I climbed this in 1966. There were no trails. We attacked the mountain from the west side and behind. I recall it was an easy and straight forward climb taking that route.

My first time was in 1977, we hiked up the East side, hiked down into the valley, camped over nite in the valley. Stayed in an old cabin that was there. Hiked the entire valley and up to the summit the next day. Absolutely no trail in the valley. I remember little baby frogs everywhere😁

Greetings again from Scotland. Good call with turning around. A younger version of myself would have done the same, even if I had ice axe and crampons. That kind of snow isn’t so fun on steep rock. Sadly the current version of myself is battling the dreaded lurgy, all while a high pressure system has settled over Scotland for the next few days.

A lovely, gentle video of the Widowmaker. I visited Kananaskis Country back in the 90's with the British Army Adventure Training Unit which was based in Trails End Ranch. Our team was out-posted to Sundance Lodges in tents. Day 1 was Pigeon Mountain. Day 2 was Rundle Bike trek to Banff from Canmore Nordic Centre, returning via the Goat Creek Trail. Day 3 was Heart Mountain Horseshoe Day 4 was bouldering/top rope abseiling. Day 5 was done by a Rafting Company... Jump into the Widowmaker falls (not like it was on your video), rafting down to Stoney Reservation for pick-up. We did this for seven rotations, all the while living in pioneer tents, filling the changeover days with instructor treks like Mount Baldy, Mount Lady Macdonald, Pigeon Mountain to Nakiska, Centennial Ridge walk from it's Kananaskis car park to Dead Man's Flats. The most amazing seven weeks for myself and the other instructors. I'm due to go back now I've retired. Many thanks for your videos ☘️

During the summer, go to Drumheller, drive North on Dinosaur Trail loop (West side of Red Deer river), cross the Red Deer river on the Bleriot ferry (a treat in itself but closed for winter) then explore Horse Thief Canyon. Then continue on back to Drumheller, you'll pass the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Or start at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and go North. If you are able, I highly recommend hiking down into the badlands, but watch out for rattle snakes (rare to see). Do NOT go into the badlands if it has rained or will rain. There could be flash floods and when the soil is wet turns into a very slippery sticky clay making it very difficult to climb back out. Bring plenty of water because in the summer, the temperature can be between 30C to 40C
