I can't speak for everyone but I have the 12.9" and there are many times where it seems so small. It takes some getting used to, really believing that the canvas you are working on is 11x17 or 18x24, when the screen is so small, so if you are going to do schematic design sets on your iPad, go big, but if you're just doing charming client sketches and portability is an issue, the 11 will serve you well. It all comes down to how big are the ultimate drawings you want to produce going to be? Good luck with your endeavors, and please keep commenting on the video!

After watching the Apple event, it struck me how the rolling feature of the Apple Pencil Pro could be integrated into SketchUp for iPad. Imagine rolling the pencil to rotate an object, change the tiling direction, or shift the drawing from the XY plane to the YZ plane just by rolling it! Can't wait to try it out. :D

Hi there - I would like to find out how the Ipad air / pro models handle larger sketchup files. I want to buy something like ipad air / pro that will make me mobile for architectural & interior work but im afraid that sketchup on ios is not stable it isint going to allow my models from my pc to be worked on the ipad if im not around the pc. I do know the bigger 1 and 2tb models offer a extra 8gb of ram but from what i have seen it hardle even gets used in a head to head battle comparison to normal 8gig versions. Unfortuantely they didnt test sketchup on the 16gb ram version so im hoping that you perhaps have done something like that ( most homework i did the sketchup viewer has 100mb file size limit or it will keep crashing) It will really burst my bubble if i cant use this for what im hoping i can - your response will be utmost appreciated. Thanks for the great channel keep up the good work

Man, such a great question, and way above my pay grade. I honestly haven't gone as deep as this but I will forward your comment to Mike Tadros at Sketchup for iPad, and get back to you. He usually takes a while to answer such things but I'll try. Second suggestion would be to go to an Apple Store and maybe ask if you could try to open up one of your g=huge models on a new iPad Pro? Third idea would be to take a serious look at your model, evaluate exactly what it is you wish to accomplish, and consider using your iPad for a limited set of tasks, like refining the design in a coffee shop, etc. On first thought it would seem challenging to open and make progress on a huge model, especially if there was a lot of stuff in there that you didn't necessarily need during your mobile outings. In summary, SkiP (as I like to call it) is great at concept design, but I sure wouldn't want to use it for huge important models, especially when its so much easier and more stable to use desktop. Does that help? I'll go ahead and fwd your question still.Talk soon--J

I do not see an important way to use textures and plants for future project and that is saving designs of a plant for example a Baptisia on a separate canvas and import them as needed. it is important to build up collection of plants or hardscape things in this way to save time.

@@iPadForArchitecture sorry für the late reply. It is true that for concept sketching there are many softwares we can use (Ps, Procreate, Ai, Sketch up, Morpholio) but I decided to invest just in procreate and Morpholio because they are more affordable. Procreate is one time payment of 20 Morpholio year subscription is 20. Ai, Ps and SketchUp are also valuable but more expensive 🫰🏼💰. So of your content I will choose procreate course. @@NerdishNature Well said! It never ceases to amaze me the hybrid workflows that come up, too. Just used Procreate to "take apart" a plan sketch that a client did on some homeowner's house design app, and spent the day rearranging the little rectangles I made of each room. Pushed them around to get a couple of schemes, then went to Morpholio to do area studies, and finally to Sketchup for iPad for quick massing model. Could have done it all from a beach somewhere, too, I guess. Oh well, didn' think of that lol. Thanks for your comments and interest!

This doesn't work at all for me. When I try it my screen turns completely blue. And yes, the layer is selected.
@iPadForArchitectureАй бұрын
Hey Matthew. I’m away from my desk so Not sure what part of the video you’re referring to but a possible fix to look for: make sure you don’t just select the layer as in highlighting the layer, but that you tap on the layer once it’s highlighted then choose Select from the drop down menu. Once the contents are selected you’ll see the marching ants. Then you can tap in the layer rectangle again, and use the Fill command in the drop down menu to fill your selection. Or drag and drop the color you want to use inside the selection. It’s a common source of confusion that selecting the layer can mean either “highlighting” the layer itself or selecting the contents of the layer. Two different things and very annoying that it isn’t more clear. Does that help? Lemme know asap.

Hope that helps?

Bravo James!! This is the tutorial I was looking for! Funny thing is, I woke up thinking “what if I use the warp/distortion tool to inject the plan drawing into perspective and build the forms up from there?” And voila, you showed us how. I can’t thank you enough 🙌🙌🙌🙌 With regards to the “crude and rough sketching” in these types of drawings, I have always gotten the very best feedback and optimism about a project from clients when they are presented with this type of sketch. People’s worlds are made up of exactness, especially now with computer generated drawings, but when they see something like this that is more painterly and personal, it really sings to our imagination and yearning for the human touch on design. (That, and seeing their name stamped on a blueprint lol, makes it so incredibly personal) Happy Spring to you, I hope you get some time set aside to enjoy the scenery, we know how hard you work!

Good day James, I’m really hoping you could do a tutorial on transferring a plan drawing to a perspective rendering on either Morpholio or Procreate. There are plenty of beautiful tutorials on using the perspective drawing assist tools, but not a single tutorial online shows how to start with a plan, so that it is accurately drawn and scaled in the 3D perspective. I’ve been racking my brain, trying to translate the OG/dinosaur perspective rendering rules into this new game and I’m coming up short. Is this a trade secret lol?

Like 100 or more years ago, I started my short lived journey into architecture. I began taking a Draftsman course so I could then transition into Uni. But so many things happened, and I couldn't go through with it. However, that itch is still there and I think that's why I love your videos and channel so much. A question, if I may: I see that you normally add a layer, paint it white and lower it's visibility. What are the advantages of doing that vs playing with the transparency of the layer below? Again, thank you for sharing!
@iPadForArchitectureАй бұрын
Ahh most excellent question. The alternative you suggest is very possible but most of my projects have many many layers so it’s more practical and expeditious to keep a “layer of trace” near the top of your layer stack so a) you are just using one if possible and not using up lots of layers, and b) because it’s time consuming to constantly be reducing the opacity of individual layers below your most active one, and it gets very confusing to start seeing through multiple semi opaque layers as you move up in the layer stack. A single layer of trace when and where you need it solves that problem for multi layer documents.
@iPadForArchitectureАй бұрын
…and allows you to avoid adjusting the opacity of individual layer after layer. In the same way, I often counsel in the videos to use adjustments > hue saturation brightness as opposed to altering the transparency of a layer ( of color for example) because it’s so easy to forget that you’ve altered the opacity of a layer, and that in tune affects the true color of you subsequently need to sample a color on some layer below.

Pardon the suboptimal Siri dictation lol
@musicafteroldageАй бұрын
@@iPadForArchitecture hahaha Thanks! Makes perfect sense! I come from the old Photoshop days and lowering transparency is my default move. But, since it's an iPad, every menu is hidden. And it is a real hassle every time I want to see the layer below vs simply hiding the white layer. And yes! I've played with a layer then forgot I did, then I go nuts 'cuz I have no idea what happened LOL White layer it is! Thank you kind Sir !!
