Loved hearing your answers! Especially thoughtful about holiday traditions. I'm a notoriously awful gift giver because I put so much pressure on myself, but I also love the feeling of spreading joy and showing others how you care for them. Have you made a video about Hitchcock films? I noticed you're a fan of many of his films, so maybe you could rank what you've seen or discuss your favourite/favourites. If so, I'm not sure if you've seen Rebecca or Rope yet? Rebecca unlocked something within me and completely shifted how I view cinema and what I'm drawn to. I wish every feeling and element of that film were something tangible, so that I could give it a hug. Another video idea, if you haven't already made something similar: something along the lines of the most effective horror films as vehicles for messages/life lessons/philosophies. Obviously I made that a little wordy haha, but some sort of topic/direction like that. Side note: I'm a Stardew Valley addict. I have 30 saves on my Switch and I'd say I binge-play it for a month, take a month or two off, then go back. I speed through the community centre, and then I get a high off of collecting all the walnuts on the island. My hyperfixations are usually short lived, but Stardew Valley is something I come back to over and over and over again. I've never completed it hahah, because my comfort is in the same cycle of accomplishing quests. And marrying Abigail.

The holidays are such a weird time, but I always find a lot of comfort in the gift giving. It just makes everything else fade away for a bit. I love Hitchcock and I don't think I've reviewed a single one of his movies on here shockingly. I havent seen Rebecca or Rope! Two that have been on my list forever. With how you described Rebecca I want to watch it immediately. I love that idea about horror. That's why the genre speaks to me so much. I'll definitely do something along those lines. I've put so many damn hours into that game and I just never get tired of it. I was so thrilled with the recent update. I currently have Krobos living on my farm haha. It really relieves a lot of anxiety playing it.

Wow, I guess I'm the odd man out here. I didn't think it was amazing but I didn't think it was bad by any means. Up until the end you question who is the real psycho the kid or the mom.... behavior wise it could be either...I think there's some things that we never get answers to that they screwed up on and I personally would have gone another way with the film like the pictures in his closet, I would have liked to find out that those wet actually the pictures his mother drew as a child and he found them and hung them up...I also think it would have been even more psychological if the son was also documenting things from his side claiming his mom was the psycho, cuz let's be honest her behavior is pretty sketch... the gloves, she's always filming( this one got to me making me think she was the psycho cuz i had a roommate that was a complete nut case, like she believed there wer animals living in the walls but only in her room and there wer bugs that wer getting under her skin, and she would constantly push your buttons then run and start recording on her phone but like try and hide it then come back like it was the first time so it looked like if you yelled at her or said anything that you wer the aggressive one, I ended up having to record on my lap top 24/7 when I was home because she called the cops like 7 times and every time I'd have to show them what really happened, and I would ask the cops please mental health arrest her do something and they would always say if we did they would just consider it drug related and release her in 8 hours that it wouldn't do me any good anything they could take her in for she'd b right back and then sit would get worse, so I understand that kind of crazy" but all on all I liked watching it even if it wasn't my favorite movie

Im glad you got more out of it! I was really hooked in the beginning and I thought I would like it. But the performances to me became less and less realistic which made it hard for any of it to feel real. It was a really cool concept though!

The 2 movies I brought to your attention a few days ago are also A24: The Humans God’s Creatures The cinematography, pacing, sound, & subtle horror are some of my favorite things about A24 movies. Yet The Humans is far more warm & friendly, while God’s Creatures feels distant & cold. The cast of The Humans is very enjoyable & relatable. I found myself sympathizing with each one of them. The ending really makes you want to appreciate & love your family. I did enjoy Never Goin’ Back. I thought it should have felt more unbelievable than it was based on previous high school comedies & the scenarios they found themselves in, but for some reason they made it feel plausible? Reminded me of Hot Summer Nights in that way. Both feel like throwbacks, but with higher quality, better cinematography, more relatable characters. I think it’s because the relationships feel more authentic despite the over the top scenarios.

You lack insight into the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish world-you call it a “church”-and this disqualifies much of your judgment. Don’t judge their lifestyle. The film is poignant and true to the essence of this corner of Judaism.
@natesfilmreviews8 күн бұрын
I don't think I ever judged their lifestyle. I also think you can judge the movie having zero understanding of the religion and how it operates. Majority of the audience isn't necessarily educated specifically on the religion. I think it was well shot and has great performances, but it still felt like it was missing something at its core to make it truly impactful.

I've just watched the movie in an art cinema in Germany. I agree with you about the husband. I didn't like him. He looked like a young man who was only thinking about himself. I would have wanted to see more of her life. After reading about her life in Wikipedia, I thought that they could have made a mini-series, showing us the different struggles and achievements in her life.

I was so glad we felt the same way about the film. I'm excited to watch it with other people and get their thoughts. So thought-provoking and completely unlike anything I thought it would be. The main speeches about acceptance and faith, Fiennes' and then Diehz's when in that auditorium (and the one at the end), really struck something within me. They were beautiful and honest, and touched on so many of things I wished I heard from the church, at a younger age. I was genuinely laughing at the end of the film in disbelief, because you could NOT have convinced me this film would one day exist when I was a child. I was also surrounded by many elderly people who likely expected a very different film, and so their reaction made it hard not to laugh... I left the theatre calling my mother, ranting about how much I loved it and begging her to watch it. If that's not the sign of a good film, I don't know what is.
@natesfilmreviews7 күн бұрын
I completely agree. I think its a movie I will just grow to appreciate more over time. The dialogue was brilliant and it does such an amazing job deconstructing the church, but is also very symbolic of other groups in power as well. I totally agree on the ending. My mind was blown that they actually took it there and I hope that a lot of people are moved by it.

This movie requires a review? Whats next, cartoon episodes?
@natesfilmreviews8 күн бұрын
I mean it's a piece of art? For starters this is a part of a series where I'm reviewing every A24 film. Also cartoons are a form of art so you could 100 percent review one. Lastly why did you watch? If you value the movie so little you could just move on with your life and not engage, but you chose to! So clearly you care in some capacity.

@@natesfilmreviews its just that I am snowed in, very high, and very bored. Just surfing youtube without a goal. I would think, as a youtuber, you'd have realized by now that's what most negative commenters are doing. All this really meant was that I can't recall the last time any review of a female buddy film HAS EVER hit my feed. So when you receive a comment like this, most of the time the tastes of the commenter DID NOT bring them here, which is the exact reason they are commenting. We are actually yelling at KZbin's algorithim as much as the posters. Its just random nothingness. I don't really care about the movie, don't know either actress, and didn't watch your video. Had it been in a genre I like, I'd have prob watched it.
@50Nobody508 күн бұрын
@@natesfilmreviews Its more that we don't see film the same way. I went to your page, you review lots of stuff I would never watch. I love Evil Dead 2, so I watched and liked that review. That said, I don't agree with much of anything you say about the film, outside of how its made. To me, its nothing but comedy. There is a part where you suggest "only Bruce could have played....." I really don't agree with any of those ideas on movies. Plenty of actors could do that, he isn't doing anything that special there. I love him, but its not kick ass acting he's doing.

Every movie requires a review even if it’s a stereotypical teen comedy (especially if it’s a stereotypical teen comedy). Based on my previous experiences this type of movie should have been a 3/10. That’s what I was expecting. Like “Dude where’s my car?” type trash. But thanks to the reviews like this one I actually gave Never Goin Back a chance & it’s one of my favorite teen movies now. I give it a 7/10 because it does what these over the top teen movies should have been doing 30 years ago. They actually treated this like a high quality film with real chemistry & character building & beautiful cinematography. I would definitely watch a part 2. I was actually hoping to see what they were going to be doing in Galveston but that’s where it ended.

Phenomenal film. I first heard about it online a couple of months ago and found it streaming. I was hooked from the beginning. It's a slow burn for sure, but everything is set up as the film progresses and repeat viewings reveal the hints as to what it going on. Good and fair review although I like the switch to the serial killer thing but of course I wouldn't complain if the supernatural thing would come back in the next part. A few questions you could potentially choose from: 1. If you were to make a film at this point in your life, with all resources necessary: what genre? any themes or topic you'd explore? Any decade/time period it would be set it? 2. What is your most rewatched film and what makes it enjoyable to rewatch? 3. Is there any story you would want adapted as a film, if it was done well (such as: a true story, video game, book, short film, etc.) 4. It's snowing here in Ontario so winter/holidays are on my mind haha; are there any winter traditions you look forward to? (My family makes a brown sugar caramel/toffee that hardens over snow and makes me giddy every year).
