Why are you lubing the gasket?
@Spin23293 жыл бұрын
It's a paper gasket with a wax coating, the oil helps prolong the seal and extends the hours of operation. We average about 120-150 hours between rebuilds when the gaskets are oiled. We get 60-90 when they gaskets are not oiled. Its up to you, but that's 15 years of experience in PPG talking.

I have seen a lot of videos regarding how to properly lay the wing on the ground, but since it has to move through the airflow of the propeller as it comes up and inflates, thus I think the role of luck for the wing to come up evenly is still significant. I think the learning here is to keep the trike/quad moving forward.

Great and informative video! One thing I don't agree with however is the gash in the air-box mount. An air leak in the air-box mount (or anywhere before the carburetor) would not cause an engine to run lean. An air leak anywhere after the carburetor WILL cause the engine to run leaner however. Still would want to get that replaced though... that would be a great place for unfiltered air to enter.
@Spin23294 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, however, when people over torque those two allen screws they ofter crack the spacer right in front of the reeds, which is where the excess air gets into the engine and burns it up. I can't always explain everything on the fly when making these videos. I need someone to actually film for me to do a true step by step rebuild. Cheers, Brian

Hey man. Great videos. I appreciate all the good info. I have a question, maybe someone here can answer. I have a small oil leak at the top of my crankcase housing between the reed valves and where the redrive mounts...the seam in the middle where the two halves of the crankcase meet. is there a gasket for that, or do I have to make one? I can't find that gasket on various sites that sell Vittorazi parts.
@Spin23295 жыл бұрын
I've had that happened too, you can first snug up the crank bolts. Depending on how many hours are on the motor you might want to split the crank and use a form a gasket. Replace everything if you split the crank. Bearing, gaskets...etc.

What caused him to rock back and forth on take off? Rotor from the trees?
@Spin23295 жыл бұрын
A few things caused the oscillation, 1- was when he took off, he pulled hard on the left brake. In his head he was turning with the torque of the motor, which you should always do, but he added to much input. 2-Yes rotor from those trees, the winds were NNW switching to W that day and he had a wind shift change at take off. To fix the oscillation in this situation, stay at full power because its take off, and put your hand up so no brake pressure and evenly add brake to smooth out the oscillation.

Excellent tidbits of knowledge here. I am saving up for training and equipment and plan on getting new or lightly used first owner equipment. In talking to some locals there was a shared idea that these motors are only good for 150 hours and that rebuilding is often not worth the cost and effort. After watching this video it seems rebuilding is totally worth it, if done by someone who knows what they're doing and uses OEM parts.
@paublusamericanus2925 жыл бұрын
Brian does not say what to do, if your head, or cylinder end are not flat surfaces. He mentions laying on a smooth piece of glass. yes. If you then find deviations, at all, lay a piece of crocus cloth on the smooth glass face, (as with rolloverriderpgr)and work the head over the surface of the crocus cloth till perfectly flat. Head and cylinder end. Thus brand new after smoothing. This will even work if mistreated previously, by improper torque of previous repair. I would then use Cerokote on both the head and piston to keep temps down by over 100 degrees C and almost prevent piston damage from lean conditions to a large extent. Loose headbolts would not be saved.

Hey Brian. I just got a used 185 plus and the pull stater doesn’t actuate fully. I took the pull starter a part and didn’t see any thing broken. When I try to wind it just skips after 2 or 3 rotations. Do you know of a fix?
