I think between 2005 and 2015, men in general were relatively well dressed since skinny jeans and flannel shirts were the mainstream between 2005 and 2015, but after 2015 most men went from wearing skinny jeans and flannel shirts to just wearing t shirts and loose fitting shorts or loose fitting jeans.

You don't even necessarily have to wear a jacket and dress shoes in order to feel like your casual outfit makes you stand out like a sore thumb. Even wearing a stylish casual outfit that doesn't include a jacket and dress shoes can make you feel like you stand out like a sore thumb.

I'm working on dressing more elegantly lately. I wore a really nice suit that I got tailored to fit my body type for a friend's wedding. Everyone was complimenting my suit. Before the ceremony started, the photographer was going around taking pictures. He took a group photo of my friends and I, and after he took it, he asked me if he can take some photos of just me cause he said he really liked my outfit. It felt really nice that people appreciate the work that was put into my fashion choice. It's crazy how the pendulum seems to be swinging. Whereas the casual look was seen as rebellious and freedom, dressing elegantly seems to be the new rebellious and freedom.

If you know clothing and values you can dress like a billionaire by very careful buying used clothing on ebay over a long period of time at a cost that is actually cheaper than shopping at Macy's or JCPenny, however if you regularly wear the really best clothing (Brioni, Kiton, Attolini, etc) you inevitably stand out in a socially undesirable manner like a sunflower in a potato field.

Hey, Im 24, I run my own company thats now worth ~3,000,000 and my uniform is shorts and tshirt or shorts and a hoodie if its cold. Its not that im afraid to dress well, that shit just takes wayyyy too much time for (to me) basically 0 ROI
@AllureSecretary
@AllureSecretary 2 күн бұрын
Congratulations on your success, building a company at 24 is no small feat. But dressing well isn’t about ROI in the traditional sense; it’s about presence, discipline, and the unspoken impact of how you carry yourself. Time is valuable, but so is the impression you leave. If shorts and a hoodie work for you, great. But dismissing style as ‘basically 0 ROI’ misses the point, elegance isn’t just about clothes; it’s about commanding respect before you even speak. And in business, perception often precedes opportunity.

Which is best looking for formal shirts? Merino Wool or Very High Quality Cotton?
@AllureSecretary
@AllureSecretary 4 күн бұрын
Both merino wool and high-quality cotton have their place in a gentleman’s wardrobe, but they serve different purposes. For formal shirts, very high-quality cotton is typically the superior choice. It offers a crisp, structured look, a smooth feel against the skin, and excellent breathability, essential for dress shirts worn under a suit or tie.

I spent 35 years getting up every weekday morning and dressing in bespoke shirts, suits and shoes. My work environment, which could, on occasion, meet international directors and aristocracy (i am from a working class background, if such a thing still exists) I reached a point where dress-down would still involve jacket, trousers, and smart shoes. Down from that may be tailored jeans and jacket. Anything more casual is restricted to the home. Though the suits rarely see the light of day since I retired, I still maintain a standard. I believe this is important. I would never feel comfortable in public in sweatpants and trainers. All that said, I do believe that it is an individual thing. Nevertheless, certain appearances can solicit a certain reaction and initial judgement.

We definitely need to bring back the elegant, stylish suits and accessories. They look amazing. I've never seen a person who doesn't immediately look better in a well tailored suit. And if more people dress this way...I won't feel as self conscious when I dress this way, myself lol Obviously some people won't like wearing one, and you won't want to wear one all the time, probably. But it would be great to see more people in general embracing the vintage fashion that looks so great in photos. What I disagree with is that a rise in fluid fashion or feminism, which I'm assuming is what that brief generic clip of an angry looking woman and the words "certain groups" alludes to, has anything to do with it. There will always be loud extremists on every cause, but they don't represent the whole. Feminism is supposed to be about closing the gap, because there definitely still is one. It's not about bashing men or a certain style. Anyone who says a man dressing this way is automatically a misogynist is making extreme assumptions they shouldn't be making. With that said, with rhetoric circling around the internet by "alpha males", who also promote dressing well and being a "quality" male, capitalizing off guys' insecurities to get more money and views, we do need to be very careful about recognizing what messages we're taking in each day. You won't be the classy, elegant person you hope to be wearing this type of thing if you aren't a class act yourself. And having class involves being of sound mind and judgement, not being willfully ignorant of the problems certain groups in our society face every day; it's about having integrity, being honorable and just, not about being a bigot or misogynist. No one cares (in a negative way) about whether you choose to dress elegantly or in a vintage style. In fact, most people think it's cool. It's something we don't get to see as often. And those styles are often considered classy and timeless. What some groups do have a problem with is treating other people as if it's that time period, or trying so hard to be some extreme version of masculinity with your actions that you just turn into some pretentious wad of prejudice and sexist views. That's what no one wants to see. There's a saying: vintage style, not vintage values. You can be masculine, and stylish and elegant in all those ways that make vinatge fashion seem classy, and not uphold some of the values and behaviors we know to be pretry messed up, today, because we've learned since then. Seriously. Go out dressed to the nines, holding a whiskey glass in hand chatting with people at the bar, or having coffee with someone. I'd join in, if we knew each other. All it takes is someone else with you to make you feel more at ease. Find your crowd, the ones who also want to bring this sense of style and class back into the world.

Elegance and style go far beyond just wearing the clothes, they reflect character, confidence, and conviction. I wholeheartedly agree that a well-tailored suit immediately elevates a man, and yes, the world could benefit from embracing this timeless refinement more often. That said, my focus is on reviving the principles that these styles embody: strength, discipline, and respect, not merely nostalgia. These values transcend the superficial and, when embraced fully, enhance both masculinity and class in the modern world. As for the influence of certain cultural movements, I don’t claim they’re entirely responsible for the decline in classic style, but it’s undeniable that the push to blur distinctions has contributed to a broader rejection of what these styles represent: clarity, structure, and identity. Bringing back masculine style isn’t about imposing outdated ideologies; it’s about reclaiming the elements of dignity and grace that these traditions brought forward. Style is a personal choice, and no one should feel self-conscious about choosing excellence over mediocrity. So, go ahead, step out in your finest. If done with integrity, your style won’t just look timeless; it will feel timeless.

I agree with the fast fashion thing. But if you define your masculinity by what you wear I truly feel sorry for you. I'm a guy in my 50's and I'm a man, no matter if I wear a suit, a pink tutu, my blue collar pants and work garments or a red ball dress. Clothes dont define my person and identity and I am man in a pink tutu because my character makes the man, not the clothes. Once you get this you can make a video about the world which you somehow don't really understand. Buy the way, my wife is an engineer, she wears suits and shirts. Where is the problem, guess what Scotisch men weer skirts called kilts. And my dear, I can express my masculinity even in my pijamas, traditional masculinity, good God I have never heard so much bullshit in my whole 50 years!!!
@AllureSecretary
@AllureSecretary 9 күн бұрын
Your indignation is fascinating, but it seems you've misunderstood the point. Masculinity, as I discussed, isn't solely about what you wear, it's about amplifying qualities that inspire respect, strength, and confidence. Clothes, like tools, are extensions of those traits. Can a pink tutu express masculinity? LOL. You speak of individuality, yet dismiss the collective wisdom behind traditional elegance. Perhaps it’s not the message you reject, but the discomfort of realizing it might not align with your worldview.

@AllureSecretary Masculinity and femininity are concepts and definitions of our culture and society and thus they are subject to change like every concept and every morality. I, on the other hand, am an individual who does not conform to the definitions or concepts of society. My self-worth and self-perception are not tied to society's expectations, but to my life experiences. Clothes are something for me to keep me warm, nothing more and nothing less. Those who look for their self-worth and expressiveness in clothing fit into our society but are very impoverished in character, sorry.

Society is too traumatized to dress well. It attracts beggars, thieves, feminists and plenty of abuse from lesbians. What if you dress well and get laid by a feminist ?! Could lose everything. What if a jealous cop wants to take you down for looking good? Underage girl coming at you? Goldiggers😢. Jealous siblings, parents, family... Everyone forcing a man into taking responsibility for everything where he has no contracts... No thanks. Endless feminists out to take down the patriarchy... My mere presence seems to provoke people. I do like looking good but becoming a target is exhausting and dangerous. Also, the nearest city is dangerous. When I lived in a nicer area I did dress better where others dressed better

Dress in your finest everyday. I've worn a suit all my life. I'm an old Englishman now and people stop me everyday and comment on my style. Suit, hat and nice coat. I wore a suit at school, in my work and everyday. I won't go to the local shop without a shirt and tie. It's habit, it's style and it's me. Dress with style, bugger everyone else! Final tip, don't wear those tights, short suits. Someone said, "A suit should be like a contract, it should always cover your arse" Ha!

Aquascutum was indeed one of the first to develop the trench coat in the 1850s, originally for British officers. Meanwhile, Burberry revolutionized outerwear by inventing gabardine fabric in 1879, which became integral to their version of the trench coat. While both brands contributed significantly, Burberry popularized the trench coat widely during World War I. Aquascutum has undergone significant changes since its founding in 1851. It has changed ownership multiple times and, in 2012, was acquired by a Chinese company, YGM Trading. It’s fascinating how both companies shaped this iconic piece of menswear!

Go have a look at the illustrations of J. C. Leyendecker, leading graphic artist of the early 20th century. Very sharp. J.C., as almost every one knew at the time, was gay and he sure knew how to paint a sexy man. But keep in mind that tailored suits were preceded by not just centuries but thousands of years of long robes, fluid fabrics, jewelry, etc. The severe tailored suit was brought into fashion by Beau Brummell in the early 1800s. So it is only traditional in a limited cultural context. And you can hardly prove that the men who wore velvet and lace in the 17th and 18th centuries were lacking masculinity. This emphasis on “traditional” tailoring also says nothing about other cultures like Persia and China who wore long robes in certain contexts. It should be recalled that trousers came into wide use as an accessory for riding a horse. Who likes sweaty hair clinging to your bare legs after. It’s only a personal opinion but for sheer masculinity I prefer a kilt and fly plaid over that 3 piece suit, ye ken, laddie. Tailored suits are not truly timeless. But, basically, you are telling the younger generation to dress like my father and he did always look sharp. Loved the overcoats.
@AllureSecretary
@AllureSecretary 19 күн бұрын
Your comment reflects an appreciation for historical and cultural variety in fashion, and I respect that. However, while long robes, lace, and velvet were certainly markers of their time, the tailored suit transcends eras because it is designed to emphasize and enhance the natural masculine form. The broad shoulders, tapered waist, and sharp lines inherent to a suit communicate strength, discipline, and refinement. Qualities universally admired across cultures and generations. Beau Brummell’s influence may have formalized the suit, but its timelessness lies in its ability to adapt while remaining rooted in those masculine ideals. Unlike the fleeting trends of lace or robes, a well-tailored suit endures because it speaks to the very essence of what it means to be both strong and elegant. As for kilts and fly plaids, I agree they have a unique rugged charm, but they serve a different purpose. The suit, in contrast, is a language of timeless sophistication. It’s not about clinging to the past, it’s about carrying forward an enduring standard of masculine style that inspires respect and admiration, no matter the era.

Why does dressing well for men mean wearing suits, sports jackets, oxford shoes etc? Why do people have this perception? I think it might be because the companies that produce suits for men or tailors make these kind of videos. Because their profits probably aren't as good as previous decades. So, they're trying to manipulate people's perceptions saying that you don't look man enough or respectable, if you don't wear this type clothing, act certain way, do certain things etc... I think people who focus on others clothing that much are somewhat primitive. Thinking pattern that wearing suits is dressing well belongs to conservative people, who also say women must wear certain clothing, and shouldn't wear certain type of clothes. They use classic shaming language and manipulation in order to get what they want. People should've get pass what others wear, we should be smarter than having these primitive thoughts and perceptions. What should matter is what the other person is capable of or their character. Look beyond the physical world. Otherwise, human civilization keep treating better, people just because they look "good", "beautiful", "sexy", not because they are intelligent, capable, moral, decent etc. For example, humans should be smarter than the male birds who were evolved to look fancy and colorful compared to female birds, in order to reproduce. Don't give in to primitive perceptions. Don't let "attractiveness bias" shape our civilization.
