i wish there was more long-term options for foreigners that don't necessarily want to get a job there. The digital nomad visa is not very long and doesn't allow for renewal :(

Good idea. Run for your life. NYC is a disaster. 1. Too many illegal aliens 2. Too many thugs 3. Too much BS construction work 4. Overpopulated 5. Filthy streets 6. Dangerous subway platforms and trains 7. Unnecessary MTA delay in service 8. Rent is out of control 9. Rude and nasty people everywhere 10. Too much competition Best of luck to you. Run for your life.

This problem is becoming worse. The zone where my university is located has so much gentrification that I have to spend triple than usual just to EAT. Some of my classmates have been kicked from their apartments so the landlord could rent to foreigners who would pay even more. A family wanted to shut down a very famous small restaurant because they didn't like the music they played And I could give more examples, but I don't want this to be too long. Dont get me wrong, I love sharing my culture with everyone, but some foreigners need to understand that we don't work for them, and that the culture won't change to match theirs.

well buddy i wish you all the luck in the world. I'm a born and bred NYer so i have different circumstances and perspective. but definitely moving anywhere on this earth based on what you see on tv and movies is not the way to go. i watch those shows and films and say to myself this is a lie! a lot of transplants move here for those kinds of reasons and don't experience the NY that i did growing up. is it rough? hell yeah. it's not for everybody or for the faint of heart. most NYers are struggling, all that glitz and glam on tv is....well it's tv, a f*ckin stupid Hollywood fantasy. some people live that life and they seem like they're taking over the whole city. By city i also mean Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. but they're not the heart of NYC. sorry it didn't work out for you, i hope you thrive wherever you land.

I think your NYC experience was totally skewed by your job. I know NYC has reputation for being a super hard working city, however unless you are working in a hedge fund or investment banking making 200-300k then working around the clock is insane. My experience with New York has been much different. I came to the US as an international student and after college got a 6 figure job in NYC. I live in Jersey City and my portion of rent is 700 a month with 25 minute commute time to Manhattan. I save 50 percent of my after tax salary and I am very grateful for the opportunity considering that I came from a considerably poorer country.

Can you do a Japan visa run, like a Thailand visa run, etc? Meaning, go to say, Korea, for one day or one week, then come back to Japan and get a fresh 3 months? I am an American citizen.

Seems like a bit of a grey area. It would probably be frowned upon because you are circumventing the immigration system, but you may be able to get away with it depending on what the immigration officer decides. But, you run the risk of getting yourself into trouble with the immigration authority, which may bar you from being able to enter Japan again if you get caught. I would suggest going to Japan with a longer visa to avoid that risk, you can read about all the options in my Ebook: shop.beacons.ai/ryanflynn/c1835395-d89f-4ba4-ab72-001eda98570f

I moved here a few years ago. I knew no one and did not have a job. It is expensive. I live in Manahattan in the Broadway district. I love it here and did not think I would. This November will be three years. I tried to move here when I was about 22 and did not last one year. It was super hard young and broke. Coming back older and with money made it very easy and not having a car is great. I was always into nice cars. I could care less now. I can walk to everything. Hells kitchen two blocks away. I love it.

Only reason to be "in" NYC is for the amazing speed of change. You can "quickly" ascend within a few years at your career. This is probably because of the constant changes, fast pace, and competition. The "issue " with NYC is the $$$RENT$$$. OMG it will literally cut you in half or more. City landlords have a lock on rents and it's beyond brutal. Very hard to focus on becoming better while stressing over being evicted.

So based on this video. If you aren't owning & operating a business, and work for yourself, you can only stay there 6 months, and 1 year if you have capital. But you also cant get long-term rentals? Man, I love the idea of living there, but they really make it difficult. Not sure why they aren't looking to do things similar to Thailand/Philippines. I mean, they are mostly saying "Hey, if you don't actively bolster the economy, you only can get a visit that feels like something, but not enough to live there. " Lol, if you want to use the general visa/digital nomad visa, you need to be able to travel out of the country too. Jeez. Not sure why they don't want passive contribution to the economy as well. If I moved there, and had the funds to support myself and my family, I'd be 'actively' contributing daily. Welp, hopefully they will change things and I can go there one day without needing to change my career, or constantly go in and out of the country. Thanks for the info. Seems Japan is a dream that needs to wait until it's easier to stay long-term.

Hmm, I’m not sure I understand what you mean by not owning and operating a business but working for yourself, wouldn’t that be a sole proprietorship?
@KoteOkarun
@KoteOkarun Ай бұрын
@@DarViajar what i mean is, a cafe for example or some other business model, to get long-term stay path options. If you work for yourself, you can be a sole proprietorship that's true. but at least for my career, it isn't helpful. Being an independent trader, I don't have as many avenues as other people do. Maybe consulting, though frankly, id rather not work 2 jobs, one of which im only doing to stay in the country xD, imagine that drain no thanks. Point being, they are very meticulous and strict and its clear they dont really want people over there as much as they claim. I am not even interested in owning a business at this point in my life, nor do I want to rely on something I am not even slightly passionate about in order to keep safe my family's lives that are built in a different country.
@DarViajar
@DarViajar Ай бұрын
@@KoteOkarun that's true. It seems Japan is really only interested in immigrants who can bring innovation or wealth to the country. But it sounds like for your specific situation, you would be able to open a Godo Kaisha (Japanese LLC) for your trading business and move there on a Start Up visa (1 year) or a Business Manager visa (up to 5 years, with the ability to be renewed). I go into all the specifics of every visa in my Japan visa Ebook, which you can check out here: shop.beacons.ai/ryanflynn/c1835395-d89f-4ba4-ab72-001eda98570f

I am deported Mexican that was raised in the USA and experienced a hate crime during Trumps presidency where instead of getting justice I was deported. I have been living in Mexico City since then and although Gringos do not see gentrification as a problem it is a very big problem for the locals who are niether American citizens nor are making dollars and living in pesos while in Mexico. For the average Mexican life is expensive in Mexic and with all these foreigners coming to Mexico it makes life much more difficult for us. The worst part about gentrification is that Gringos and Canadians don't want us in their countries and create extremely racist anti-immigrant laws to force us out. And the very same people saying things like build that wall or deport them all are the very same people coming down here because it is cheap for them. Then they try to compare Mexican immigration to American gentrification which is not the same due to draconian anti-immigrant laws that make it near to impossible for Mexicans to go to the USA. Those are some major hypocritical racist double standards that colonizers have placed for the Mexican people.
