To convince myself that it's a good idea to bring too many lenses, I tell myself that it will toughen me up for the next times 😅 I know it's not "smart", it makes the climbs harder, but I love some lenses too much. My main one is the big Sigma 40mm f/1.4, and in the backpack the small Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 (mostly used around ~23mm), the new Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro for mushrooms, flowers, insects but also for landscapes and animals and an old Takumar 200mm f/4 which takes up little space. Most of the photos are taken with the 40 and the 90 but I love having a few occasions to use the others a bit too. With almost 3 liters of water and a few accessories and a tripod, that's a lot! But if I know that some will not be useful in a specific place, I do not bring them 🫣

Beware the time lines. For photographers: I guarantee you can't shoot a sunset at Santa Elena Canyon (@1:25) then drive to Soto Overlook (35+ minutes) and shoot a sunset in the same day (@2:03). Both are good places for sunsets, great if you have just the right amount of clouds. On day two, Mallory finishes the day with a hike to Balance Rock, BUT the photo is from sunrise (A5:00). B Rock is a sunrise pic, at sunset it's in the shadow of the mountain its on, and the lighting is dull/boring.

Thanks for the presentation/advice, Mallory. I mostly shoot timelapse-panos, and really never considered star trails, but since its New Years, and the Milky Way is not happening for a few months, you may have saved my life, LOL! : ) In my work I have done many presentations and lectures, and I want to say, you do an excellent job. Quite professional, and helpful!

There is no mention of opening the blue lock that keeps the cartridge in place. Had to go to Canon for that small, but important detail. Pop the blue switch UP before removing old cartridge, down to lock new new cartridge.

What a fantastic and simple video. Thank you! Question: can you prevent this by using the printer regularly (which I was not doing)?
@mallorydavisphotography20 күн бұрын
Yes! The key is to print often to avoid the maintenance cycles!

Great tips. Especially taking your bike in for a check over. I have had great luck so far with the tubeless set up. However, I have not had much luck with getting those mondo tires on and off. It takes a special kind of person and tools to do it. Good luck with those tires and your ride. Century rides are a great accomplishment, especially solo.

Thank you so much, Mallory and greetings from Italy! the two photos of the Milky Way that I can see in the video are simply phenomenal! Please I would like to ask you two things: 1) are the photos taken from a single shot of 25 sec? 2) I noticed that you inserted the advertisement for a polarizing filter. Is it also useful in astrophotography? Thank you so much!!!

You got this, I did my first organized century in my late 50's a year after recovering from cancer. The only thing I would say is you should have probably done one on your own just to get it out of your head. That same year I did three organized century's and the next year I did the STP which is Seattle to Portland, 202. miles over two days. We are constantly amazed at what we can do if we put our minds to it. Good luck! and reminder it's just a hill get over it

I would very much like to get into astro photography in the UK and I came across your video. Very well paced, clear, not tech heavy and well spoken. Subscribed. I’m hoping to get a Lumix S5ii in the January sales (I know it’s a hybrid camera but that suits me) then get out into the darkness. Do you have any videos for simpletons on editing? I don’t want to spend hours editing and I like that the LUMIX allows in camera LUTS as for just social media and my own prints, I don’t require hours of complex editing. That would be great! Many thanks 🙂

Great video! Thanks! I have had my Pro-1000 for about 4 months now and the only thing driving me crazy is the ink. When should you put a new cartridge in? When the exclamation mark pops up? It seems like there is a lot of life left when this comes on. If you are in the middle of a print and a cartridge runs out of ink, what happens? I for the life of me I cannot find an answer to this. I kinda got the feeling from one video that I watched that the exclamation turns to a red X and the printer stops so you can change the cartridge. Does anyone know if that is the case? I have a BIG pano that I want to print but am afraid to go with it but don't want to just change cartridges if I don't need to. Like I said... this is the only thing that is causing me heartburn!! 😁😁😁

In yr 4x6 example how did you calculate the cost of ink per sheet? Ie vol of ink used per sheet? hence cost per sheet. If volume of ink is based on area sheet. This assumes equal colour usage which isn’t so. If the 4x6 print has a height of ink 0.75mm I can get your number. I assume it is a number provided by cannon? Can you clarify the 8 cents per sheet per print. Richard from Australia. Ditto larger sheet calc. Enjoyed your simple and clear explanation. Cheers Richard in Australia
