Thought you made the best of some very challenging conditions. Mist by it's nature is ephemeral. There one minute and gone the next. Frustrating yes but you did get that shot of the gap through the trees which was nicely atmospheric. Your use of the 50mm in your recent videos has me reconsidering using my 50mm nikon more often. I usually use it for portraits and when I want shallow depth of field. Looks really sharp on your compositions. Admire your dedication sleeping in your car again. Brrrr! Too cold for me.
@JorisVanDeuneghem18 сағат бұрын
Yes mist is really nice and like you said frustrating 😂. Now that you mention it, I’m using my 50mm more recently. It’s a really great lens and sharp. I guess it’s because my tele lens is broken, the Tamron 70-300. I love using a tele. I really enjoy it sleeping in the car 😁 it’s a bit like camping, but worse 😂 (for now) I’m gonna make some adjustments to make it better. And with sleeping in the car, I can make more videos faster, because it’s not always easy with the “Normal” job to make videos.

As a bird photographer I also have to sleep in the car a lot. So I have several tricks by now: There is a sleeping bag by grützibag with a heating element powered by a powerbank called "the feet heater". You can pack a gas cooker and prepare a little hot water bottle wich helps a lot too. And the most important thing is isolation from the bottom. I don't know how you sleep in your car, but if you can do it, using a good sleeping pad that is made for cold weather is more imoortant than the sleeping bag itself. This forrest looks like the forrests at home do. So I felt quiet relaxed while waching this for breakfast (after a night in the car with freezing temperatures outside) Greetings from Germany.
@JorisVanDeuneghem5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I just ordered a small sleeping mattress, because now I was trying to sleep on the back seat and that’s also isolating, but I was curled up and wasn’t sleeping good. next time I can lie down stretched out. The forests in Belgium aren’t to different from Germany, and I was closet to the border from Germany 😊 thank you for watching DK. Do you also make videos photographing the birds?
@DKtracks5 күн бұрын
@@JorisVanDeuneghemIt makes a lot of difference for sure. If you sleep curled up keep in mind that the isolation on any sleeping bag is worst at the back. The manufacturer assumes you have the sleeping pad there. No videos yet. I am thinking about making a channel , but as a professional(I mostly do ads) I always have something that doesn't fit my standard of quality so I never come around to do it.
@JorisVanDeuneghem5 күн бұрын
@DKtracks yes my back was always cold. I guess next time will be better 😁 for KZbin you don’t need to make perfect videos. I don’t know anything about video editing, or I didn’t. Waiting for perfection is lost time. But it’s scary to start 😊
@JorisVanDeuneghem5 күн бұрын
@DKtracks what kind of adds do you make?
@DKtracks5 күн бұрын
@@JorisVanDeuneghem Sure it doesn't need to be perfect, I know. Unfortunately I have a very critical look on things like that due to my work. I am a trained (industrial) photographer. You can still learn that job in Germany and nowadays it includes a lot of video work too. I edited several TV ads and directed/ shot many as well, but socialmedia ads are getting a lot more attention in the past three years as well. I always have something that I don't like when it comes to my own work. A curse of working in this trait I guess😅

Congrats on the new telephoto and still having kidneys 😁 Damn, i was doing it wrong. Im either shooting at f2.8 or f22… 😂 kidding aside, I default at f8 because it’s the sharpest aperture on my lenses, but sticking to it all the time as if it’s a rule is just silly. You can use bokeh / shallow depth of field as you say, or you can increase it to get slower shutter speeds for motion blur when needed. f16 or higher for sun stars. So many techniques used outside of f8. Experiment! 😁 Oh and Merry Christmas dude. Happy new year
@JorisVanDeuneghem10 күн бұрын
Ow yes i forgot about the f16 for the sun stars. I only do that with my Tokina 11-16mm. I don’t have a new lens. It’s my Tamron that’s broken, but if encourage it with a tap or 5 maybe it will do something.

F8 seems to be a standard, like an unwritten rule, i think I used to take one at multiple exposures to choose which I like best on the computer. Nothing worse than finding out at home that you missed the focus point. p.s "hill up" should be: up hill

Well done, Joris. There was an old saying I recall from my film days, “when in doubt, f8 at one sixtieth.” I also think it was Weegee who said the secret to successful accident and crime scene photography was “f8 and be there.” 😅

It's all about where you want the focus of the photo to be. There are no rules. The conditions you are shooting in determine the best course of action. That is based on the light levels and the subject you are photographing. The F stop F8 mantra for landscape is a bit of an illusion. You can start at F8 and then experiment up and down the F stop scale. You might surprise yourself at which results in the best photograph.
@JorisVanDeuneghem14 күн бұрын
John what an explanation, you explain it better than me dude 👌 you are absolutely right. I wish my English is that good to explain it so clearly 😂 I also think the F8 is an illusion. I love when I can photograph a tree or so with a smalle aperture and make it stand out more.

Another good video. Glad the tele seems to be cooperating, at least a little bit. Its important to show the process when conditions are not ideal, as you have done here. When the light isnt behaving it forces you to “look smaller” to find interesting compositions. They dont always fall in your lap like the days when you have beautiful mountains, lakes, waterfalls, clouds and perfect lighting. Its a journey. Cheers!

Hi Joris, Love the video. Totally agree with you regarding pushing yourself to take those steps out of the door even when you would rather stay indoors/in bed, or do not believe there is anything out there to take pictures of. I believe too many are only looking for 'full frame' images/landscapes, and totally ignore the multitude of small items/compositions that surround them, and that will often result in fantastic shots. Keep up the great work. Many thanks.
