It is a Beautiful place. I would start of setting a budget and then see what you can get, don't be shy to secondhand gear, you can get a lot more for you money. MPB online and Castle Cameras have some great stock. Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon and Canon have great kit, find the one that suits your budget with changeable lenses. The main thing is getting out there.

Fantastic work as ever, Noel! Must have a proper catch up at some point! Two questions, what did you mean B rolls and what are you using for your filming camera?
@noelcoatesphoto Жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, Thanks for the feedback. B roll is footage for filling gaps\breakng the video up from solid talking, this can be walking about, short clips of scenes ie horses walking about, trees blowing in the wind etc. I try to think about putting the viewer where I am. The camera is the sony vlog camera zv-1 on a carbon light weight tripod, I use a pair of synro mics otherwise the one in camera is ok if you don't turn your back on the camera or don't intend on being too far from the camera. Hope that helps.

Nice video! How does having a lens hood change the images you get? Is there a particular time you'd really need it? Thanks!
@benscrumhalf Жыл бұрын
Also I really liked the third picture, funnily i'd prefer some more grain to pickup the mist somewhat. Is it cheating if I just chuck all my photos into Lightroom and play around ?
@noelcoatesphoto Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. So, I use a lens hood to 1. Protect the glass from the elements (large drips going off the trees) 2. Prevent damaging the front elements if anything should happen, which leads to 3. Don't put a cheap and nasty UV glass over my expensive glass. Ultimately, each to their own, you do what feels right for you.
@noelcoatesphoto Жыл бұрын
@@benscrumhalf I don't think there's any such thing as cheating in photography, it's an art so long as it makes you happy you go right ahead. Although this is what all photographers probably do already.

where did you guys park the car for the duration of the trip? was there a secure parking area for this type of activity and if so did yous have to book parking in advance?
@noelcoatesphoto Жыл бұрын
Car was left in Fort William near the first lock, speak to lock keeper for information on parking and key to unlock the facilities, hot showers are very welcoming on bad weather days. They should also fill you in on any issues along the route and workarounds. For reasons that parking can get abused I don't want to broadcast publicly how it works.

Good video/photos! Great explanation of the process of how your visualize your shots. Audio is just a little muffled. There is also a work around to be able to transfer photos without printing. All in all good vid. Subscribed.
@noelcoatesphoto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, I hope I have fixed the audio problem with a new 3.5mm mic cable, I used software to remove a previous constant buzz noise, hence the muffled voice. I have also found a work around for transferring imaged but ideally Fuji need to sort in firmware. When you put a cartridge in keep the blanking plate that comes out, when you have exhausted the media eject the empty cartridge and then slide the blanking plate back in. Now, put cartridge back in camera the plate should eject and you can trick the camera into thinking that there is 10 new media in the camera, obviously nothing will come out but the camera when you print but it will ready the shots for transfer! Ready for Instagram in square format, great bit of kit.

Thanks Derek, yes, I'm aware of the hum. I think it's because of a mic wire from receiver to camera as the original was damaged and I used the nearest one that I could find. what camera would you recommend for a beginner wildlife photogropher? I've been looking to get in to the hobby as ive recently taken a liking to birdwatching. I wan to share the experience with my family but i havent really found any concrete recomendations of cameras
@noelcoatesphoto2 жыл бұрын
It's a hard one to answer, I would look at the second hand market get on Reddit or Facebook and find a wildlife photography group and ask the same question. I slowly moved over to it, if I had to start again I would go for a second-hand Nikon D500 with a 200-500mm f5.6 lens I would save for that setup, wildlife photography is not something you could easily take up overnight it takes time to be quick on the focus and shutter, find the sweet settings and above all patience for wildlife to walk in front of your lens, I don't believe staking wildlife really works, find a hide or build one and wait. I hope that helps, sorry if I have recommended an expensive setup, I have started cheap before and ended up learning the hard way that you will end up having to spend more money, go get the right kit and save your money in the long run.
