Thank you for your video. Do you have any suggestions for playing chords where you keep the thumb, third and fifth fingers down and the 4 finger has to remain up ? Thanks very much.
@Musiah Жыл бұрын
This is a different scenario as you are not using the 4th finger when playing a triad. Just try to keep the unused fingertips (e.g. 2nd and 4th) resting on the surface of the keys rather than having them lift up in the air unnecessarily. Hope this helps.

Thank you Musiah! So a question about positioning your body in reference to the range of your keyboard. Middle C is not necessarily the middle, from lowest to highest, counting the white keys. Do you position yourself roughly with middle C in line with the centre of your torso, or further right? Does it depend somewhat on the piece you are playing, if there are more phrases in the upper range keys?
@Musiah Жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, apologies for my delayed reply (due to the holidays). Yes, you can position yourself to suit the range of a piece. So as a general guide, alining yourself with middle C is fine, but it's also fine to sit further to the right (or left) if that is more comfortable. Apparently, Chopin used to sit in line with the F above middle C as his default position. Hope this helps :)

I hv a Yamaha piaggero np 12 and I’m not sure can it be connected to my iPad or pc, it does hv the usb input tho… Also, is it possible for me to use a normal mini connecter and then use a sandisk storage drive adapter for my iPad? i don’t wanna spend cash on a connecter 🙃
@Musiah2 жыл бұрын
I just googled your keyboard and it has USB to Host which is a port for USB output to a computer or iPad, so yes, it can be connected using a standard USB 2.0 cable. At the other end of the cable, you'll need an adapter / connecter to connect the cable to the iPad. This will vary depending on the model of iPad. I',m not sure about / familiar with the sandisk adapter you mentioned, but you won't break anything by trying it. Our video on how to connect a MIDI keyboard to iPad with cables covers the most common adapters for iPad kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYicl52ZlpWSaa8. Hope this helps.

None of the keys of my midi controller produce any sound anymore, but it does light up
@Musiah2 жыл бұрын
By definition, a MIDI controller never produces sound itself. It transmits MIDI data to a device (e.g. computer / iPad) which in turn produces sound as you play keys. While I cannot offer detailed support here, and I don't know the exact equipment you are using... a common cause of this is; if you are using a MIDI-to-USB cable, try swapping the two plugs at the back of your keyboard, i.e. move the plug that is in the MIDI Out port on your keyboard to the MIDI In port and vice versa. If you are using a different connection method such as USB 2.0 cable . Bluetooth MIDI adapter, then the issue is something else, in which case, it may be worth asking your keyboard manufacturer / supplier. Hope this helps.

@@Musiah I think the cable is broken, cause I plugged my keytar to my pc and it does make sound, but with the ipad it lights up but no sound comes out anymore, ipad accesories are so fragile

If you have a standard USB 2.0 cable (USB A to USB B)... this is a standard printer cable, so lots of people have them... you could just combine this with a USB C to USB A adapter like this one: www.amazon.com/Syntech-Adapter-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B07CVX3516. If you don't have a USB 2.0 cable, you could buy a USB C to B cable like this one: www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Printer-USB-C-Black/dp/B00VKSF39O?th=1. Hope this helps :)

Hey there, thanks so much for this lesson. It's really helpful as a beginner. Just a quick question, I was watching another teacher online who recommends passing the thumb as soon as your second finger hits the piano. For example, when playing in C, your thumb would play C, then as your second finger play D, your thumb tucks under at the same time in anticipation of playing F after your 3rd finger plays E. Does this make sense? It's a little hard for me to explain without being face to face with someone, but yeah, I noticed that in this video, you tuck your thumb after your third finger plays E, so slightly later than what the other guy was teaching. As a beginner, I found his recommendation a little awkward but I can maybe see how it could be helpful at fast tempos as your thumb would arrive to the note before your other fingers have played. Do you have any thoughts on this? I'm thinking about going with your method as it feels a little bit more flowy for me. Anyway, a long winded message, thanks heaps for your lesson. Looking forward to watching more of your videos :)
@Musiah2 жыл бұрын
Hi Milton, thanks for your query. Basically, there is no one right technique for all scenarios, and different approaches will suit different people. While the other teacher's suggestion is indeed valid and may help in some scenarios such as fast scale passages, my only hesitation in recommending it for general / habitual use is if you pass the thumb under as soon as the 2nd finger hits the key by default, you will potentially end up having your thumb tucked under your hand almost all the time (or at least for more time than it is not tucked under). At the end of the day, it's good to be aware of different approaches. I suggest letting discretion and personal preference for each song / scenario guide you.

Should we use to wrist control in crossing timing? As our thumb moved
@Musiah2 жыл бұрын
Yes, ideally, you should try to keep your wrist horizontal as you pass your thumb. A little bit of wrist movement is OK depending on what feels natural for you. Just try not to have large wrist movements unnecessarily when passing the thumb.

Hello, I have a midi keyboard connected to a windows 10 computer, how can I connect my ipad to my computer so that the ipad works with a midi keyboard or daw . What program to use for this connection?
@Musiah2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you wouldn't connect the iPad to your computer. You would connect the iPad to your MIDI keyboard (leave the computer out of the setup). A video on how to connect a MIDI keyboard to your iPad by cable can be viewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYicl52ZlpWSaa8. A video on how to connect a MIDI keyboard to your iPad by Bluetooth can be viewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqazpoBnj9Rrh5Y. While these videos cater to the needs of Musiah users, the principals they explain are universal. Hope this helps.
