Cumbamba was given the job by Cuchilla who was a direct employee of Escobar. Cumbamba was the henchman of Griseldas husband. And later on him and Bravo were looking for Griselda to kill her. Max was originally given the job and when Rafico came around with Cumbamba, Cumbamba asked "why didn't they ask me to do it? I am the one who does these things" and he wanted the job. Max replied "its not up to me ask Rafa or the Ochoas about it" Cumbamba was at least deadlier than Rivi.
