I like to take a bandana and put a rock in it and tie it to my 'bear rope' instead of throwning the rock (or stick) I take the rope and swing the rock around (kind of like a lariat) and sling it up.. if that make sense Also, on another channel.. I saw how someone took a cardboard egg cart and filled each pocket with the cotton and wax....... then tore them apart and put the 12 starters in a plastic bag

what site was it that y'all ended up on the first night? you looked like you were aiming for 10 or 11 or 12, one of those maybe?

I've done the south kaibab trail, down to O'Neil's Butte and back, just after sunrise. I plan to do the North Kaibab Trail next year, just down to the tunnel and back...and I plan on using poles. btw, the previous trip I just took my time, drank plenty of Powerade, stopped when I got winded, and had no problem with the 3000 foot elevation change

I've done four backpacking trips below the Rim now. The fifth is coming up soon. It's funny how all hikers habitually speak of mileage first, and only later add, "...and it's about XXXX vertical feet." I think we consistently underestimate the literal impact of the vertical component of hikes like the Grand Canyon. The perverse part of GC hikes is the combination of joint stress going down first with the muscular demands on those tender joints when you climb back out. Perhaps some smart exercise physiologist can come up with a convenient conversion of vertical feet into horizontal mileage that would make the challenge more clear. It's just so hard to prepare for it. But it's TOTALLY worth it.

Did a trip in Temagami; started at Mowatt Landing. Also did a fun trip on the Dumoine River in QC which required us to be float planed to the headwaters. And did 2 trips to Quetico Prov Park, though it requires reservations. Great wildlife and excellent bass fishing. La Vérendrye in QC has lots of trips possible with some huge lakes. My wife and I are both in our 70’s so you have many yrs of paddling ahead of you. When we were younger and still working, our vacation was usually a 10 day, self supported wilderness canoe trip, very often in Canada. Our boat was a Mad River Explorer, a 16 ft Royalex that was also set up for whitewater, but weighed over 70 lbs. A great durable boat, but a bear on long portages, the longest of which was 2 miles in Algonquin. In that we had 4 dry bags per trip, double portaging was always necessary. In that the Mad River Is no longer manageable for us 70 yr olds, we just ordered a Swift Keewaydin 16’ that weighs in at 38 lbs and are looking forward to more canoe trips. I guess what this is leading to is to say canoeing is a life sport that you can enjoy into your senior yrs, so keep doing it and don’t stop! Thanks again for your fine video of your Little Tupper/Lila trip; it’s made me excited about getting our new boat out on the water!

Nothing to be ashamed of, tipping is how we learn. I usually found it helpful to put a large rock in the middle when travelling empty. It's also a good idea to take a small backpack of emergency items like matches, a tarp, food and candles, etc. We ended up staying under the canoe in Temagami after getting lost after dark. Good lesson. Happy paddleing.

Good video, did that Sept. Of '22, curious as to where that campsite was at 31:00. Was that to the right of the first bridge at tri forks? I didn't do a whole lot of exploring that direction.

Headed there tonight!!! I love Little Tupper. We do a biannual trip because it’s so much work.

My brother and I hiked to the tunnel and back 2 weeks ago and it was right at the edge of my limitations. A ranger we encountered told us going down is easy. Going up is MANDATORY.

I Hiked it Twice 2 years Ago. I filtered and boiled the water both times. I'm ok so far. I didn't know that about the water situation in WNF.

My wife and I just did this trail last week. Mostly in part due to this video. I took the week off work so we could do whatever we wanted without feeling rushed at all. We did 2 overnights. We got there the afternoon of memorial day because we knew it would be less crowded. We hiked in about a mile and took a campsite a little past the fishing trail for the first night. Day 2, we took our sweet time so we could just stop and admire all nature had to offer us! We also camped in the 3 forks section. Got there early and had a wonderful evening simply relaxing by the creek and taking everything in. We had the while place to ourselves. It was so peaceful! I slept like a rock (which, I never do). Even took a little extra sleep time in the morning because we actually debated staying one more night either there or a little farther up the trail. We decided we would go on up to the overlook and maybe even camp near it since we had plenty of water. After enjoying the view, we decided we will be coming back again soon to explore more. More meaning the south loop along with the north loop. This time, we wanted to go see the middle loop since I've only seen one video showing it. It was gorgeous! Some definite rock crawling which was a ton of fun! And the beauty was incredible as we thought what this sectioned looked like years ago. We could picture native Americans living in some of the cave type places in those rocks. All in all, it was a very memorable adventure for us. It's a beautiful trail that we highly recommend for anyone. We are by no means fit or in shape, and we had no problems with this trail. The way the scenery changes so many times made the trail seem so exciting! Never a boring section. Thanks for this video! It really was a deciding factor in our trip! You 2 remind us of us in many ways. Great video!
