wife and kids aren't going to carry their own stove and boil their own water, so the efficiency of the jet boil helps me boil water for them. We usually eat out of the bag so we only need one pot. They drink out of their Nalgene's.

I say the same thing about a little flat pack twig stove v gas. No fuel to carry and it’s totally under 150 grams. I don’t know about you folks in the states but it makes a lot of sense here in Australia as there’s so much fuel just laying around that mostly you don’t even have to get up off your sit pad to keep it going. No good for high summer due to total fire bans but that’s true of gas burners too.
@DadCampsАй бұрын
