I remember seeing this deleted scene on vimeo years ago and I wondered then and still wonder now, why on earth was this scene taken out? This crucial scene ties the black tuna story together and explains the downfall. Makes you wonder why a documentary would omit such important information. Without this segment the entire black tuna segment fell apart and became confused legalese in the final cut of the movie. All the legal vagueness, doublespeak and omissions really watered down the crux of the black tuna segment and arguably the whole movie as a result. The final cut of the movie gives the impression that these guys were never caught with anything and it was all entrapment and speculation. This scene shows that was definitely not the case and also sums up the downfall of every major smuggler who was ever caught "they planned to stop but decided to keep going." is a really powerful quote. So is "thats when we knew we were in trouble." This should have been in the movie 1000% The black tuna segment and the entire square grouper movie would have been a lot better and more complete just by keeping these 5 minutes in the film. I have no idea why billy and his crew would have decided to cut this crucial segment out of the film when it explains so much that was left unexplained.
