Have not been there in a while but it seems that the whole of Arlington is being torn town and rebuilt.

Really an ugly building and nice to see that go. Unfortunately, being under the flight path of Reagan, horrible place to put up a condo building.

Is the refrigerant gas removed from old units or just vented to air to destroy ozone layer.
@JohnZWetmoreКүн бұрын
It is required to remove the refrigerant gas before demolition, and most contractors do. It is usually pretty obvious when refrigerant gas is left in the system. You get condensation when the coolant lines are broken and the gas escapes and decompresses, as seen in this demolition: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWHLg2yLlrKpj7c

I always thought it was a cool looking building 😢 Building taller= more tax revenue and profit for the landlord, so I get it.

These videos are awesome! I love watching stuff get demolished. The part that cracks me up is every time there’s a guy with the hose to knock down the dust, he’s usually spraying an area that doesn’t need to be hosed down. The guy in this video wasn’t too bad but most are like a 4yo with the garden hose.

Again another great video, John. I was hoping to see it from the start, but I know that sometimes you can not be there when they actually begin.

I had hoped to be there when they took out the overhang in front, but missed it. I went up there half a dozen times, and only once were they using the high reach. It's a bit of a trek to Baltimore, so I couldn't check on it as often as places closer to Washington.

@@JohnZWetmore I totally understand, Mr. John. And yes that is a trek. You do what you have to do and I appreciate that very much. Keep up the good work! Bill

I know a lot of people are saying why didn't they just go full force on this building. There is another building ATTACHED to the right of the building. One wrong yank could compromise the integrity of the attached building. Thats why they are being delicate. Its not a stand alone!!

I’m honestly impressed by how that machine is able to take care of those steel beams, especially since the company would probably have a pair of the same shears that are on the Volvo machine that appears a couple of times throughout the demo for the high reach machine?

Man this hurts to watch. Every Friday/Saturday night when I was in Middle school back in the early 2000s this was the place to be! The cement area out front of the theatre was PACKED! So many wonderful memories trying to sneak into R movies, hooking up with girls and making new friends happened here😢 It was a different time..

Took a peek on StreetView... yeah, that was a thoroughly nondescript office building. I used to work in a building a block over from this; my building at least made an attempt at architecture.

A total waste of resources. CC2 was a state-of-the-art office building with raised floors that could have been a data center. AOL designed it that way, but the new owners chose to demolish it for "reasons."

That was a really solid brick house, old 4704. It looks like it was bricks outside of cement blocks. Definitely looked tornado-proof (well, not the windows, maybe but...). SUCH a shame- that was a damn well made house!

You gotta love this Jurassic Park-style house destruction! Seriously, though, when I watch skillfully operated heavy machinery like this, I'm always impressed. The term "Brick Wall" is typically a metaphor for something extremely solid. With a little flick of a lever inside the cab - CRUNCH- SMASH-TOPPLE -easy peasy. That shovel can just pass right through a house like it's not there. Quite impressive.

This looks like another case where they removed the roof membrane and insulation before starting the structural demo. It's most clear at 8:05 where you see the gravel sliding off the metal decking with nothing under the gravel. There are fragments of the membrane still on the parapet. You can see the difference at 36:55, where they didn't remove anything under the floor tiles of the roof deck. It must be worthwhile to keep all that out of the debris from the structural demo. At 7:52 -- is that a great demonstration of a "curtain wall" construction hanging there in space? Are they demolishing the parking structure? I was surprised to see them hauling out sections of floor slabs if they are going to demo the whole thing.
