Harbor Freight aluminum bar clamps! Excellent clamps !
@theNextProject2 күн бұрын
Ekbanjo, thanks for watchin! Yep, I've got a few of the HB clamps of various sorts. Didn't have any of the 36" alum/box bar clamp however. If I recall, they were more expensive than the threaded rod I ended up using. All good choices, and nice to have a work around when a real clamp isn't available. I do have a 24" HB alum/box clamp (too small for this project), it is a pretty good clamp. The 36" version was on my radar, but I went cheap. I've also repurposed most of the threaded rod used for clamping at this point, so my clamp expense has been recouped in other ways. I will take another look at bar clamps soon, another project on the horizon. Hope all is well, be safe and take care!

Great Video. I purchased one yesterday opened it up, set it on my workbench. I didn't notice any issues because it is heavy so i was careful lifting it! Then i came in and found this video. Went back out to my shop and shook the tool around and sure enough it rattled. I did not want to return it because when i was in the store there was a returned box next to it so i figured if i exchange it i'll just end up with the same issue. Besides what was more of a hassle reboxing or repair. I decided to repair knowing that i had your review for the knowledge i needed to do this. Let me tell you this was a very challenging task to take on. My biggest problem was getting the cord insert back into the casing. Anyway i did it and now it works fine.. Thanks for posting this so i could do this. i might have never known there was an issue with this tool..Buy the way I paid $129 for the tool. Date 1/09/25

Thanks for watching and glad to hear the video helped. That is a GREAT price you paid, but I guess you have to pay yourself for the QC repair work. I hope you will enjoy the sander, I've been using mine a bunch, and there were a couple little things that may need attention, it seems to be pretty solid once fixed. If you hear a high pitch buzz/rattle when using it. Put your hand on the cross-bolt for the table angle adjuster. Press on it a bit, if the buzz/rattle goes away, you may need to pull the bolt, put a gentle. bend in the tube, put the bolt back in and try again. I had this issue initially, made my eye twitch. A simple work-around/fix. Hope you enjoy your sander!

hey would it be possible to put a top binding on this kit ??
@theNextProject3 күн бұрын
Arjun, thanks for watching! The kit does have a tight rounded edge, maybe +/- 1/8" radius. So, you could do a multi-ply binding with a routed channel to match the binding width. For example, black/white/black, or w/b/w binding build, say the outer binding is 0.060", middle is 0.040" and the inner is 0.020"...that might be close. Need to verify the actual radius on the body, do a little math, find the right binding and router bit/bearing combination. You can do it! Good luck with your project!

Otto, thanks for watching (more)! This was a follow-up test to a group of diamond files from a couple months back. I too have the MN S-file, and was initially expecting it to be "the one". But, as you say, it leaves a wide crown. While I really like the idea and design that went into it, I don't reach for the s-file typically. The search goes on. Just finished staining, finishing and assembling a Harley Benton PRS style kit, i did not have the same issues you had but the body did come with some deep gouges and scratches that were a pain to sand out (some were just too deep). Basically you get what you pay for with these kits and to be fair it does sound pretty good (pleasantly surprised by the pick-ups) and has a unique tone unlike any of my other guitars.
@theNextProject10 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, and glad to hear you didn't experience the issue that this kit had. Each kit is a "surprise", some may be nearly perfect, others not so good. Sounds like you have one that is pretty good overall, aside the gouges you had to work through. I've like the HB pickups too, they can be manipulated a bit, caps and resistors in the circuit.... fun stuff. Enjoy your guitar, be safe and take care!

All killer, no filler! Clear and concise explanations and no pulp. Thank you for putting in all the work on this project and putting out this video. My favourite bass neck happens to be a neck-through build. Am I safe in assuming that if I wanted to replicate this, the easiest route would be to build a longer box to fit the entire length of the bass?
@theNextProject14 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! A neck through bass, cool project! I've had a few questions about making a fixture for this type of project. While I haven't built a fixture big enough to shape that neck, I think it could be possible. I'd have to put pencil to paper to determine fixture size, cam shape projection...and hopefully find other good ideas along the way. So yes, a larger fixture would probably do the trick! Keep me posted if you do build such a fixture, as it will be interesting to learn of any issues or special processes needed. Be safe and take care!

You sure have a bigger oven than what we normally have in Sweden. I may fit an Ukulele in the oven I have. Glad that you kept the wormhole in the neck, it may be a gateway to the future (or backwards) 😁 Do you have any tips how to fill the holes in my Stratocaster body I have, I going to install a hardtail bridge and need to fill the holes for the original tremolo bridge. Also thinking of filling the pickup pockets and route new holes as I am going to mount the pickups in a different position than standard Stratocaster, but may it be easier just to route out everything so I can mount them in any position I think of.
@theNextProject15 күн бұрын
Ola, good to hear from you, thanks for watching and happy holidays! That oven is pretty typical here, I guess. The process worked pretty good, I had no idea how it would go, so I did get lucky. Screw holes can be plugged with wooden toothpicks, bamboo skewer, or any wooden dowel of about the right size. As for plugging pickup holes and re-routing, that will depend a bit on tools at hand. As you mentioned, it may be best to rout everything away and rout new hole pickup cavities where you want them. If you are going to plug an old trem cavity, you could do it in 2 processes, front rout and plug, then a back rout and plug, or vice versa. Will be interesting to hear more about your project. Hope all is well, take care my friend! Sorry, that's not much help.

What router bit do you need to make 12" radius ?
@theNextProject21 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! When using this routing fixture, I typically use a flat bottom waste board router bit. It is a 2-cutter, 1/4" shank bit, typically used for leveling CNC waste boards, but works well for this purpose too. I've also used a 1/2" diameter down cut spiral but. They are more expensive, harder to find, but does a good job too. Here's a video with design drawings showing how to make this fixture: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3Smn4KXeLibpMU Be safe and take care!

Great video. Picked up one of these the other day, and sure enough, exact same loose bolt/washer and when turned on, the sander didn’t even oscillate. So I returned it for another… the new one seems to have no loose parts but the table isn’t perfectly flat and it has some vibration at the top of the stroke when using the belt. Not a terrible amount but enough to be annoying. I can’t tell from your video if this is normal or not. Do you notice any vibration? (It’s enough to blur the text on the sticker above the belt.)
@theNextProject22 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear you're having new tool troubles. I really thought they had fixed to QC issues by now. Ridgid need to take a step back and crack down on their assembly and QC people. As for the vibration, I hadn't noticed the belt vibrating at the top of the stroke. Just turned it on to check, and it seems okay. Kinda sound like it may not be seating all the way down in the pocket, but I really don't know. I hate to hear of these issues. Worst case, take it back . So sorry to hear the issue. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

Wonder if you could use jet dry as the wetting agent instead of dish soap. It won't create suds then...
@theNextProject22 күн бұрын
That's a possibility, I'd have to give it a try. I had originally used "ox gail" which is an additive for watercolor paints. It is a wetting agent, but my ratio must have been way off. Also, I think it made the mixture feel a little greasy, like it had lubricant in it. More experiment in my future. Take care my friend!
