Cold Camping: Below freezing winter backpacking in Zaleski State Forest

We set out for a scenic hike and a cold weather overnight camp on the Selinde Roosenburg Memorial Backpack Trail. Cold weather and a warm fire felt like a proper way to honor the memory of Selinde, who loved the outdoors and dedicated her career to ensuring others could enjoy it as well.

It was so different and new, we loved it. We are ready for our next one here soon, getting that big itch to get outdoors! Also, 1000% agree about Stroganoff, my absolute favorite since childhood. -Travis

@@theamazingoutdoors I don't know what your general interests are.. or what your personalities are like... but one thing is clear, you research what you are going to do.. and you know how each other are.. like fixing Travis' favorite meal for the cold weather. keep up the fun

One of the things people miss out on by putting the hiking shoes away in September is walking through a forst where you can see so much more.. The should of rustling leaves is fun too... I have a sprained knee right now because on a slope I stepped on leaves with mud under them.. it wasn't right conditions for microspikes (do you know what they are/have them?) You should consider a lens cover for your camera. Another camera thing -- you know those silica packets that come with things.. I like to keep some with my camera.. That way it absorbs some of the moisture. Where I work bought a bunch of smart boards and I took about 50-60 of them (they are bigger). I sealed up what I don't use for the future... great vid

@@theamazingoutdoors I am much better through Physical Therapy (btw, you will be old someday and understand ;- ) I am wondering/(worried) about Nikki and her extremities in the cold.. .but most situations (hiking in cold water) do you know when you are possibly suffering? Like if you had frostbite in your toes, would you feel it coming??
