Listening to this feels like listening to myself. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and I’ve been feeling awful and depressed, completely lost on what to do with my days. It feels like this will never change, but I’m about to start medication, hoping it helps. Thank you for sharing your story

great video, i would also love to see how you set up the point system. examples of tasks for levels, how many task per level, what point values did you find productive for you and why. if this was an app, it would be amazing!

What’s up Blake, question. How do you put down the point system? Like on a calendar or something, an do you have like a chart of what each thing gives you points wise for completion?? I have something like this and just like you I was trying to be prefect lol. I need a little help as well.

Such excellent tips! I found that switching up the format can help too; for a period I tried only making face-on videos but the setup time was wayyy too much, so then I started doing a combination of face-on and voice-only videos

Bro I dont understand what was up / what is up with teachers and neuro kids. Like these teachers shouldn't of been telling you you had no potential or writing you off. Even when you are overworked a a teacher (as I was) an all that stuff ... there is no reason to go out of your way to bash kids. Even in my most stressful moments I still loved helping kids and helping them succeed. Sure there were those annoying/act up kids but that is just kids. You're a grown adult ... you picked this job ... help them...

I had a similar but different enough experience, but no need to go into the specifics of why I was missed, just that I was missed and there was a singular pivotal moment in my life which fundamentally damaged my future and it happened in early middle school. I was failing. Horribly. Before this one year of middle school I was a straight A student but suddenly the curriculum was more demanding and I couldn't focus, couldn't care, couldn't understand the why of it and without the why I couldn't engage. Eventually this lead to meetings with teachers, councelor, and parent/teacher conferences. Instead of help, instead of recognizing I had the skills I just was not able to function in the public education system as it was, they blamed me. And I learned one very simple lesson from this which set me up for failure for the next 20 years of my life until I hit rock bottom and got a diagnosis; I learned that I needed to do good enough that no one notices you. I learned to perfectly cater my performance to be above average, but not good enough to be praise worthy or be recommended for AP classes. And this single lesson has tainted my entire life and impacts everything I do. I hit rock bottom in my early 30s and after several breakdowns I finally committed to seeing a psychologist to get my diagnosis and it wasn't until that first dose of adderall that I understood that life could be anything other than what I had lived with all my life. It's not too late to make changes, and I'm improving rapidly day by day, month by month, but seriously. Those lessons you learn by being undiagnosed as a child can and often will have lasting, extremely powerful impacts in your adulthood. It is very VERY important you reflect on that and work on it. You probably learned the wrong lessons.

I feel like adhd right now is almost what depression was regarded as 10-15 years ago. Like it’s coming out of a horrible history and actually getting talked about as something to consider but there’s still negative stigma around it possibly keeping those who would benefit from seeking solace from it. I’m curious to see where things could be in the next 10 years for people and adhd considerations.

ADHD fucKING sucks. People think it's a mild non issue that is overly exposed in our culture, but untreated ADHD can destroy lives. I willed myself through because I also have a personality disorder that compensated - obsessive compulsive PD, but all of the emotional dysregulation, mood swings and impulsivity? They were always beyond me and cost me 20 year long friendships, romantic relationships, and my health.

I appreciate this video. I think another video idea for you would be to describe your process for assigning points to both tasks and rewards. You mentioned that the scale of points wasn't correct to begin with, what was your paradigm or mental model for creating the correct reward to task difficulty system? I'm thinking I might do this for myself, but have no idea where to start, and as you know, when there's no entry point, there's no way I'm doing it. On a side note, as a fellow dabbling youtuber, you have excellent presentation, camera presence, and visuals. Your subscriber numbers are criminally low. Keep working hard, and I believe you will see the views and subscribers go up.

@@ablakeslife Your channel is set up for success. You have an excellent catalogue of similar topic videos that offer good value. Once some one stumbles across your videos, you'll find that they watch a bunch of other ones. It'll only take 1 video to perform above average to really move your channel forward. I recently (self diagnosed) realized I've had ADHD my whole life, but was able to overcome it in childhood because of above average intelligence. Since I've realized why I've been this way my whole life I've been seeking out videos for methods to improve my situation. Clearing mental clutter, getting better sleep, and exercising I believe are the keys I need. Your videos filled my niche interest perfectly. I know what it's like to make videos that seem like they don't make the impact you hope they do. But you should know I'm a real a person, and the effort you've made has improved my personal life in a positive way, so thank you. Your video quality is on point, your thumbnails are excellent as well. If I were to suggest anything it would be perhaps topic choices. Check out the biggest channels in your niche and find out what videos performed well above the rest (recently) and then consider putting your own spin on the topic. I watched several different channels before finding a channel and style that meshed with my learning and preferences. While my video catalogue isn't deep, I've got a lot of information and experience in content creation and have a video that well outperformed my channel size. If you ever want to chat in messages or something I can share my experience if you feel it's any value to you. My discord handle is same as my channel name. Keep up the great work!

Hey there, friend! As strange as it may sound, I think we’re made for each other. You’ve got great content-a solid script, good editing, lighting, and sound, and you speak well. I’d like to invite you to join my project-it’s a new channel about mountaineering and thrilling stories, and we’re already seeing some success (one of our videos is about to reach over half a million views). I’ve put together a good team; we have a writer and an editor, but we’re really missing someone on camera to bring these stories to life. Working on our project won’t take up much of your time, and it could be a great opportunity to try yourself out in a different niche on KZbin. Are you interested in this offer?

This sounds good. Very easy to add to my current system. I have one question, though. How do you decide how many points rewards are worth?
@ablakeslife
@ablakeslife 2 ай бұрын
Sure! I decide how many points rewards are worth based on two factors: difficulty and impact. Harder or more time-intensive tasks get higher points, as do tasks that significantly contribute to my long-term goals. I also tweak point values as I go to keep them motivating, aiming for a balance where earning rewards feels like a real accomplishment.

@ of course man keep it up! A lot people think oh I’m going to post this banger video and it’s well edited and everything but then if it gets low views it sucks and a lot of people stop. I think the way I’m seeing things work is there’s a certain balance between quality and quantity. Quantity so you can put out as much shots as you can while maintaining a certain level of quality. The more quantity, the more opportunities. Once you have a solid audience watching you, I’d say focusing more on quality would be good but not to let go of consistenty. Keep it up man 🙏

So I started my KZbin channel several years ago and was posting regularly and it went nowhere. Then about 2 and a half years ago I changed up my content and started posting again every week with one goal in mind: To make money. However the twist was not exactly to make money from KZbin, but to make money doing anything that wasn't my normal 40 hour a week job. Example: Doordash and make a video about it. At the end of the day I landed on the tried and true method of just investing in US Bonds and Blue Chip dividend paying companies (like Coke-a-Cola and Verizon). The fact that I was making a video every week made me open up the brokerage and put $70 or how much ever I could and invest. Also set a goal and commit as well as be accountable to that goal. Now at the end of the 2 and a half years I'm still not monetized or gotten any sponsorships, but the habit of investing and filming a video every week has defiantly put me down the path of being able to quit my job. So at the end of the day, in a round-about sort of way, it all worked out.

Hi Blake. I discovered you through /r/NewTubers a long time ago. (It was in a feedback thread, I think.) The first video I watched from you was about why someone should start a KZbin channel. (At the time, I actually hadn't started my channel yet, but I've wanted to do so for many MANY years. It was always a dream of mine, but I was scared.) In that video, you highlighted a couple of points about why starting a channel could be great: (a) the discipline you could cultivate by making videos consistently, and (b) having a digital portfolio to show potential employers. I had never thought about those before, but I always kept those two points in mind. Your video + a lot of other factors in my life may have been the last subconscious push I needed to start my channel. I started uploading (this account) 4 months ago, and it has genuinely changed my life. It's the most rewarding creative outlet I've ever had, and I am having so much fun with everything. I just wanted to let you know the real, tangible impact that you had. Those pointers that you laid out all those months ago may have led to me taking that leap of faith. It makes me so happy that you're still uploading and continuing to help others with your videos. Hope you keep inspiring. :)

Wow, this absolutely made my day! It’s incredible to hear that my video played even a small role in helping you take that leap. Starting a channel takes courage, and I’m so glad you found the discipline and creative outlet you were looking for. The fact that you're finding it so rewarding now is everything I hope for when I put out videos like that. This is all you - your dedication and passion have gotten you this far. Keep going, and don’t hesitate to reach out if I can support you along the way. Thanks for sharing this with me, and I’m rooting for you! 🙌

Being a KZbinr is pretty much like the best job ever. It's like running business, and you just need to offer your viewers what they need or want. Starting channel can be tough, but there are tools and services (like a little bit of Famester for example), which can massively help to kick start your channel and pretty much you won't need to worry about algorithms ever again.
