I remember my dad telling me he listened to this song when my mother was out all night cheating on him and leaving him home with us while we slept. It's all I can think of when I hear this and how this song helped him through that bad time.

This song is so beautiful yet foreboding. How close he was to his whole life being a lie. How close the world came to being deprived of him because of societal expectations. I weep for the people who feel that can't be true to themselves. Life is short, live it in a way that makes you happy and gives you joy.

escaped what would have been a really bad marriage. The way you and bernie Expressed this life experience Through music and words is Amazing. I was 8 years old When this song came out and I loved it and listened to it a billion Times but never really knew the meaning of the song until later in life. It was like rediscovering it all over again.

I know this amazing tune is from Captain Fantastic, but just wanted to say that as a young teen, I reproduced the cover of The Yellow Brick Road album on a wall in my bedroom. Oil paints. It looked damn close to the original, I must say, and I was very proud of it. And then, in my late teens, my mother bought a new house, and thinking that prospective buyers for the old house wouldn't appreciate my artwork, she had me paint over the mural. I still go by that old house, some 45 years later, and have to resist the urge to knock on the door to tell the occupants about the beautiful mural lying hidden behind a layer of latex on a wall /home/ian/DATA/documents/samba info/fstab samba entries.txt /home/ian/DATA/documents/samba info/.smbcredentials one of their upstairs bedrooms.

You know I think back to all these songs that lead and mislead- nothing against Elton John or anyone but it is a behavior that I do not agree with The first time I heard this song was in the 80's - came from a very dysfunctional family and I could relate to the songs by Elton John, Simply Red and George Michael- the lyrics always hit home- touched a part of me that I did not even know existed. Nonetheless- the words in the song also misleads- "sleeping with myself tonight"- well what is wrong with sleeping with yourself ? You are not married! So why should you not be "sleeping with yourself" Think about this for a moment- I will be the first to admit- I was a screwed up teen- again came from a totally dysfunctional family and then you look to the world to see what is "normal" and they mislead you too! If you are a screwed up teen you look up to the singers thinking well they know something- I guess "should I not be sleeping by myself" then I must go out and look for someone to sleep with! You know think what all these songs feed an immature mind. The same as the movies- I looked at the new releases the other day- I must say I am glad to see that there are healthy movies out there but there are also numerous movies that keep an unstable mind unstable! You have to realize, a lot of these kids come from total dysfunction and these movie makers to get rich themselves will sell you anything! There is a 3 month wait period right now to see a psychiatrist! What does that tell you? 3 months before a person can get "help" for their mental instability- unless of course they get admitted. But yet we continue to feed the unstable with craziness. Elton I love the music but the words are misleading! And you know what I have learned since then too- a lot of time the women/ men that are so demanding are those that come from total dysfunction themselves- no one taught them God, many were used and abused and they became demanding to get their own needs met, otherwise they got overlooked!!! Not as simple as we think- dysfunction breeds dysfunction! We need God/ Jesus - we need to care about each other!

As a 59 year old man who grew up in a very homophobic era; I realized by listening to Elton John’s poetry that gay people felt much the same as the rest of us. It was through great artists like him that I was able to let go of my prejudices. I just hope he knows how great his influence has been.
