Outstanding. Your efforts are well rewarded in this one. Were you able to see the aurora in person or was it something you saw on the footage afterwards?
@CottonBud18 күн бұрын
Thank you. It didn't look anything like as impressive with the naked eye - in fact I thought the big green belt in the vid was just a bank of light grey cloud at first. This is no doubt due to the fact that human vision is monochrome in low light, but the camera amplifies the brightness enough to get the cones working in the eye as well as the rods! I was in quite a dark area too so I now realise that you have to take UK posts about folk 'watching' the aurora in their street this year with a bit of a pinch of salt... it does make for great photography though!

This is an amazing film, really peaceful to watch. What do you film with? The shot of Jodrell Bank is incredible, great detail there. I was up there 2 weekends ago and camped a couple of nights, didn’t see the northern lights unfortunately 😀 cheers!
@CottonBud25 күн бұрын
Thank you that's very kind! This particular vid was done with a Sony A7Cii mirrorless camera, and 4 lenses for different situations (eg a little wide angle one for the Lud's Church scenes, and a big zoom jobber for the far off shots like Jodrell). I bit the bullet and splashed out on my first proper camera kit nearly a year ago - still paying for it 😬. Glad you got a couple of nights up there, it is grand intit?

Thank you sir, most kind to say! ‘The algorithm’ just doesn’t seem to like me sadly 😂. The pack is an Osprey Kestrel 68l. My winter pack if I’m doing a big hill walk. To be honest, it’s a bit overkill, I could have got away with the 58l, but it’s super comfy and nice to have a bit of wiggle room for potential luxuries. I also have the 38l version (in black) for the warmer months.
@joebadger19 күн бұрын
@@CottonBudI suspect your films are too infrequent and irregular for the algorithm. It prefers the channels that pump out a video same time same day every week, regardless of the quality. I however will remain a fan of your high quality output, even if it is slightly rarified 😉

The Helikon Tex Swagman Roll and Poncho is a fantastic piece of kit. Good to see it being put to another use. Plus the Roll is lightweight, but suprisingly good as a three season sleeping bag when used with a liner and thermals.
@CottonBudАй бұрын
I love it as a poncho and it gets a lot of use at home too as a quick deploy blanket on the couch when I’m in The Dog House 😅. I’ve used it as a sleeping bag but find it a bit small personally, as I’m a bit chunky… but as an extra ‘quilt’ on top of a bag which would otherwise be a bit cold it’s invaluable. Thanks for commenting! 👍

nice to see your update on this cool Bergen. For the little issue which you mentioned on 09:50, let try using bungee cord and connect two sliplocks (those plastic pieces connect the waist strap), then attach the knee-pad and you will have a lumbar-support feature. I think this small mod will make your carry experience better. Have a nice day!!

I've had the swagman roll out in -4°C back in Spring this year at the Lakes in the UK. Lined with an additional two season sleeping bag though, plus wearing thermals and all the other cold hacks, the roll did great as an outer and between that and the light sleeping bag as a liner still came in at less weight than the four season bag. Ground sleeping in the Bobcat 1 as well, not off ground in a hammock.
