The vocals slayed. I'm a bit mixed on the actual portrayal, because Roxie, to me, is a selfish, delusional, spoiled brat who can be cutesy at times, but otherwise fakes her sweetness and innocence. And Brandy (who's still a great actress) just radiates natural sweetness which made her a great fit for Cinderella, but I feel like the cynical side of her portrayal here was missing. Plus she just is a phenomenal vocalist, while I think Rene's Roxie had a voice that fit the idea better - not a bad singer or anything, but not a head-turning voice like Brandy's got. But... at the end of the day, I still gotta stan Brandy.

What a tragic loss!!! I loved her in, "Annie" and she was a HUGE talent all throughout her life ❤ Love that she was still choreographing in her final years, also - she never lost her passion!

This may be the lowest energy, least involved, poorly choreographed, terribly costumed version of this I have ever seen. Hardly any syncopation with the "dancers." Vocals...really not bad. Great for the most part, lead blonde needs to tighten up diction. She sounded slutty and lazy, not jazzy and sexy. This just was not that crisp. Not that great!

She sings the hell out of it but she's too innocent and wide-eyed. Roxie is self-absorbed and conniving.

From the quote of the 1927 original "You killed a man, --don't you even feel sorry?" That husband was so distraught in that movie, the anguish knowing who his wife really was.

THank you for posting this. Dancers always make it look so easy and effortless, but something like this shows how much work, memory, counting and years of skill go into learning something choreography quickly. One of my fondest memories was seeing this Chicago the year it opened on Broadway, with Bebe Neuwirth. Ann Reinking had left the show by then, but Bebe was hilarious in the role and such a phenomenal dancer. I still have the cast album to relive the experience.

Not really, the whole stage play felt super amateurish especially those guys around her who look like they can barely breath. She has too much force in the voice, when it's meant to be more dream like, mixed with self absorbed love. She's singing like a typical musical lead, but not an amazing musical lead like christian from Moulin Rouge or other examples that stand out. That's the problem with you people, you take anything good and let it soar, the truly outstanding are equalled to the good or else you'll offend the lowers, and the DANGER of that is that they're be gaslit into thinking they are amazing where they are. There's no "need to be like the greats" feeling they have, so these performers don't feel like they need to work efforted and harder. Also these plays never get the era down, especially in the theater which is meant to emphasize unique traits of a story. It just sounds impossibly contemporary, her hair and outfit is reminsicent to the late 1940s early 1950s and it just makes me think they couldn't give a shit about making the 1920s come to life. Good singer, beautiful, but not perfect amazing.
