I'm a lifelong punk but Sugar Baby Love would be a Desert Island Disc for me. Sublime pop music that equals anything ever recorded for me. Still sounds great and brilliantly played produced and recorded.

I don't know how many records paul da vinci sold but with that voice he should have been a multi million selling artist, since sugar baby love in 1974 right up to today in 2024 there are not many singers who can hit the noted that Paul hit and made it look so easy,I loved the rubettes records and still do

Sugar Baby Love, 50 years old in March. what a song. Sparks luckily got to do TOTPs a couple of months later after they couldnt do it in the March and Rubbets at No 51 got that gig. Happy days were 1974 for me

I've loved this since the first time I heard it back in the eighties. It freaked me out until I realised it's Pontius Pilate dressed as Alexei Sayle.

I would love the person who 'borrowed' my cassette copy of Cooger & Dark's 'Balls To Picasso' about fifteen years ago to return it...this was the first track on side B.

I was such pleasant child till rock and roll, [rock and roll], took away my peace of my and my selfcontrol, [selfcontrol], soon I was so sure that I was God's great gift to a generation I was sorely bound to be a star. I bought myself a fender and a super twin, [super twin], toughened up my vocal chords whit Gordon gin, [Gordon gin], played around for months and never made the news. Soon I had the rock and roll survival blues. I drove around from gig to gig in a rusty van, [rusty van], dreaming of a limousine and a livery man, [livery man], I simply couldn't understand why I was still the local standby when I was heaven made to be a star. The years went by and still I'm on the same old scene, [same old scene], never getting the publicity teen machine, [teen machine], now I knew what they meant about playing your dues. 'cos I had the rock and roll survival blues. They years went by the bands went by and I played on, [I played on], I could not understand where I was going wrong, [going wrong], so I split from the music city, went too school in a northern backroom just sat down and learned myself the blues. Then I made a record and now here I am, [here I am], I don't know how it happened but who gives a damn, [gives a damn], I only know I love you now you got the news, I ain't no rock and roll revival, [I ain't no rock and roll revival], I got the rock and roll survival. Blues.

Nice to hear Tony talking about his bandmates. I laughed what he said about what Alan when they got into first class on the train. I would have loved to have been there and heard him say it. I loved the Rubettes but like every other young girl I loved Alan ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂

verry good but verry different sad he had so manny problems with the rubettes i like alan williams a lot he was is the frontman of the band but he is fighting with al the old members. of the group. i realy have no idea who has right. but a solo career why not but it was nice to see them together for a short reunion. alan john tony mick Pete i think after so manny years that wood have been nice. i think that will never happen but i realy must say i like alan williams the most of the group his charisma looks voice the way he is nice with people at concerts only as a performer. but as a human beiing i realy dont no. Tony has a verry good voice i have the feeling he deserve more credits as he gets. but oh boy alan was is the leadsinger frontman of the group. i think. he wants to handle everything. i believe i understand that. i see saw video's with his new members he is in his seventies but he performs verry well. with the others. that is what i like about the rubettes alan williams. but i feel sorry for the old menbers they deserve credits to.

i always had a crush on alan williams his looks etc.he seems verry nice in intervieuws but t think tony is verry nice and perhaps to good for the group. but it is sad that they not stayed together. they good have played everything together country the glamrock. if they stayed together they good have made music from the glamrock periode the 50ties everything perhaps some country. ftom everything a little bit .i think people liked that verry much. for me the real rubettes john alan tony and mick. i grew up with the music. nice and verry good in live.

i like alan williams the most about his looks charming etc. but he tells not verry much. nothing about personal lifes etc. private i think. alan williams seems verry nice in intervieuws. but what do i know he is doiing well with his band the rubettes feat alan williams it wood be so nice if they stayed together alan john tony mick etc. t have the feeling thony deserves more than he get. but perhaps i am wrong.

Wonderfully performed by Tony Thorpe, the guitar and piano sequences are excellent. But this song in the "Sign Of The Times" album was credited to Richardson-Williams as composers.
